Tigrai TV - On the looming constitutional crisis due to the failure of the Abiy government's failure to hold an election - May 2020

Unfortunately, it seems, Ethiopia will be without a legal federal government if Abiy has his way. TPLF would be gambling on its existence if it betrays the martyr's promise and joins the Abiy government plan to trash the constitution and enable him to block the Tigrai people's right to be governed by their own elected government.TPLF as a governing party in Tigrai should end the state of emergency at the earliest and prepare to hold the regional election before Sep 30. We pray Tigrai which has paid dearly, would not be left without a legal government no matter what!!

Tigray - which way forward?- Call for a Special Commission
Haile Yibrah 05-04-20 - Lately, the discussion on whether Tigray should separate from or remain within the Ethiopian state has been raging in the media by academics, social media activists, and concerned individuals. Recent articles in Aiga Forum indicate that people are being concerned by the issue. The question is not new, but the political dynamics in Ethiopia and the attitudes of other Ethiopians towards...

The Ethiopia-Eritrea border dividing families
Zeray and Zefer, who live in Ethiopia, are on their way to celebrate the baptism of their child. They are worried that many of their relatives from Eritrea will not make the foot journey across the border. A war which broke out in 1998 between Eritrea and Ethiopia resulted in the border being closed for 20 years.

My Input on the Ongoing Discourse-Whether Election should be Conducted as per the Prescription of the FDRE Constitution or Not?
Tsegai Berhane (PhD) May 3, 2020 - These days, putting the Covid19 pandemic at the center, it is a common practice to observe politicians, scholars, and activists arguing on whether the national and regional elections should be undertaken at the previously set timeframe by the Ethiopian Election Board which is now postponed indefinitely. Before I proceed to discuss the issue at hand, it would be proper to identify some very important constitutional provisions which could serve as founding pillars in my discussion. These constitutional pillars are:

The Ethiopian General Election, Constitutional Crisis and Legitimacy
Makonnen Tesfaye; May 2, 2020 - The writing was on the wall for some time now. The Covid-19 card is the joker in the pack. The illegitimate Government of Colonel Abiy Ahmed decision to extend the usurpation of state power by unconstitutional means is the culmination of the many and repeated violations of the Democratic Federal Constitution of the Country. The last and ultimate excuse of the Corona Virus Pandemic for not holding the scheduled General Election and the fabrication of a "constitutional crisis" must register...

DEAL WITH BOTH SIDES OF THE EQUATION TO FIND AN ALTERNATE SOLUTION-Part 2
G. Amare, May 3, 2020 - Since this will be my last piece on this topic, I would like to thank Girmay T. Giorgis for initiating, and sharing such a stimulating view and then, Assa Yohannes for fortifying the discussion with valuable feedback and later, many others got engaged to share their perspectives and heart-rending stories in a very...

Kneeling at the Altar of Isayas
Elias Dawit 04-30-20 -The Ethiopian Prime Minister's decision to close Hitsas, one of four, Eritrean refugee camps located in northern Tigray, raises fundamental questions about the means and motives of all parties concerned-Prime Minister Abiy, Eritrean President Isayas and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Hitsas houses over 26,000 Eritreans who have feed Africa's version of North Korea. Included in this number are over 1,600 Eritrean minors who have traded their childhood for a chance to escape the inevitable prison of indefinite national service. Hitsas, located in Tigray's Shire district, is beset by conditions experienced by all four of the camps...

ENF's Statement on Current Eritrean Political Situation
ENF welcomes a genuine change in Eritrea on conditions:- the Eritrean National Front is ready to welcome change in Eritrea. In what so ever form and content, the on going political turmoil in Eritrea should rest on a meaningful change.

The IMF on Thursday approved loans worth hundreds of millions of dollars for Mali and Ethiopia to fight the coronavirus pandemic. The Washington-based crisis lender has stepped up its global financing efforts in recent weeks to help countries weather the coronavirus crisis. The IMF board granted $411 million to Ethiopia on the Horn of Africa to help relieve the pandemic’s effects...

'Ethiopian'ness (ኢትዮዽያዊነት), as a weapon for what end?
Jerusalem Barnabas 04-30-20 - I read Aigaforum on a regular base but don't comment much. Lately, though I have noticed the outpouring articles and arguments on Tigray, 'separation versus unity' some fierce some mild. Most of the writings are thought-provoking and I decided to put something to that effect. I am not an expert on Tigray or Ethiopia's history neither...

