Déjà vu

Déjà vu

According to Wikipedia, Déjà vu (/ˌdeɪʒɑː ˈvuː, - ˈvjuː/) is the feeling that one has lived through the present situation before. The phrase literally translates as "already seen.” I remember a long time ago, during Siad Bare’s regime, when Somaliland youths flock to Mogadishu to apply for a passport to flee their motherland. They would sleep in the parking lots outside the Somali Immigration Office to secure their places in the queue, which at times stretched miles and miles around the building; only to be denied and sometimes jailed for being unpatriotic. If lucky, they were able to return on a long journey back home, rather than being arrested. It was common for business leaders to seek their commercial licenses from Mogadishu. To pursue higher education, one was forced to go to Mogadishu. In other words Mogadishu was the center of universe.  During Seventies Somaliland youths were risking their lives and freedom to travel to Middle East countries similar to the current immigrants risking their lives to cross the Mediterranean.

Videos From Around The World

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. To covet truth is a very distinguished passion. George Santayana (16 December 1863 in Madrid, Spain – 26 September 1952 in Rome, Italy) was a philosopher, essayist, poet and novelist.”

The inexperienced so called leaders  and their cronies whom currently reside in Villa Somalia, under the protection of foreign military forces from AMISOM member states seem to  have forgotten the history, the bloodshed, loss of millions of lives, destruction of properties and displacement of millions and millions of Somalis whom are nowadays dispersed on every corner of the globe.

Mr Farmajo aka “Mr. Cheese Head” just flipped a page from his late uncle’s tactics and announced that Somaliland business leaders in order to export their livestock to Saudi Arabia, they must obtain “ certificate of health” from Mogadishu. Unfortunately he is not good student of history. He needs to be reminded that Somaliland is a sovereign nation seeking recognition after dissolving the failed union. Somaliland is not seeking its independence now. Somaliland was an independent and sovereign country before it united with Somalia. Somaliland withdrew from the failed union and regained it sovereignty in May 18, 1991. After Somaliland gained its independence from British they decided to unite with Somalia. It was an emotionally driven, nationalism based on  “Pan

Africanism” sentiment in the continent of Africa. This was a good faith gesture and unilateral, unfortunately this was not reciprocated by their counterparts.

The international community must pay attention to the ill-intended behavior, unwelcome interference and constant attack of the so called Federal Government towards the regional states in their pursuit to probe puppet local governments to extend their corrupt system. Somalia is on the verge of descending into chaos, if not rescued by peace loving international communities and true Somali patriots whom are willing to take a risk to save their country.

Somaliland has fulfilled all the requirements of statehood as follows: - It is undeniable that Somaliland was an independent and existing sovereign country before the union with Somalia . As was recently demonstrated by Drs. Edna Aden in her recent press conference on Somaliland Independence in Addis Ababa upon her return from Guinea Conakry.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=726cLIR4BEE

- Has own constitution approved and supported by the citizens of Somaliland. - Has its own currency. - Has defined boundaries according to the AU charter. - Had five fair and free presidential elections witnessed by international observers. - Established peace within its boundaries for the last three decades while its southern neighbor- Somalia still remains unstable and is under the protection of UNSOM and currently AMISOM for the last thirty years.

Now it is time for the international community to decide and recognize Somaliland based on the facts mentioned above and the fact the Somaliland being a sovereign country before the failed union. Somaliland must be rewarded because what they have achieved in terms of peace and stability and by reclaiming what is already theirs. On the other hand Somalia is on the path of self-destruction and is heading towards it’s dark past if not rescued again. We are all witnessing the naked invasion, interference and attack of Farmajo against member states of the federal government.
