Unity of Ethiopia in disorder, Chaos, never-ending Squabble, infighting has no meaning Gebre Selema 08-13-20 - Leave alone unity in uniformity, even unity in diversity is not always good. Reason, unity in diversity without ordered diversity management, transparent check and balance has no benefit due to the fact diversity is very difficult to manage and to administer conflicting interests. Ethiopia is a case in point which is in diversity denial ...
My Statement on Elections in Belarus Democracies are built on the simple concept that citizens have a right to elect their leaders and have a say in their country's future. ' The people of Belarus are demanding their voices be heard. After a presidential election marred by electoral fraud, citizens peacefully protesting to demand an accurate vote count are now being met with...My administration will never shy away from standing up for democratic principles and human rights
We can only hope Biden will keep his words when he becomes a president come next January! The people of Belarus are no different from the people of Ethiopia who are being killed daily for demanding to elect their leaders.
Mass arrests in Ethiopia raise spectre of repressive past ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Ethiopia has detained more than 9,000 people after deadly clashes last month, the state-run human rights commission told Reuters, raising fears that a government is returning to the iron-fisted tactics of past administrations.
OMN: An 'alien' star in Ethiopia's skewed media universe is 'cancelled' August 12, 2020by Girma Gutema - Oromia Media Network (OMN) is an independent media enterprise established in the U.S. six and a half years ago. Its stated mission is producing original and citizen-driven news and stories on Oromia and Ethiopia. The network is financed and operated by an extensive network of grassroots movements and the wider diaspora.
Dear Grima, sorry to see OMN blocked by the Abiy government. We also condemn the arrest of many Oromo politicians including Obbo Bekele and Jawar. The Oromo people deserve better. It is sad to see such a proud people undermined by one of their own. To be honest you should have known better not to associate with the color revolutionaries of the world that undermines any home growing democratic system. Too bad Jawar did not see this early on. It was obvious the Oromo issue was hijacked the minute Abiy took power brother.
I am what I am not - Qerro! Why Not? Yared Huluf 08-12-20 - Events in the country are moving fast to keep abreast and chew one’s own cud. The resent audio message and the time of its release suggest that people running the country want the hoi polloi seat on the edge of precipices begging for their lives to be saved. It is time to play brinkmanship and shine. But whoever is playing with fire will soon learn who it is playing with or against to his/her detriment. And whoever is pressure-cooking a plot will be in for a surprise.
AWLO TV With Muluwerq Kidanemariam, Tigrai Election Board Commissioner. (Must Watch!), Aug 11, 2020
Tigray-federal tit-for-tat threatens trouble Under the FDRE Constitution, the power to interpret the constitution is vested in the HoF which is assisted by the CCI. This power evidently pertains to constitutional issues that fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government. The HoF does not have any explicit or implicit power related to regional councils or matters regulated under regional constitutions. It is here that the major fault of the recommendation of the CCI endorsed by the HoF comes out.
A weird neither here nor there analysis! The author in no uncertain term told us the constitution was abridged by the HoF and CCI, yet, recommends the Tigrai government to uphold such violation. Weird. Ethiopian insight the Emporer is naked!! The proud people of Amhara have also a pride as much as the Oromos. They will also realize the evil plan of Abiy in due time! The two brotherly people will not fight!
We do not know who else to ask except the Tigrai government and TPLF. We beg them to stand with the national and nationalities in Ethiopia who are being slaughtered by the Abiy government. We implore the Tigrai government to demand the Federal forces to stop murdering innocent people. First, it was the Qimant, then the Sidama and the Oromo, today it is the Wolayita people that are being killed by the government of Abiy. Enough is enough! Aigaforum Aug 10, 2020.
To Preserve the Ethiopia We Love, Tigray Must Stay Strong AweseBrhan. Aug 9, 2020 - Three thousand-year history, own alphabet, Christianity since the 4th Century AD, the cradle of mankind, etc. Sound familiar? This is the history of Tigrayan Ethiopians. The proud people of Tigray don't do shilela or qererto, unless they had to - and by that, I mean unless they are ready to fight anyone who dared to attack their people. Once victory is achieved, they go back to their life.
Extreme poverty rises; a generation sees a future slip away Decades of progress in one of modern history's greatest achievements, the fight against extreme poverty, are in danger of slipping away because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The world could see its first increase in extreme poverty in 22 years after whittling it down to 10% of the population, further sharpening inequalities.
Just as expected Abiy and his god who wished him to be the 7th king of Ethiopia is taking the country down. Extreme poverty in Ethiopia is on the rise. Amhara elites this is your contribution to modern Ethiopia. The growing metropolis Addis EPRDF left you with is soon to become the shantytown it was when your ancestors were in power. Sad!
DW TV (Amharic) The Obstacles!, Aug 10, 2020
Team Lemma is finished.
Today Abiy purged Obbo Lemma, Obbo Milkessa, and W/ro Teyba from the 'Oromo prosperity party'. It is believed Abiy's next move is to remove all of them from any government post and start a legal process to incarcerate them. If you remember Mengistu Hailemariam eliminated one by one his comrades-in-crime within the Derge group. Similarly, Abiy is eliminating one by one "team Lemma" who brought him to power. What was Mengistu's final fate btw?
