Ethio-Eritrea - Tserona Skirmish: The Battle that ended before it started

Ethio-Eritrea - Tserona Skirmish: The Battle that ended before it started

Aigaforum June 16, 2016 - The madman regime in Eritrea has been trying to derail Ethiopia's peace ever since the end of the last war. Isaias Afeworki of Eritrea was handed an agonizing defeat that is still causing him pain. As if healing his wounds depends on increasing grief of Ethiopia and Ethiopians, he has been sponsoring and promoting terrorist acts in Ethiopia using mercenaries and proxy groups like Al-Shabaab.

The Tserona skirmish we heard about the last few days was not his first and probably not his last said a defense official we talked. Although the skirmish in the Tserona front in northern Ethiopia was deadly for Eritrea, the Eritrean regime continues to provoke Ethiopia in many ways the official told us.

Recently the Eritrean regime sent few mercenaries to southern Ethiopia to start a terrorist base.  According to the official, although not yet established, the connection between the latest Al-Shabaab daring raid on Ethiopia's military camp he said has no doubt that the regime in Asmara was behind the operation.

The Eritrean regime was also behind the abduction of miners from the border area. The abducted people were returned after Ethiopia demanded, in no uncertain terms, for the safe return of the people.

For anyone who has been following events of the last few months and knowing Ethiopia has an outstanding policy of returning in kind to any provocation it makes little sense, said the official, to ask who started the latest skirmish or why it started. The skirmish happened because the regime in Asmara is bent over promoting destruction in Ethiopia. Ethiopia, however, is determined to punish anyone who tries to derail her peace.

Despite the media magnified coverage of the event the official told us the engagement did not last long and the fighting spirit of the enemy was non-existent. The regime in Asmara’s loss was huge and if the madman regime does not stop the provocation the retribution will continue according to the official.

The official told us Ethiopia is waiting and the military is on a standby to respond in kind to any further incitement. He stressed further action will be more severe! Asked about details of casualties the official told us they will disclose details when it is appropriate. However, he said the loss on Ethiopia’s side was very low compared to the size of the operation. The enemy really did not have the gut to fight at all.
