Abay Tsehaye, who is presently Security and National Affairs Advisor of the Prime Minister, said the front that was incepted on the premise of the Addis Ababa University under the name ‘Gesgesti Bihere Tigray’ had only seven members and vary primitive armament when it launched the armed struggle in Feb. 1975. The advisor made the statement here on Saturday while addressing an experience-sharing meeting held under the theme: “Tigrian youth in 1960’s versus the present generation”, which is organized for the Tigrian youth, who organized themselves in association here in Addis Ababa City. The meeting was opened after one minute silence held for the martyrs of the bitter struggle. However, he said, TPLF has managed to enable Ethiopians enjoy the fruits of peace and stability as well as a democratic system of governance after paying dear sacrifices during the 17-year bitter struggle. The front has remained firmly committed to its cause despite a number of challenges coming from within and outside the party, he said, TPLF also has a culture of resolving internal disputes only in a democratic way. The youth at present is privileged since freedom of expression is realized in Ethiopia and the country entered into the era of democratic order, which, he said, was non-existent in 1960’s. Abay, who is one of the veteran combatants of the front, called upon the youth on the occasion to play their level best toward speeding up the development of the nation by equipping themselves with the necessary knowledge, and skills. The veteran combatant also gave responses to the various questions raised by the participants of the meeting. ---END--- |
