Dr. Yohannes Yihdego gets an Australian national award
The Australian government has given a national award to Dr. Yohannes Yihdego, along with another 99 African Australians last Saturday in Canberra. The awards are given to the most influential Australians of African origin and associations to recognize their contribution to Australia and they cover the fields of medicine, culture, sport, politics, education and media to celebrate the values of multiculturalism, and recognize the role of African Australians as a bridge between Africa and Australia
The event was attended by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and other high level dignitaries. Dr. Yohannes Yihdego Woldeyohannes is one of the leading figures in an international engineering corporation, the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation, where he is a senior Hydrogeologist/Modeller. The Corporation has more than 70 offices across the world, and Dr. Yohannes has been actively engaged in multi-national and international engineering projects in Australia, Kenya, Tanzania, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Mongolia in projects involving water resources, mining, infrastructure, and energy. Prior to his current position he worked with the Australian environmental and engineering consultancies, GHD and Cardno LanePiper.
