Looking Deep in to this Picture and Remembering

If you look deep in to this picture and fall back in to memory lane imagine how many of our people suffered to bring such development. Seeing these magnificent towers of hope and energy it looks as if they are there to represent those who died. The battle to defeat poverty once for all started as you all know in these hills – so to speak. These and other similar hills all over Tigray hold in them the remains of those gallant fighters who died. With time passing those who died to bring peace, justice and development may be fading away from our memory but we sure hope projects like these will keep them fresh for eternity. Look at the picture and share what comes to your mind, have your say!

  1. Dear Aiga,

You are right, the more I look at these huge towers standing in the middle of no where I truly thought I am looking at my own Sister and Brother who perished during the struggle days. I am sobbing really it is hard even after all these years, I pray the development will continue.

    Thankyou, your sister,

  2. Eternal Glory to our Heroes!! Your martyrdom is sacred and for noble objectives. You are always in hour hearts and will remain in the hearts of generations to come.
Now, specifically about Tigray, undoubtedly, huge successes have been achieved in many fields the last few years. But, my opinion is that these successes could have been even bigger if more effort and vision had been added by the authorities in the region. I sincerely believe that Tigray should have been lifted out of poverty already. There is a potential to achieve that. Next time, I want to see these camels replaced by trucks.

  3. Reqiq, good observation…the camels keep going indeed and this time it is a journey of development they are walking through…look the background.

    Thanks,

    • Yes, Indeed, the background speaks for itself – a great scope for harnessing Wind Energy and more to the betterment of our people life.

We are grateful for our heroes who perished during the struggle days. We honor them and remember their sacrifices always and celebrate the extraordinary lives our love once and honor their ultimate service to all of Ethiopian and Africa people. ዘልኣለማዊ ዝኽሪ ንስዉኣትና!

Empty handed , some of them holding a stick(Betri) on their shoulder, whispering to each other! Mostly, they stay around for a half day, & a new guys arrives…! I remember my brother came back from dedenit during the hinfishfish with his head infested with lice & my mother said to him”ርእስኽን ካብቁማል ነፃ ዘየውፃእኽንስ ንስኻትክን ዓዲ ነፃ ክተውፃኣ፣ኣብየትየ” my brother answered”ዘይተርፍ እዩ ከምዚ ዘለናዮማ ክንነብር ኣንኽእልን፣ ሎሚ ክንቁምል ኢና ፅባሕ ድሕሪ ዓወት ዓወት ግን ኩሉ ፀገማትና ክፍታሕ እዩ ” it’s a kind of miracle!

  5. Dear Aiga,

Do not be complacent for in the name of people who gave their life. You may not agree with me, but you have betrayed them long ago. EPRDF officials the most corrupt leaders in Africa now? how would you compare that with the people who gave their only life? how would you see yourself? Imagine, someone dies for good cause, but others betray that and steal money? send their children to study in Europe as if their children are different? These camels were there and they are still there? This must have changed by now? Nothing impossible, but if people corrupted? selfish, cruel, …. then even development does not mean anything. Do not be elated too much. We want justice, transparency, equality, impartiality, hard work, merit, instead of zemed bezemed. As long as you are doing business zemed bezemed, then your development means nothing to me.

  6. Dear Aiga

Thanks for your presentation of the above; development and hope are essential for Tigrai. I can say not much has been done yet to this area. I travelled from Addis to the North and back by road this year in August, not enough has been done yet except for the roads comparing what the area has contributed for the general development and change in all spheres. The humble and honest people of Tigrai, specially the old women, are poor and sick with nothing allocated for their favour from my observation; these are the women young beautiful, hopeful and vibrant when I saw them as a young girl years ago

  7. Great Job, Aiga! I do appreciate your commitment and stand with the people of truth we sacrificed their precious and one life for the betterment of Tigray and the Rest of Ethiopia, equality of the nations and nationalities of the Ethiopian people, and peace and stability of the war ravaged land and the region.

I have a message for those who appreciate and want better not less. Let’s stand together for ever and work hard to pass the torch from generation to generation.

    Thanks!

