Beri Meyda: Girls Boarding School in Samere - Tigrai. July 2019
(Amahric Version- with a english caption)
The spirit and can-do attitude of our people are amazing. A few years back we
interview Col Zenibu the brainchild behind this wonderful project and tried to
introduce the project to the Diaspora. We knew then she was committed and was
going to finish this project come rain or shine! Despite all the negative
developments in Ethiopia over the last few years Col Zenebu and her partners
have successfully established the boarding school. ኮሪዕናለኩም!
Tigrai Diaspora Festival: Opening Ceremony - Mekelle July 31, 2019
Unbelievable victory for a Tigriaan in the world of cycling race. 20 years old, Mulu Kinfe Hailemeskel won the 2019 'Bassano Monte Grappa' cycling competition in Italy today. I believe Mulu is the first Tigriaan to win such a prestigious Award in our modern history.

The Most Repressive State You May Have Never Heard Of With more than 25 million people forcibly displaced from their countries by the end of 2018, the world currently faces an unprecedented refugee crisis. Among the countries with the highest rates of displacement are Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Afghanistan - all of which are riven by war and instability. Also on this list, however, is Eritrea.
Egypt hands Ethiopia its vision of Renaissance Dam The Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation yesterday announced the return of Minister Mohamed Abdel-Ati from a three-day overseas tour to Sudan and Ethiopia to discuss the latest developments in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.The Minister handed Egypt's final vision of the filling and operation rules of the Renaissance Dam to the Ethiopian Minister ... It is a step in the right direction for Egypt to acknowledge the Dam will be built. The filling period has been always open to negotiation. It should be easy to find a middle ground. However, Ethiopian officials should never allow foreign entities to have a say in the day to day management and operation of this Dam! Remember Ethiopians own the dam! (Engaw be Engaw) slogan!!!
The Abiy government must be cruel or foolish to continue the same way it has been leading the country for the past year. The displacement of millions and the break-down of law and order are not an outcome of a stable and responsible government. We despise the enablers of this government!
If Meaza Ashenafi has an iota of respect she should simply resign because the office she is leading is not respected at all. Is she not aware the executive body has ignored judges decision in many cases over the past year? Meaza, you were supposed to be a judge, not a policymaker or a general!

Ethiopia is in the Midst of a Rapid Democratic Renewal. Can It Succeed? Ethiopia's political scene is changing. Since taking office in April 2018, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has accelerated a process of political opening, including greater freedom of the press, the release of political prisoners, a detente with Eritrea, and other meaningful reforms. But Ethiopia's transition to a liberal, open and multi-party democracy has faced some significant challenges...On the line to help explain why Ethiopian politics is at such a pivotal moment right now is William Davidson
One of the best analysis of the predicament of Ethiopia to date! Westerners are accustomed to associating every change with an individual instead of a group or a party. Abiy may be a prime minister of Ethiopia but he cannot change Ethiopia by himself. If there is going to be a change in Ethiopia, nation and nationalities and the peoples of Ethiopia will have to be part of it. Of all political parties in Ethiopia today, only the EPRDF can pretend or claim it represents the nation and nationalities of Ethiopia. Therefore, if EPRDF fails so will Ethiopia!
SAVE TIGRAY'S CHILDREN FROM SHARING DASS* CLASSES WITH SNAKES Aseffa Abreha 8-2-19 - Sometime ago, a presentation of a three-year development plan of the Tigray Development Association (TDA) was broadcast by its Board Chairman, Engineer Yemane Tadesse. I found the presentation very impressive. It is clearly thought out, well designed and presented. The Board Chairman explained with clarity the contribution of TDA ...
A Changing Ethiopia: What is the Legacy of Ethnic Federalism?
United States Institute of Peace- With more than 100 million people, Ethiopia is one of Africa's most important and populous countries. It's also unusual: Ethiopia is Africa's only explicitly ethnically federal state. But amid opening political space and historic national reforms, this model of federalism is coming under strain and the country's broader national stability is being tested.
While Abiy's government is moving forward without any meaningful dialogue into the unknown, the USA is trying its best to guide the process by educating the public on what it thinks Ethiopia's problem is! This is the second time it is holding such dialogue although no one from Ethiopia has formally asked for the constitution to be revisited or better understood - Oh well, except Berhanu Nega's latest political camp!
Coffee-Growing Nations Plan UN Protest as Slump Ruins Farmers Presidents from coffee-growing nations are planning to use this year's meeting of the UN General Assembly to demand higher prices from the world's biggest roasters. Ethiopia: Can the Future Prevail? Dr. Marina Ottaway July 2019 - The Ethiopian economy has grown at the remarkable rate of about 10 percent a year for over a decade, the result of a deliberate policy by then Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to promote an East Asian-style developmental state. This remarkable growth has also triggered a political backlash that is pushing the country back toward the bitter clash of ethnic nationalisms ...

