TMH TV: Getachew Reda TPLF Executive Leader on Current Issues - May 2021

Getachew said Ethiopia was doomed from the get-go when Abiy assumed power. He said it is unlikely that Ethiopia will continue as a country thanks to the Amhara Elite's infatuation with dominance. Getachew in the exclusive interview said he sees no hope for Ethiopia to remain as a country because of the untold atrocities the Abiy government and Amhara forces have unleashed on Tigray. Getachew assured Tigrayans of victory and acknowledged that his organization did not live up to protect the people but is committed going forward to do all in its power to safeguard the people and Tigray!

G7 Leaders Can't Ignore Ethiopia's Looming Famine
G7 leaders meeting this week should galvanize an immediate global response to the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Ethiopia's Tigray region. Yesterday, the United Nations and other aid agencies warned that some 350,000 people are already experiencing famine-like conditions in Tigray.

U.S.-EU JOINT STATEMENT ON THE HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCY IN TIGRAY
Seven months into the conflict in Ethiopia's Tigray region, human rights atrocities and the full-blown humanitarian crisis are alarming, currently pushing 400,000 innocent people to the brink of famine and loss of life. This must be addressed immediately. We do well to remember the 1980s famine in Ethiopia, which led to an estimated one million deaths, many as a result of food assistance being blocked.

Open Letter: Excellency, Prime Minister Boris Johnson The President of G-7 Leaders' Summit
GSTS 6-09-21 - The Global Society of Tigray Scholars and Professionals (GSTS)i is gravely concerned with the credible reports emerging from various sources regarding an impending military offensive the Ethiopian and Eritrean forces plan to carry out in Tigray. These sources indicate that the new joint scorched-earth military campaign named 'final offensive' has been authorized by the governments of Eritrea and Ethiopia. As part of the government's plan to exterminate Tigrayans, this phase of military operation is to be carried out with the support of newly imported military hardware including drones...

Open Letter to the G7 Summit - UK Presidency, Cornwall, England, 11-13 June 2021
Mekete UK 6-08-21 -The War on Tigray and the Imperative and Urgency of Taking Concrete Actions to Avert a Full-blown Famine and the Genocide of an African People and Nationality in the 21st Century.
The G7 Summit - UK Presidency is taking place at a time of the global Covid-19 Pandemic and the pressing issues of climate change, trade, and security and geo-political challenges across the globe. The Mekete Tigray UK - a member of the Global Tigrayan Diaspora Association - wishes the G7 Summit success and harmony in its deliberations. Yet, it is crucially important that you also address one of the greatest humanitarian catastrophes of the 21st Century - the genocidal War on Tigray

U.S. Pushes U.N. Security Council to Publicly Address Ethiopia's Tigray
NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield on Thursday pushed for the U.N. Security Council to meet publicly on Ethiopia's conflict-torn Tigray region, where hundreds of thousands of people are in famine conditions. She also told a virtual event on Tigray, organized by the United States and the European Union, that it's "time for the Ethiopian government to respond responsibly to requests for humanitarian access."

Government of Tigray Statement June 08, 2021
Tigray Govt 6-08-21 -The Government of Tigray is, as always, ready to organize, coordinate and ensure timely delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Tigray. First and foremost, on behalf of the people of Tigray, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the international community (including the many human rights advocacy organizations and humanitarian donors) for standing with, and in support of, the people of Tigray during these trying times, as our people face unprecedented atrocities, maliciously inflicted socio-economic crisis and psychological turmoil at the hands of an unholy coalition of invading forces.

Urgent Call to the Impartiality and Transparency in the Work of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in the War-affected People of Tigray
GSTS 06-09-21 - For the last six months, a significant portion of Tigray's population has been denied access to food, medicines, fuel, banking and other essential supplies and life-sustaining commodities. GSTS is cognizant of the challenges inherent to delivering humanitarian assistance in conflict zones. However, the aid distribution mechanism currently in place is not up to the standards of the WFP.

N report reveals presence of Somali fighters in Ethiopia's Tigray region
A UN report due to be submitted to the General Assembly this month says Somali soldiers are fighting alongside Eritrean troops in Ethiopia’s war-torn Tigray region. The 17-page-document prepared by UN special rapporteur Mohamed Babiker discusses the presence of Somali troops in Tigray – an issue that adds another dimension to the continuing conflict and growing humanitarian crisis.