  8. This is a good development. Those wind turbines in Nazreth (Adama) area are also good signs of development. This indicates us everywhere you go, you can get natural wealth to develop for human use. Now we must understand that, the we need to work on hydro where there is water, wind turbines where there is wind power, solar energy where there is enough solar radiation and geothermal where there is a good reserve of gas. This is really , I can see good contribution of every region for the national economy. What I do not understand is the way people giving the intention related to the martyrs. Well if we believe our government is democratic now, we can give every development for the martyrs . No one down regulate the roles of the martyrs but everything should not be related to this only, new generation is new generation! The camels are moving while the dogs are barking, but it is only the first camel moves, but the others are immersed in corruption and stop moving although the person pushes them to walk among them, Look this: http://www.wavuti.com/4/post/2013/12/2013-country-rankings-in-transparency-international-corruption-perception-index.html#axzz2mUNafDTp

  9. I remind me the true fight against poverty and antidemocracy. camels are hardship tolerant, so do the Tigrieans, one camel is equal to two-three donkyes, so do the galant fighters and camels bring table salt which was the ideal mineral by then and which brought good cash so do the result of the armed struggle.
But going to the denakil is not always a success, malaria, high temprature and many other challenges hinder so do the achievement of the esteemed armed struggle, corrupption, nepotism, selfcenterdness…..
any way going to the Denakil or Berahelay pays, so let us go forward with all the challenges, whether we belive it or not the fruits are visible.

  10. There is no doubt that Ethiopia is showing economic change and progress and that is visible. The question though is did the martyrs give there life to bring economic change or freedom and democracy or both? I think the best answer is both. In fact i argue that the primary goal of the martys was bringing freedom and equality. I doubt there is eqaulity and freedom in ethiopia today, though there is economic growth. That is why Meles clearly said that “Democracy and devlopment are not necessarily connected”. But the question remained which should be first to bring sustinable devlopment? For the communists who belive in the primacy of economy, development is importnat. For me who is anti-communist, freedom is first.

  11. Dear Aigaforum,
Good work but you need to see the other part of the truth!!
When you see the administration system and the delivery of public services in Tigray, it is a very saddening situation. The heroic people who paid dearly for the change of regime have got very very little.
Administrators are just meeting everyday as if they were employed only to hold meetings. There is huge bureaucracy in delivering services in Tigray. The services being delivered are not delivered properly, telephone (continued loss of network), water (no clean water is provided to the people in the villages) health (empty clinics, no doctor, no medicine), transport (no public buses at a lower cost, no asphalted road except that constructed by Italy, no proper administration of means of transport), security (many people are being arbitrarily arrested and killed in all the border areas for their alleged collaboration with either Shaebia or Demhit, the same thing Derge was doing) and so on.
The government is not doing anything. Please you have to be honest to expose the bad or rather failing administration in Tigray which controls the citizens like its own property. People are not free to protest any bad administration. They are tied by many spying networks and economic aid. There is no creativity in all aspects of life. After all, when people are not free, they cannot be creative.
On top of that some chauvinists are conspiring against the people of Tigray. If you check, for example, the statistics of tourists who visited the historical places, you will realize that Axum has the least. Why? First of all, it is the bad administration and bad transport to blame. Secondly, the chauvinists are telling foreign tourists not to go to Tigray. It is shocking! We are not doing anything against that.
Look at the media in Tigray. They speak the same thing admiring everything as if Tigray is turned to heaven, as if there are no other challenges to report. While other regional TVs are very good quality, the TV in Tigrigna is boring and Audi visually bad quality. Why is this so, rather than Tigray being a leader and exemplary in many aspects?
I am sorry, while we appreciate what has been done in the past we have to critically and honestly assess the challenges of the present; otherwise our future would be compromised.
So we are failing Tigray and its proud people. We have to tell our so-called leaders to respect and serve our people rather than they serve their families. I actually see it a big crime when the leaders send their children to foreign countries for education while the sons and daughters of the martyrs are not even having a proper school at home.
    Thanks,
    Gobay

    • What ever you said is true, aiga please ask what is the benift our people got from this projects? I was in tigray in summer, went from mekelle to shire through temben come around by welwallo, but not such developments have been done except the road got much better than the last four years. We should also let the outhorities know that they are not doing what they suppose to do, there is so much corruption going on, no accounteblity and honesty on what they are doing. On the otherhand our people are doing the best they can eventhough their leaders are not helping them . When you are taxing the tax payers 15% on whatever they buy is anfair to a people that just come out of 30year civilwar, it is forced on them….ect if this is what they die our mertry for that is not right, they died for freedom, equality and harmony among our people, but aiga it is never late to see why we complain not enough is done in tigray in particular and in ethiopia in general.

