Ambassador Berhane Gebre-christos, Conducts Bilateral Talks With US Officials.

April 14, 2011- Ethiopian Foreign Affairs State Minister, Ambassador Berhane Gebre-christos, who is in America on a working visit to the United States, held extensive discussions on regional and bilateral issues of common interest with Ambassador Jonnie Carson, Assistant Secretary of State for Africa and other Senior US officials both from the White House and the State Department. The discussions were characterized by mutual understanding wherein both sides agreed to further enhance their cooperation in all areas of common and bi-lateral and multi-lateral issues.

On a similar note he apprised the Ethiopian Embassy staff on his sojourn to America. During this informative session, the Foreign Affairs State Minister briefed the diplomats at the Ethiopian Embassy Chancery, in Washington DC wherein he underlined the need for Ethiopia`s diplomacy to continue to be diversified and multi-polar as Ethiopia has anchored itself on a correct diplomatic trajectory traversing with the multi-fold engagement of bilateral and multi-lateral continental and global ramifications.

In this regard he mentioned that, the central role Ethiopia is currently playing in promoting and advocating African issues, such as on the topic of climate change on the environment and its active participation at the G-8 and G-20 Summits has amply elevated her stature in the continent earning her trust and confidence in its diplomatic engagement globally.

He also emphasized the imperative need for the Embassy`s diplomatic staff to work diligently to advance the interest of Ethiopia commensurable with the extensive and bolstered image it has attained in Africa and beyond.

Referring to the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) that Ethiopia has presently acceded to, the Ethiopian, State Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that by the end of the anticipated five-year implementation contour of the envisioned plan, the country is bound to register transformational economic, social and political gains.