Let Alfred Nobel rest: Revoke the Medal from Abiy
GSTS 06-08-21 - At the time when the Nobel Prize Committee (NPC) awarded the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, the Nobel peace award in 2019, many were elated hoping that the accolade would help the inexperienced Abiy with much needed morale boost to bring about democracy and peace. There were also many of us who were concerned that the award was out of step. One would think that the Norwegian NPC, with its century-old tradition and deep network globally, would have done sufficient research into Abiy's record since assuming office in 2018. There were sufficient clues between 2018 and 2019 that this was not a man of peace, but rather a man of conflict, who rules by deception, double-dealings, and disregard for the wellbeing of citizens.

Letesenbet Gidey breaks two-day-old women's 10,000m world record
06-09-21 - Letesenbet Gidey smashed the women's 10,000 meters world record on Tuesday on the same track where Dutch runner Sifan Hassan had set the previous record just two days previously. Gidey's time of 29 minutes 1.03 seconds at Ethiopia's Olympic trials held in Hengelo in the Netherlands means she now holds the world records in the 5,000m and 10,000m.

Senator Patrick Leahy Statement On The Situation In Tigray, Ethiopia
I vividly recall the shocking images back in 1984 of a million emaciated Ethiopian men, women and children, many of them from Tigray. Today, the people of Tigray are being subjected to human rights atrocities on an appalling scale, and they are being denied urgently needed humanitarian aid – aid that is being blocked by the Ethiopian and Eritrean militaries as well as other armed groups.

The Nobel committee should resign over the atrocities in Tigray
Nobel committee members have individual responsibility for awarding the 2019 peace prize to Abiy Ahmed, accused of waging the war in Tigray. The members should thus collectively resign their honourable positions at the Nobel committee in protest and defiance.

Open Letter to His Excellency António Guterres Secretary General of the United Nations
SJTE 06-07-21 - The UN must adhere to the basic principles of human rights and dignity.
Excellency, Security and Justice for Tigrayans in Ethiopia (SJTE), an advocacy organization, has earlier brought to your attention the plight of the Tigrayan people who have been subjected to a genocidal war unleashed by Ethiopia and its allies. Currently, Tigrayans and other Ethiopians all over the country are living in a state of fear.

Open Letter to Kristalina Georgieva Managing Director, International Monetary Fund
SJTE 06-07-21 - Dear Director Georgieva: We are writing to urge the International Monetary Fund to reevaluate its practices and halt its financial assistance to the government of Ethiopia which is committing atrocities of untold ruthlessness on its own people, the worst of which is in the Tigray region. We as diaspora Ethiopians of Tigrayan origin and as members of Security and Justice for Tigrayans in Ethiopia (SJTE), an advocacy organization, are extremely worried by IMF’s continued engagement with the [Abiy] government

The Passing of a Genocidal Empire
Mogos Abraham, PhD 06 June 2021 - Motivated by a shear racism or madness, genocide is a systematic extermination of a human group, which is endowed with its own identity of race, language, nationality, faith, culture, history, and territorial distinction. It was first recognized as a crime under international law in 1946 by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/96-I); and codified as an independent crime in the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the Genocide Convention).

Negotiations? What Negotiations?
Alemseged Abbay 06-05-21 - There are three players in genocide: perpetrators, victims, and bystanders. Bystanders-domestic and international- determine whether a genocide occurs or not. Domestic bystanders can be passive onlookers as in the case of the Germans in the anti-Jewish Holocaust, vocal opponents as in the public uproar against the Nazi assault on disabled Germans, or active participants as in the case of the Hutu masses in the anti-Tutsi Rwandan genocide.

John 9:31 We Know That God Does Not Listen to Sinners: Senator Inhofe prays with Abiy Ahmed
Elias Dawit 06-02-21 - As Ethiopian and Eritrean troops ravage Tigray - murdering civilians, raping women and girls, looting homes, and destroying hospitals, schools, and churches - Senator James Inhofe solemnly knelt down in prayer with the perpetrator of these crimes against humanity, Abiy Ahmed. What was Senator Inhofe thinking as he bowed his head and spoke to our Creator? Was he thinking about his granddaughter, Zegeta, born in Ethiopia but raised...

