Medrek held a successful meeting in San Jose California..

San Jose 04/11/10 (Aigaforum)- Medrek officials led by Eng Gizachew and Aite Gebru Asrat held a successful meeting with supporters.

The officials which included Dr Negasso briefed the audience on their mission and their take on the democratic process in Ethiopia. Eng Gizachew affirmed his unwavering stand and support to a peaceful struggle. He reminded audiences that his organization (UDJ) was born out of frustration and ineptness of the former Kinjit, which was a collection of different personalities and organizations. He confessed to the audience the reason Kinjit failed. His justification to the failure was because Kinjit was a gathering individuals namely Ledetu, Eng Hailu and Dr Berhanu and not a collection of political organizations as it should have been. When the three could not agree on the future of the coalition Ledetu backed out and the rest as you all know is the failure of Kinjit.

Unlike Birtukan's ill fated speech during her last overseas tour that caused her pardon revocation Engineer Gizachew reiterated his fulfledged support to the constitution. He empasized that change should be brought about only by upholding the constitution and proposing change using the law of the land. He also affirmed his respect to the many nation and nationalities in Ethiopia.

Aite Gebru and Dr Negasso spoke on the nature of EPRDF and on the difference between Liberal and Revolutionary democracy as well as their take on the right of nation and nationalities. Dr Negasso said he will fight for the right of nation and nationalities while recognizing the fact there are others who oppose his stand.

Organizers had hoped for a better turn out but were pleased by the turn of events. Close to 100 people attended the meeting and a lot of Birtukan's pictures were posted all over.

The officials will continue their meeting before heading home to face their luck in the upcoming general election on May 23, 2010.