Who was the one that said the OroMara coalition is "እሳት እና ጭድ?" In just a little over a year, the two are on a cutthroat campaign to undermine each other! Meantime, Ethiopia is suffering! It is really sad the elders and learned men and women from these two large communities are allowing the destruction of Ethiopia by enabling an inept government. Read the two Open Letters! Republic of Ethiopia Travel Advisory Expanded July 29th, 2019 - A Level 2 Travel Advisory was expanded for the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia by the US Department of State. This Ethiopian 'Exercise Increased Caution' Travel Advisory issued on July 29, 2019, is related to sporadic civil unrest and communications disruptions. And, incidents of civil unrest and ethnic violence may occur without warning.... If the country is not at peace as the respected western embassies are saying, why are all the respected media from the west reporting the country planted 350 Million trees in one day yesterday? Who is lying? Almost most of the South is under siege, Western Oromia has been off-limit for a while and we all know what is happening in the Amhara region, so who planted the 350 million trees yesterday?
The Populist Prime Minister of Ethiopia and His Development Priorities Assefa A. Lemu 7-28-19 - Understanding the personality/characteristics of the person who leads our country, his political tactics, and strategies, his intentions, goals, and visions are very important. We can learn some of these from what he wrote, what he spoke, and what he did. To this end, I read Dr. Abiy's book titled "Erkab Ena Menber" and shared my review of that book with the readers ...
Hedase Dam is Alive- Thank You PM Abiy! (Aigaforum) July 27, 2019 - Thank You DW TV! Hoping against hope that you have not become one addition to the enabler's media that tainted this project in the name of "change" we are ecstatic to hear the project is on track again! We heard early on, once Abiy assumed power, Egypt was asking for the destruction of the physical dam! We were really heartbroken! Given the UAE and Saudi interest in...
Ethiopia attempts to break record by planting 200 million trees in a day Ethiopian officials believe they set a world record on Monday by planting more than 200 million trees in a single day. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed led Monday's effort which is aimed at countering the effects of deforestation and climate change in Ethiopia. The effort is part of Green Legacy Initiative that started during the late PM Meles Zenawi, which is taking part in 1,000 places across the drought-prone country.
The Escalating Suppression of Southern Ethiopian Nationalities Makonnen Tesfaye, July 27, 2019
No sooner had the blood of the martyred Sidama People dried - with over 100 deaths to date and perpetrated by the Federal and Regional forces - when the Abiy Government put the whole of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR) under a State of Emergency (dressed up as Military Command Post).
Horn of Africa Drought Threatens Re-run of Famines Past UNITED NATIONS, Jul 25 2019 (IPS) - Humanitarian groups and the United Nations are warning of another drought in the Horn of Africa, threatening a repeat of the deadly dry spell and famine that claimed lives in Somalia and its neighbours eight years ago.The British charity Oxfam said Thursday that more than 15 million people across drought-stricken parts of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia now needed handouts...
It is really sad to see Ethiopia sliding back to square one! All the hard work over the last 28 years was to avoid such humiliating begging of handouts. The lords of poverty will be in full swing begging the Western World to save the Horn of Africa! Meanwhile, the Abiy government is busy auctioning the main industries of the country that were pillars of the development. Once auctioned, Ethiopia will be truly a beggar country with no means to develop the infrastructure needed to fight poverty/famine of the future!
How Long Will the Center Hold?: National Security, the Economy and Elections Elias Dawit 7-25-19 - Although unfashionable in today's political discourse to bring up the ideas of former Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, it is hard to ignore his thinking on issues related to Ethiopia's national security and economy. In a country of over 100 million people cohabitating together in a rough neighborhood of ethnic, religious, regional and political differences...
The Sidama Question, Democratic Self-determination and Federalism Makonnen Tesfaye; July 24, 2019 - The manner of the handling and the brutal attack on Sidama people's aspiration and constitutional right for a Regional Statehood is yet another major milestone of the Abiy Government's systematic onslaught on democracy, self-determination and federalism in Ethiopia. The fifth biggest nationality in Ethiopia, the Sidama ...