UN: Famine is imminent in Ethiopia's embattled Tigray region
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Famine is imminent in Ethiopia’s embattled Tigray region and in the country’s north, the U.N. humanitarian chief said, warning there’s a risk that hundreds of thousands of people or more will die. Mark Lowcock said the economy has been destroyed along with businesses, crops and farms and there are no banking or telecommunications services.

Eritrean Army's License for Genocide
Aynalem Sebhatu 06-03-21 - The license of Isaias Afewerki to mow down Tigray to the ground, I submit, is a consequence of a delusional leader of Ethiopia who is totally blinded by insatiable personal power and the mindless Amhara political and intellectual elites who are blinded by hate and vindictive mind set. Even though it is not comparable to the Amhara political groupies, to a certain extent Abiy’s support comes from the Oromo’s political elites too.

Stick to Principles: Law enforcement action required to spare Tigrayan civilians.
Haki Reteie 06/01/21 - The international community must adhere to just moral and legal principles and take more robust and swift action against the Eritrean, Ethiopian and Amhara leaders/forces, including coercive law enforcement measures, to spare over 5 million Tigray’s civilian population, irrespective of their bogus sovereignty claims and foolish threats.

Lost limbs, rising anger as town is caught up in Tigray war
HAWZEN, Tigray (AP) - Shops remained shuttered, some government workers hadn’t been paid and the town’s main hospital was utterly laid to waste. But the Tigrayan fighters still claimed victory, swaggering through the streets of Hawzen with their guns.Hawzen, a rural town in the ethnic Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, is a microcosm of the challenge facing Abiy Ahmed

The Call must be Cease Genocide, not Cease fire.
Gebre Selema 06-04-21 - I think the world is playing word game such as sanction, visa restriction and now cease fire. Before this we had monotonous press releases of expressing concerns, worries, deep concerns, deep worries, grave concerns. Now the word game has evolved to sanction, visa restriction and now cease fire.

US-EU plan meeting to keep spotlight on Ethiopia ahead of G-7
Humanitarian and development leaders from the United States and European Union are planning a live-streamed roundtable on Ethiopia next week, as pressure mounts on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed over the Tigray conflict. A draft preparatory note, seen by Devex, lists two objectives: "To mobilize consensus among U.S. allies on the enormity of the humanitarian and human rights emergency in Tigray."

Over 90% in Ethiopia's Tigray need emergency food aid: UN
More than 90 percent of people in Ethiopia's war-torn Tigray region need emergency food aid, the United Nations said Tuesday, as it appealed for over $200 million to scale up its response. The UN World Food Programme voiced alarm that the conflict had caused an increase in hunger levels which were already high in Tigray.

Force, not sanctions, stops genocide.
Alemseged Abbay 05-31-21 - If the atrocities in Tigray were ordinary crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Amhara and Eritrean occupiers, the US sanctions (US Resolution # 97) would be commendable. However, what is going on in Tigray is not a conventional violation of human rights. It goes way beyond that. It is a textbook genocide which, obviously, must be stopped immediately and unconditionally, if there is the will on the part of the international community.

Open Letter to President Joe Biden
SJTE 06-01-21 - Eritrean and Amhara forces deliberately disrupting farming operations throughout Tigray, Ethiopia
Dear President Biden: We, members of Security and Justice for Tigrayans in Ethiopia (SJTE), are writing again desperately seeking help for our families that we left behind in Tigray. We are US citizens and diaspora sons and daughters of Tigray farming families fortunate enough to live and work in America but terrified at the deplorable and alarming news coming from the region.

  • Open Letter to Mr. David R. Malpass President, The world Bank Group
SJTE 06-01-21 - Halt financial support to the government of Ethiopia which is committing genocide
Dear Mr. Malpass: We are writing to urge the World Bank to reevaluate its practices and halt its financial support to the government of Ethiopia which is committing unspeakable atrocities on its own people, the worst of which is in the Tigray region. We as diaspora Ethiopians with Tigrayan origin and as members of Security and Justice for Tigrayans in Ethiopia (SJTE), an advocacy organization, are extremely troubled and dismayed by the Bank’s practices of funding a government widely condemned for committing atrocities.