On Psychopaths
Aesop - 04/29/2020 - We all wonder why is it others don't care about our plight. We all wonder why empathy is missing. The answer is this: psychopaths do not care about us! Psychopaths are worse when they combine multiple personality disorders like narcissism, emotional instability, and paranoia. In this case, they become what the former FBI profiler Joe Navarro called Dangerous Personalities. These are the so-called...

Jawar Mohammed on Tigray Election and Other Election Related Thoughts
Bekele Berhanu April 29, 2020 - Today I listened to OMN and Awrambatimes how Jawar interprets or sees the possible election in Tigray. It is worth considering his points, making sure and asking, at the same time what would be the consequences if Abiy refuses to abide by the rules of the game - an outcome that one could guess with certainty.

Commentary on "Tigray separation: is the agenda a monopoly of a single generation?"
Dawit Abay 04-28-20 - I have been a reader at aigaforum for years. In the past months, I have read articles by Yohannes Abera (Ph.D.) on various issues. They were often measured and constructive. This is not an 'answer' to the article but just a commentary by a reader on the article published on April 27, 20202 as "Tigray separation: is the agenda a monopoly of a single generation?"

Ethiopia: Forced evictions in Addis Ababa render jobless workers homeless amid COVID-19
Addis Ababa municipal authorities have demolished dozens of homes belonging to day labourers over the past three weeks, rendering at least 1,000 people homeless amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Amnesty International said today. Most of those whose homes have been destroyed recently lost their jobs due to the ongoing COVID-19

Where is the money collected by Tamagn and others in the name of the COVID-19? People are being uprooted by the Abiy government and Tamagn and the Gedu group are still silent or acting as "telalaki" still? I thought they regained their 'backbone' to stand tall against repression/authorities after the Jawar revolution? Zeru Hagos 04-29-20

Corona Virus epidemic in Ethiopia, the on-going non-pharmaceutical and other confinement methods applied to control the disease
W.Yilma 4/27/20 - As we know the newly emerged viral disease called Coronavirus (COVID-19) is widespread as a pandemic and become the number one public health problem worldwide. Ethiopia is one of the countries that has affected by this virus. As a result of this, Ethiopia is under an extended state of emergency declared by the Abiy government.

Tigray Separation: Is the agenda a monopoly of a single generation?
Yohannes Aberra, PhD April 27, 2020 - There is a raging debate going on whether or not Tigray should form an independent state of its own or remain as an integral part of Ethiopia. Some are completely on one side (separation and non-separation) and others (G. Amare) are advising balance. Every time I read or listen to the different views aired on the issue I am deeply worried about the...

Ethiopian forces occupy parts of Sudan border zone
The Chairman of Sudan's Sovereignty Council has revealed that Ethiopian forces and militias have seized a large part of his country's territory along the border. "There are old problems. Herders have lost their livestock and farmers have lost their lands. The armed forces had nothing to do but to protect them because the Ethiopians imposed their presence," explained Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan in an interview broadcast on Saturday on official Sudanese TV.

The Cost Benefit Analysis of Independence of Tigrai from Ethiopia
Gebre Selema April 27, 2020 - I am writing this as a rejoinder to Mr.G.Amare's article dated 26/04/2020 and to his previous article. I am not a man in the middle like Mr. G.Amare on the issue of independent Tigrai from Ethiopia. I have made up my mind about it already and I believe independent Tigrai is not an option, but a must because it is about survival, continuity, and the existence of the people of Tigrai...

Covid-19: Call for action in the face of a looming crisis in Eritrea
Petros Tesfagiorgis April 26, 2020-04-27 - The ruler of Eritrea, Isaias Afeworki, has refused the COVID-19 supplies donated by the Chinese billionaire Jack Ma and his Alibaba Group. The plane carrying the goods was not authorized to land in Eritrea and returned to where it came without delivering the intended goods. Because of this, the people of Eritrea will be paying a heavy price.

DEAL WITH BOTH SIDES OF THE EQUATION TO FIND AN ALTERNATE SOLUTION-PART1
G. Amare, April 26, 2020 - This piece is intended to provide some clarifications to Assa Yohannes. However, it is by no means a dialogue between me and the others who shared ideas regarding the topic, originated by Girmay T. Giorgis, Entitled, and 'Appeal to Counter Separation of Tigray.' First of all, many thanks to Assa Yohannes for providing constructive critiques and his thoughtful analysis of the subject matter...
