Federal police seizes smuggled weapons (Oct 14, 2012)
The Ethiopia’s Federal Police Media and Communication Department has announced on Saturday October 13 that Ethiopian police in collaboration with regional border guards have seized hundreds of illegal weapons smuggled into Ethiopia from neighboring Sudan.
Federal Police Head of Communication, Fekadu Berhe, said Police "have seized a total of 481 pistols and 13,000 bullets” in Metama town in the Amhara region which borders the Blue Nile state of Sudan. He said a number of smugglers, all of them Ethiopian nationals, have also been arrested during the operations.
Police is undertaking investigations to identify details about the smugglers. The federal police have intercepted large amount of arms of various types during the past few months.
