TDA North America welcomes Twin Cities

(St Paul/Minneapolis) branch.

 (Aigaforum  06/27/09):- Tigreans and friends living in and around the twin cities of St Paul and Minneapolis in Minnesota, USA, became the latest addition to the growing TDA North America chapter(TDA NA). Aite Mulugeta Berhe community affairs and long time TPLF member and Dr Teodros Tadesse TDA NA chair person were invited to be present in the historic general meeting that elected officers from both the young and the old to lead the new chapter. After a lengthy frank and informative discussion and with a pledge from the youth to do all in their power to continue the struggle to uproot poverty members elected Aite Adem Berihue as chairman, Aite Yoseph Abraha as vice chair and Aite Nebyeleul Zegeye as secretary. The youth were also represented in the newly formed chapter board. The youth were elected to lead the public relation campaign.  

Minnesota as a state is a trend setting state in the USA and according to Aite Gebru, an elderly participant in the meeting; it was frustrating TDA NA did not have an official branch for this long. However he was ecstatic to see his community come together and establish the branch despite the nay Sayers among them!  

Members and supporters pledged to do their best to join the ongoing development effort in Tigrai. Aite Mulugeta and Dr Teodros were very delighted by the spirit of cooperation.

Many people thought TDA was a misplaced priority when few started the organization 20 years ago. Today TDA has become synonymous with what exemplary grass root centered development should be. Many international organizations recognize TDA as an exemplary development organization.

Tigrai Development Association (TDA) which got started by Diaspora Tigreans in North America some 20 years will celebrate its golden anniversary this coming August in Washington DC. The event which is scheduled to last from August 14 to 16 will be held on the heels of a very successful campaign that raised funds to build elementary schools within two mile radius in all parts of Tigrai. The project centered fund raising campaign was started by the Las Vegas chapter in the USA. Aigaforum asks all active TDA members and supporters to join and be part of the golden anniversary's gathering in Washington DC. Let us show more than ever today we are committed to win our people’s number one enemy- poverty!
