H.E. Ambassador Minelik Alemu Getahun Expressed his readiness to work closely with the Ethiopian Community in Switzerland

The Permanent Mission of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia hosted a function aimed at introducing H.E. Mr. Minelik Alemu Getahun, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland and other personnel of the Permanent Mission to the Ethiopian Community in Switzerland.

The function was held at the Official Residence of the Ambassador on Saturday 12, February 2011.

At the occasion, Ambassador Minelik briefed members of the Community that Ethiopia has been registering rapid and sustained socio-economic growth. He informed the participants that the Government is now fully engaged in the implementation of the Five Year Growth and Transformation Plan approved by the House of Peoples’ Representatives after extensive consultations with the general public and other stakeholders.  He underscored the importance of the contributions of the Ethiopian communities abroad for the success of the development Plan. In this regard, Ambassador Minelik has indicated that the Ethiopian Government is preparing a Diaspora Policy with the objective of enhancing the role of the Ethiopian Communities aboard in national development endeavors.

Ambassador Minelik expressed his conviction that the community would continue and further strengthen its support to the Permanent Mission in advancing the diplomatic activities of the country. He assured them of his commitment and readiness to work closely with members of the Community in Switzerland in the promoting and protecting their interests.    

Members of the Ethiopian Community in Switzerland warmly welcomed the Ambassador as well as his colleagues and vowed to closely work with the Permanent Mission in Geneva.
