National Protest Against the Ongoing War on Tigray on 2/25 to 2/27, 2021
A call for national protest the ongoing war on Tigray starting from 2/25/2021 to 2/28/2021, in three different locations in Washington, DC.
The Protest is being held to urge the United States and international community to act now to pressure the Ethiopian government to open unimpeded humanitarian corridors, restore communications, power, banking, healthcare, and other public services to all of Tigray, to take measures to prevent sexual assault against women and children in Tigray, commitment to a peaceful resolution of the regional war by all actors involved, and the immediate and full withdrawal of Eritrean forces from Tigray.
On November 4th, 2020, the unelected Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, in coordination with Eritrean dictator President Isaias Afwerki, launched a war against the elected regional government of Tigray. Despite Abiy Ahmedís November 28 declaration of victory, this devastating war continues with no end in sight. The Ethiopian federal government has largely blocked communications and humanitarian aid in the region, over 60,000 refugees have fled to Sudan, 4.5 million Tegaru in Tigray need immediate food assistance, and the war has internally displaced almost 2.3 million people within Tigray. Starting from, February 25th to 27th, 2021 thousands will gather nationwide to protest the war on Tigray and call for the full withdrawal of Ethiopian and Eritrean forces perpetrating mass destruction, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing against the people of Tigray. We the Tegaru diaspora and allies of Tigray urge the United States act now to pressure the Ethiopian government to open unimpeded humanitarian corridors, restore communications, power, banking, healthcare, and other public services to all of Tigray, to take measures to prevent sexual assault against women and children in Tigray, and commitment to a peaceful resolution of the regional war by all actors involved.
