Elevating Africa to the Global Forum
Press Release:
On The Participation Of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi At the G-8 Summit In Camp David, May 18-19, 2012
We Ethiopians organized under various Civic Groups and different Development Associations and indeed the entire sons and daughters of Ethiopia domiciling in the US have gathered from all corners of America to express our heartfelt felicitation and extend our unreserved support to Prime Minister Meles Zenawi who is joining the leaders of the world powers @ the G-8 Summit to be convened over this weekend in Camp David, Maryland, and graciously say ''Thank You" to our revered PM and his leadership team for a job well done who in unison have elevated our beloved nation Ethiopia and its people to a higher level and status of due recognition and acclaim globally, that it surely deserves.
To-day is indeed a historic day and a unique occasion for Ethiopia which has amply demonstrated that it is no more on the receiving end of the pendulum but an equal partner which decides its own fate by solely determining the path as pertains to implanting and further deepening democracy, good governance, justice, human rights and development.
Ethiopians who are the torch-bearers of the anti-colonial struggle for independence and sovereignty, have again in a renewed sense of commitment shown the world that they are poised to assign poverty, famine and extreme backwardness into the museum of antiquity in the not too distant future by unleashing the Growth and Transformation Plan.
The giant hydro-electric dam with a huge potential of 6000 MW which stands as the first of its kind in Africa and the Seventh in the world is being accelerated around the clock with an outlay of close to five billion dollars to be actualized by the sole effort and capacity of Ethiopians, speaks volumes in the direction of confidence and self reliance of the nation whose battered negative image is surely and slowly changing for the better.
Ethiopia has incontestably shown the world by registering double-digit economic performance during the last decade and currently prides itself as the leading non-oil dependent nation in Africa and as one of the fastest growing economies of the globe.
It is on the right trajectory to muster a democratic culture, long perceived to be the sole monopoly of the so called civilized world as demonstrated by the Federal System it has put in place empowering the diverse peoples to be the master of their destiny and ensuring the equality of nations, nationalities and the multitude of faith that abound in the nation to-day.
We thus would like to re-iterate our unreserved support for the gigantic and irreversible strides being made in all sectors of endeavor by the joint effort of the Ethiopian people and the able leadership of the Ethiopian government spearheaded by our astute PM Meles Zenawi.
We are enthused and encouraged by the political maturity and the level of democratic culture exemplified by our country and its leadership and would seize upon this opportunity to congratulate them again for a marvelous job well done.