  12. Dear Aiga

There were two events where I have ever elighetened : one when I saw the giant propellors of the windmills in Ashogoda were driving the wind to produce energy, and two days back while watching the TV I noticed a women chisling the steelbars and building the traines in the Automotive Industry. The revolving baldes enlighten that we are entering into the accelearion phase of our develpment and the woman chiseling the steel demonstrated that we are scrapping out poverty for good from our history. KUDOS! to those who have cherised their invaluable life to bring about the current state and more importantly to the leadership of EPRDF who have/are unreservedly and determindely worked to the last drop of their calory heading the most formidable path to extricate this country and its people out of abject povery.

Appreciations to the Admin of Aigaformu for creating the forum to vent our feelings. I lookforward to bring similar discussion on matters related to EELPA and Ethio Telecome into this fora. We understand that there alot of huge transformative works beign done byt these two giants but this should not be an excuse for the rampant corruptions and inefficiencies in these two companies. At least allow us to vent out our grievancies!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks

    • I totally agree. We need to discuss issues relating to Ethiopia Telecom and EELPA as both of the industry classified as key strategic institutions. Issues around human capacity, knowledge transfer, tapping Diaspora experience and knowledge and proving professional opinions and inputs on new and existing policies/procedures, project management, effective management system, monitoring and quality assurance, etc.

      Thank you,

  13. Than you Aiga, this photograph will, perhaps remind many, how much price have been paid to the stage to reached to the stage where we are now. I think, one of the factors which has played a very important role in speeding up the development effort is the enormous trust the people have entrusted on EPRDF/TPLF. In other words, the relationship between the people and the current government is based on that priceless lives paid to reach to this moment of development. But mind you on the other hand, if the people whom the front,or EPRGF has pledged to serve honestly comes to understand that things are not going consistent with the hopes that the people had, that will turn to the worst, because the link between EPRDF and the people will be shattered. Perhaps the craven may prompt one profoundly to feel the travel to SORDO, in Afar where many of our gallant fighters perished in that lonely desert because of thirst. It was really the price, very expensive price indeed, that had to be paid to defeat dictatorship with the hope to build a democratic country, Ethiopia. How many people, particularly of those who participated in that difficult moment of armed struggle, do remember and the pledge they entered to serve the peole honestly ?Are all people as honest as they were before or during the arm struggle? In my view, the answer is yes there are but perhaps very few in number.
The moment one decides to be corrupt, that is the moment the person has given up his/ her human identity. Believe you corruption is the worst evil practice of all malpractices man may ever commit. Now, that is what we are experiencing amongst many. I am afraid the day will come that such people will pay the price. They cannot bury their head in the sand like the ostrich that tried to bury its head in the sand. Some if not many have failed to demonstrate their honesty to the martyrs lest behind in the bushes.

  14. it’s really touching ….dear Aigas, really happy to see you guys to observe such phenomenon. thanks to our sisters and brothers who remain in these areas. their sacrifice pave a way to our presence. and lastly i want to tell you that i am happy and grateful to be one of the shipping officers to transport these Towers in the sky. Regards

  15. Dear Aiga,

Your presentation deeply touches each and evry Tigreway. Realizing ‘development’ was at the core of the heavy toll price paid by the people of Tigray. What we have achived, icluding the one you presented, are all seeds of the forthcoming Tigray and symbolizes that our martyrs would be alive for eternity.
    Thank you.

  16. This is a rmarkable Work of our Heros!!
What shall I say for this tremondos work !!
Only God Bless those who done this wonderful deed.

  17. Yes…. to the heroes brothers and sisters sacrifices their own personal life with out any hesitations to see Tigrai a great opportunity for all ages to live; we will always remember & proudly powered up with their name

  18. In 1985 Ethiopian calendar, just two years after the removal of the Derg regime, I traveled to north Ethiopia, in Tigray and Gondar and wondered the natural damage of the landscape, the depth of poverty and the terrible earth roads. It really makes me to believe that the fight with poverty was just started and wondered the number of gallant fighters fall-down in those rugged landscapes of north Ethiopia. I just traveled the same route last year, in 2005 Ethiopian calendar, and it took me by surprise the level of change I have seen. new roads, changed landscape covered with plantation hard working people, in general amazing development. along my way, I saw the Ashegoda wind farm and wished if GOD allows those martyrs to raise for moments to see how their sacrifice saved millions of life.

