PUSHKIN LITERATURE NIGHT MARKED IN MOSCOW

Pushkin Literature Night was marked on February 28, 2011 at Pushkin Memorial Apartment, which is located at the heart of Moscow, with a view to strengthen people to people relations between Russia and Ethiopia This colorful event was organized by the Ethiopian Embassy in the Russian Federation in a close collaboration with Pushkin State Museum.

On the occasion the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Russian Federation H.E. Kasahun Dender stated that Pushkin has been called Ethiopian son and Ethiopians gift to Russia and his Ethiopian heritage will forever remain a bridge between the two sisterly countries and peoples.


Ambassador Kasahun further commented on new conflicting claims and controversy on Ibrahim Hannibal Ethiopia’s identity. He noted that Such attempts have been registered by an African country engaged in re-writing history, which is deliberant distortion aiming to fill in the short of its past history. Above all, Ethiopia is a cradle of mankind. Let alone Hannibal, who is an icon of undeniable link between Russia and Ethiopia.

On this occasion the Deputy Director of Pushkin State Museum noted that this event is a further manifestation of our ever growing brotherly relationship that has its roots in Pushkin. During this ceremony the Deputy Director on behalf of the museum has presented a bust of A.S. Pushkin to the Embassy.

Three Ethio-Russian kids and a student from Moscow State University, who is a Russian played poems of A.S. Pushkin in Amharic and in Russian.

The ceremony was attended by more than one hundred guests including Russian friends of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Diaspora.
