Ambassador Tekeda presents his Credentials to Mr. Ban Ki moon.

The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the United Nations, H.E. Dr. Tekeda Alemu, presented his Letter of Credence to the United Nations Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, on January 24, 2010. The official presentation ceremony was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Speaking at the meeting, the Secretary-General extended a very warm welcome to Ambassador Tekeda and expressed his confidence in him that his long experience as a State Minister of Foreign Affairs would greatly benefit not only his country but also the UN system as a whole. The Secretary-General also applauded the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Meles Zenawi, for the important role that he has been playing on issues of climate change and commended the Prime Minister for his able leadership in effectively discharging his responsibility as a co-chair to bring the work of the Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing to fruitful completion. He also promised to keep Africa’s complex issues high in his agenda.
At a meeting that followed the presentation of his credentials, Ambassador Tekeda thanked the Secretary-General for the opportunity at the time when Secretary-General was getting ready to depart for Addis Ababa to take part in the African Union Heads of State and Government Summit which is scheduled to be held from January 30-31st, 2011. Ambassador Tekeda also assured the Secretary-General of Ethiopian Government continued support to his and the Organization’s work and expressed his readiness to further strengthening the relations between Ethiopia and the UN.

Mr. Taye Zerihun, Assistant-Secretary-General for the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations, Ambassador Aman Hassen, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia, Mr. Reta Alemu, Minister Counselor and Yoseph Kassaye First Secretary attended the ceremony.
