The half-day appraisal and evaluation colloquium was held at the Chancery of the Ethiopian Embassy, in Washington DC. today April 13, 2011.
The high-powered members of the delegation reported on the triumphant conclusion of the Growth and Transformation Plan /GTP/confabs held in various venues that drew a record high number of the Ethiopian Diaspora members in the US and Canada during the session Chaired by Ambassador Girma Birru, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extra-Ordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the US.
The Heads of the delegations comprising cabinet ministers of the Ethiopian government and other high-powered members of the highest body of the government echelons presented their respective evaluations of the GTP conferences and hailed the Ethiopian Diaspora Community members for their unreserved readiness to contribute their share to the nation building endeavor currently in full-swing in Ethiopia.
The government officials appreciated and congratulated the patriotic and burning desire of the Diaspora Community to engage themselves in this noble venture which they sincerely believed would usher in a new chapter in the beleaguered history of the nation by positively transforming the nation's image and putting the country on a firm footing enlisting it as one of the middle income nations of the globe in the not too distant future.
During the evaluation and appraisal session, the members of the delegations pointed out to the malicious disposition by few individuals of the extreme and fringe elements of the disgruntled Diaspora and blind-folded by sheer hate and bent upon acts of hooliganism, name calling, harassment and mere hallow sloganeering aimed at blackmailing patriotic Ethiopians and tarnish the image of the country and they aptly characterized their attempt as an exercise in futility.
The Chairman of the session, Ambassador Girma Birru, took into account the observations and feed-back obtained during the discussion and re-iterated his position for the need to uphold and further bolster the momentum of engaging the Diaspora. What is more he underscored the urgent need and correct rationale to actively involve the Diaspora in the new direction of benefiting themselves. This opportunity he underlined will open up new vistas for them to contribute towards the noble effort of nation building and by the same token derive the psychological satisfaction entrenching themselves in a moral high-ground for the enabling environment they could create by extending a helping hand to up-lift their kith and kin through the process of job creation impacting from the spur of sustainable development that naturally ensues.
