By attending the Queen Sheba School of Adwa, Tigrai, Ethiopia, Dr. Desta strongly believes that his life and his outlook have changed. As he stated it, “much of the influence I received toward being a full professor and a rigorous researcher came from attending the Queen Sheba elementary school of Adwa. Queen Sheba School made me feel much more prepared and confident about my future. I learned valuable lessons both in and out of the classroom. Therefore, it is heartwarming and I feel really rewarding to donate an historic U.S. $30,000 for the building of both Wood and Metal workshops to students seeking technical careers so that they can achieve success in life. Stated differently, I fully financed the vocational building at the Queen Sheba School, Adwa, because of my passion for the School, the experience I had when attending the school, my belief in the importance of education, and in order to help develop more skilled workers as the way to give back to the school that served me so well.”

Professor Desta Vocational Buildingwas completed, and formally inaugurated by his mother, Woizero Worku Reda on the 1st of December, 2005. Now, the building has been completed, it is the hope of the Queen Sheba School’s Alumni of Seattle, Washington that Dr. Desta’s “generosity and thoughtfulness will make a difference in the lives of the students in Adwa and others will follow in his footsteps.”