But, we also must remember that we still have huge task ahead to make poverty history in this country of ours.

  19. Dear Aiga,
I have posted my opinions but it is not eyt published. I hope you will decide to publish it even if you do not agree to what i said. If you believe that you stand for good of Tigray, you better stand to be a medium even for the opinions you do not necessarily endorse. Otherwise, you will remain one extreme of the two spectrums: supporter Vs. opposition.
That is not lving upto the principle for which the heroes and heroines dead for.

  21. those camels are carrying salt bar not logistics for woyyane. They are Afars not Tigres. Why you repeat your lie as usual?

  22. What can I say Ethiopia? Keep on the correct path. To me life is becoming sweeter than honey because of your children’s effort and sacrifice. I am waiting to a brighter Ethiopia.

  23. the Wind turbines are not made in Tigray or Ethiopia. That I would call development. And look at the contrasting picture of the camel caravan. I don’t see what you see after three decades of bloodshed and wasted time. I hope you don’t take that personal.

  24. Let truth be told.
I see growth and development more so in addis and central Ethiopia
don’t see development in Tigray, the picture is part of the story but not the full reality
    in the ground.
I recently visited some of the schools in Tigray.
1- children are still suffering from malnutrition in schools
not able to learn or focus, some of them come to school with out breakfast to
attend school, because they don’t have any.
this kids are the future of this country.
FIRST HAND INFORMATION SEEN BY MYSELF
2- Individual rights more restricted in Tigray than other parts of Ethiopia
3- Tigray is number one corruption, compared to other regions according to
    government statistics.
4- business people and investors leaving the region in big numbers because of too
much taxation, and administration issues specially Mekele.
5- To make things worst, you are not telling us how people are surviving daily life in
Tigray, go interview the people, will tell you the how life is difficult, if they fearful of
    repercussions.

  25. Dear aigaforum,
Thanks for posting. The world is changed to development and technology, so our will be to that no more war with any one, and not to be a thief of any thing to see our people living good , because most of us still we don’t learn about truth and realistic of things to go to the honest line, because our leaders are lier and cheaters, also we got this things from them.

    Don’t be thief.

  26. You people, get out of this “Rebel mode” you have been operating on for decades. More than twenty years have passed since you controlled power, and yet you are still calling your own people “the enemy”. Remember, those soldiers you were fighting along side Shabia were Ethiopian citizens. I suggest you stop calling them enemies, and celebrating their death every now and then.

    • Why did you jump to a conclusion without giving it a thought? Did we ever say the enemy was you or any one else except poverty? May be you are of the mind Derge was not an obstacle that should be removed to win the fight aganist poverty! Thanks

  27. One more point, yes there is a lot of construction going on all over the country, but most of it is done by foreign know-how. Do you know who is getting in line to take advantage of the telecom industry when the government relaxes the regulation, assuming that might happen in the near future? It is companies from South Africa, Kenya and the likes. Nothing from Ethiopia. That says a lot about how far Ethiopia has come in technology and anything innovation. We are far behind our neighbor Kenya in everything technology. The government must device a policy to encourage home grown innovation. We should have companies who write our software, design the hardware, produce engines, utensils, stoves, refrigerators, electronics materials and so on. When we can do that, then you may start talking about it 24/7, but right now, there isn’t really much to boast about. It is time for work. No more martyr this martyr that. The only martyrs most of us give recognition are those who died fighting fascist italy and shabia.

  28. I love the picture of line of camels carrying bars of salts coming from Arho (Danakil depression), passing through Kuiha along the newly developed wind energy source Ashegoday. Believe me Ethiopia is just starting development and whatever the political differences among the people I want such development of the country to continue at pace.

  29. Aiga,
I like the picture, but the articles on your web site are always one side stories and exaggerated. The state of Tigrai is the most corrupted state. Please expose those corrupted authorities.
    Thanks
