The coming Ethiopian Election will be closely watched by the international community and governments for many reasons. We would like to think by far most of the international community is interested to see the democratic process in Ethiopia succeed. However, there are few who would want the demise of the democratic process so long as Ethiopia does not tip toe along with them. This page will document the well orchestrated campaign that is being waged to derail the election before it gets started. This will help for peace loving forces of democracy to fight these political mercenaries and agents of Ethiopia's enemies.

Adal Isaw October 10, 2009:- Big and small; long-term or short-term; governmental or non-governmental; lets hope that most Election Observers are human do-gooders with unadulterated mission to check the fairness and freeness of a democratic election.

European Union to Send Monitors to Ethiopia Vote, Lawmaker Says
By Jason McLure March 30 (Bloomberg) -- The European Union will send a team of observers to monitor Ethiopias May 23 national elections, amid complaints by opposition parties that the vote wont be free and fair, a European lawmaker said.
Comment:  Ana Gomez is shuttling between Europe and America in search a crowd who can lend her a good ear. The problem is all the ears she is getting so far are the same ears she attempted to hoodwink during election 2005 in to believing their party has won! The poor lady is infected with the same sickness as Dr Berhanu of Ginbot 7 and some of the Medrek folks who have flown to Washington DC in search of cure. The news as you all can read is not about observers but all about a smear campaign to taint the coming election in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian election will be free and fair because over 29 million people are voting and all political groups are campaigning with out any problem. This is fact no observer can deny! Gunmen stop Ethiopia candidates registering-group
Source: Reuters
* Government says most allegations unproven
* Opposition say "manual" tells officials to follow them
By Barry Malone ADDIS ABABA, Feb 17 (Reuters) - Ethiopia's main opposition coalition said on Wednesday that some of its candidates were being prevented at gunpoint from registering for national elections in May.

Comment:  Medrek has one and only one choice to prove its allegation and that is to log a formal complaint with the legal authority! The government as well as the Ruling party must challenge Medrek to log a legal file and investigate the allegation. Ethiopia needs a fair free and peaceful election and no one should be at liberty to dirty, defame and abstract the country from having such an election. .(Aigaforum 02/17/2010)

Ethiopia says "election repression" report lies
* Rights group says Ethiopia repressing opposition
* Accuses West of staying silent to protect aid
* Ethiopia says report based on "fabrications"
By Barry Malone ADDIS ABABA, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Ethiopia denounced on Thursday a rights group report that accused it of cracking down on the opposition and restricting the work of aid agencies ahead of national elections in May.

Comment:  The naked truth is all opposition groups in the country are campaigning all over the country. AEUP and Medrek/UDJ were in Mekelle and Bahirdar recently and Medrek/ARENA was travelling and campaigning all over Tigrai. Where these foreign agents get their news is bemusing...As the Amharic saying goes "terfu kisara nuw" for come rain or shine we are sure Ethiopia will forge ahead with its democratic development.(Aigaforum 01/22/2010)

US concerned at restrictions on Ethiopia opposition
ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA Nov 20 2009 15:57
A senior United States official voiced concerns on Friday about the restrictions on opposition parties and human rights abuses in Ethiopia ahead of elections next year...
"There are continuous reports of human rights abuse," said Wycoff, who is in Ethiopia for an official visit.
The head of Ethiopia's now-defunct opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy, which won unprecedented seats in the 2005 polls, is currently exiled in the US
Comment:  To begin with the head of the defunct or otherwise CUD/Kinjit is not in exile. He is in Ethiopia leading his organization for the coming election. His name is Engineer Hailu. Second majority if not all political organizations that are legal and interested to be part of the democratic process are in Ethiopia and have not said a word about any restrictions. The only organization that is complaining is MEDREK, a brand new organization, which is trying to be heard by claiming all kind of hearsays! We challenge Medrek to show where and when they were restricted! The only restriction they may have faced is by their own members the likes of Professor Mesfin who were summarily removed and fired from Medrek/UDJ and are protesting in front of any Medrek meetings? Go figure! So why blame the government? (Aigaforum 01/04/2010)

Aid groups to probe charges by Ethiopia opposition 21 Dec 2009
Source: Reuters

* Aid workers say government controls system
* Opposition says food used as political weapon
ADDIS ABABA, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Aid workers in Ethiopia will investigate how foreign humanitarian relief supplies are delivered after opposition political parties alleged that their members were being denied food ahead of elections in May.
Comment: The Ethiopian government should take such allegations seriously and persecute those who are knowingly defaming the people's government or the governing party which is doing all it can to hold a fair and free election if the allegations are found not to be true. Medrek officials should not be allowed to throw allegations that will harm and defame the country. If the allegations are found to be true the government should persecute whoever is responsible. Either way this story is damaging the image of the country and should not be taken lightly!...Aigaforum Dec 20 2009

Ethiopian Opposition Says It May Boycott Elections
Oct. 10 (Bloomberg) -- An alliance of Ethiopian opposition parties may boycott elections scheduled for May 2010 unless the government releases imprisoned opposition leader Birtukan Mideksa and others they say are political prisoners...
Comment Dr Merera has transitioned to become the chair of yet another opposition coalition. This new coalition by the name of Medrek is calling for foreign interference in Ethiopia’s internal affairs. The coalition has all the right to abstain from voting or running for an election but to smear the governing party and pressure it to compromise on the constitution is an outright offence.
