Tigrayan Ethiopians in the Chicago area held a meeting to Discuss the Unrest in Ethiopia - Oct 2016 We Tigrayan Ethiopians in the Chicago area held a meeting on October 15th 2016 to asses and review current political as well as humanitarian developments in our mother land. The meeting was very successful meeting and was sponsored by the Tigrayan Mutual Association of Chicago (TMAC). We discussed openly and without any reservation about the recent civil unrest and the current situation back home in Ethiopia. After a very candid discussion we decided to have a strong community and to be united as Tegaru. We also were shocked about the agenda of some of the social media so called 'activist' . We recognized the role social media is playing in promoting anti-Tigray agenda. We also recognized the anguish the displacement of our brothers and sisters from the Amhara region has created! We pledged we will never compromise and accept any genocidal movement and that we will fight and defend ourselves. The community expressed its support to those who were displaced by raising funds to be donated. We were able to raise over $10,000 instantly from those who were attending the meeting. We also set up a fundraiser committee to continue the effort with those who were not able to attend the meeting. . Unity is our strength, Tigray Community of Chicago |