Meantime, even though the fate of Wolyita is pretty much determined to be like that of the Sidama, the Abiy group is killing and jailing Wolyaita leaders who have asked for regional autonomy. If you recall, the Sidama people were granted autonomy after they endured a lot of sacrifices. Abiy was forced to accept the autonomy of Sidama in the end. Sooner or later the Wolyita people will get their autonomy too! We support the Wolayita people!!
Hail Tigray Regional Council: A giant step towards pluralism in the ancient land Yohannes Aberra, PhD 8-9-20 - Countless good things have come to the rest of Ethiopia from the North in the past several centuries: Christianity, Islam, African alphabet, defense of territorial integrity, liberation from dictatorship, and now the great gift of pluralism. The long overdue decision by the Tigray Regional Council ushers a new era of democratic representation of diversity of ideas which are considered as assets rather than liabilities.
Why the United States is failing Ethiopia (Part 1) Elias Dawit 08-04-20 - Ethiopia is on the precipice of becoming yet another failed state in Africa. And while this may seem a predictable event for some observers of the arch of modern African history, Ethiopia's steep and rapid downward spiral towards a spectacular collapse is owed, to a great extent, to the misunderstanding and miscalculation of its American ally.
It is puzzling why the U.S. has thrown its support behind the current Ethiopian leadership. The Prime Minister is presiding over a catastrophic downfall of a once-rising success story slated to become a middle-income country by 2030.
Awlo(Must Watch!) With Getachew Reda, TPLF Executive Leader on Tigrai election and more!, Aug 07, 2020
Rating Action: Moody's confirms Ethiopia's rating, outlook negative
London, 07 August 2020 -- Moody's Investors Service ("Moody's") has today confirmed the B2 issuer and senior unsecured rating of the Government of Ethiopia, with the outlook changed to negative. This concludes the review for downgrade initiated on 7 May 2020. The review for downgrade reflected Moody's assessment that the country's participation in the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) raised the risk that private-sector creditors would incur losses.
Ethiopia's economy was growing double-digit every year until Abiy came. Thanks to the illegal federal government and a clueless prime minister fighting with his constituents - the Oromo people, Ethiopia's future has become bleak. Its economy is in tatters! The end of any of the "color revolution" that happened before Ethiopia's color revolution was a failure. It is well documented. Yet, some Ethiopians including Jawar and the company were fooled to support a populist person with no credentials to govern a complex country like Ethiopia. Sad! Today, Ethiopia is failing and Jawar is in jail. Tigrai is blessed to have the TPLF to guard its peace but we are not sure it can guard it against the impending economic catastrophe. What a sad ending it will be unless a miracle happens soon!
Coronavirus Information and Updates: Will it Take Four Years to Get a COVID vaccine? (The Mumps Vaccine took four years.) Some Medical Experts Worry that Pushing out a COVID-19 Vaccine Too soon could mean we Settle for one with Limited Effectiveness at the Cost of a Better Option down the Road. (NationalGeographic.com)
Ethiopians wake-up. The cure for COVID-19 may be years away. Ethiopia could have carried a successful election by now. The Abiy government is using COVID-19 to extend its illegal rule. We can imagine what the future will look like with unelected and illegal government running the country. The future looks bleak - Wakeup Ethiopians!
Thinking Out Loud!!
If there are forces interested to bring change in Ethiopia for good now is the best time to do it since the international community is busy fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and the fact that the Trump administration is busy with its own periodic election and domestic socio-economic issues. The only mention of Ethiopia internationally in recent times is about the GERD and human rights violation in Oromia. The GERD issue is brought to international attention due to Egypt's diplomatic campaign. Also, Abiy is exposed as a serious human right violator by his own sponsors like HRW, AI, and major international media outlets. The people of Ethiopia should not endure any more misery! Dag Wondimu Aug 06, 2020.
An interesting old book written BY THE REV. MICHAEL RUSSELL, HARPER & BROTHERS, PUBLISHERS. New York 1854 which is over 150 years old. A lot of history about Tigray and old Ethiopia. You can see all the districts under Tigray. Check page 79(side pic) which will show you what Tigray is then and what we want to claim now. (from a reader)
Egypt, Sudan suspend talks with Ethiopia over disputed dam Elias Dawit 08-04-20 - Ethiopia is on the precipice of becoming yet another failed state in Africa.
Ethiopian Irrigation Minister Seleshi Bekele tweeted Tuesday that his country would like to sign the first filling agreement as soon as possible Funny, Ethiopia is still talking about the "first filling"! Abiy truly believes Ethiopians have short memory!! It was not that long ago the whole country was told the first filling was done! It is open secret Egypt wants to conclude the agreement that seals its control over the Nile without the involvement of other Nile basin African countries. Dr. Seleshi, leave the comprehensive Nile water use negotiation to the wider team that involves other sister countries. Do not allow Abiy's failed diplomacy to determine the outcome.
Dam collapse destroys 600 houses in Sudan A sudden collapse of a dam in Sudan's Blue Nile State has destroyed 600 houses, local Sudanese media reported on Friday. "Over 600 houses in the neighborhoods of Bout town in Blue Nile State have been destroyed due to a sudden collapse of Bout dam which is used to store around..."
We started Aigaforum some 20 years ago right around the end of the Shaibya-Ethiopia war. One of the earlier songs we have on our page for a long time was "ክነዛርቦምኢና". As if our talented brother was reading our brain he has updated his old song. What a coincidence! We are entering a new chapter to defeat Derge 2.0. Enjoy ክነዛርቦምኢና 2.0. Thank You, Berhane Haile.
