CATCH TAXI HAS STEPPED-IN TO HELP HEALTH WORKERS & OTHER STAKEHOLDERS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

Catch Taxi, which recently hit over 3000 marks of active drivers in Ethiopia, has stepped in to help health workers & important personals to fight the Covid19 pandemic. Catch Taxi, which is the fastest-growing hailing app in Ethiopia and enjoying over 5000 rides per day, launches a COVID-19 preparedness program. The program is aiming at empowering health workers, drivers & customers during this pandemic.

Ethiopia 12th March 2020: Catch Taxi flagged off over 1200 drivers, and the number has since increased by double digits. This is attributed to well-paid tariffs and bonus packages to drivers. Catch Taxi is positioning itself as an African company by empowering a community of drivers to self-employment with attractive income.

Catch Taxi has differentiated its taxi ride-hailing service through rigorous background checks, training & payment policies. Drivers are most importantly trained on customer service, hygiene & road safety.

Starting on 16th April, Catch Taxi will be giving free rides to health workers, security personnel, and volunteers who are out there helping in the fight of COVID-19. “We do not encourage the use of public transport during this time & since not everyone can afford a private car, we have resorted to offering free rides to workers on duty” Said, Mr. Nafie, the managing director of Catch Taxi.

To qualify for free rides, organizations, hospitals & other stakeholders will be required to apply or request in writing to the company via the official email address - ethiopia@catch.et.

The ride-hailing app will also give free masks to their customers & the general public as a prevention measure.

“We are also empowering our drivers to cope with the current financial challenges by giving a 30 Birr bonus per ride completed. We are building a community of drivers & not workers. Therefore, we do our best to support them in every way we can,” Nafie said.

We are also urging our customers to wear surgical masks or other approved masks while using public transport. This is in addition to regular washing of hands with soap or alcohol-based sanitizers & practicing social distancing.

In response to the measures announced by the government for the containment of the COVID-19, this program is aimed at equipping the main stakeholders with prevention measures, facilitation strategies, and urging customers to only travel when necessary by using Catch Taxi.
