PM Abiy and EPRDF Future

Now that Ethiopia has seen a couple of peaceful power transition at the top what do you think about the democratic process and the future of Ethiopia holds? Are you thinking Ethiopia is on the wrong path to becoming a democratic country or the right path?

Do you have hope PM Abiy will succeed as much as PM Meles did or even better in transforming Ethiopia? Or, are you of the opinion PM Abiy will be bogged down in the tribulation of the democratic process unable to fend the headwinds as his predecessor Hailemariam Desalgn did?

Have your say and share your thoughts about PM Abiy and the future of EPRDF!

  1. Very impressive, finally we have a chosen one. God bless our beloved country Ethiopia and God bless our new prime minister, Dr. ABIY!

    • I congratulate you have elected to lead our great nation and bless county and to succeed our previous visionary leaders efforts ,sacrifices this nation and to continue peace, grow and to lead for the people that given you this opportunity, trustand to bring us to unity God will help you to do more things even better.
I wish you God to help you all skills..

    • Selam all,

I think peaceful transition by it self should be given credit to the EPRDF flowering democracy unlike most African leaders who are holding power for ever. Dr. Abie speech was very nice and aimed at uniting Ethiopians. Why he say thank you to his mother and not his father is really odd to me. In order change to come we Ethiopians inside the country and abroad should do our part and it is naive just to expect changes without doing our part.

      • I am Eritrean, and I love to see stone wall between Ethiopia and Eritrea. That is the best wish and hope.
Since we depressed by all means we haven’t had war for the last 18 years.
So if our distance from one each other bring peace, why don’t we leave for ever behind the wall.
I am full supporter of erecting wall between us for ever.

        • I am an Ethiopian who learnt the late high school period at Semenawi Kokeb/ Saint in Asmara. I am too much fond of being integrated and have smooth relationship with our brothers and sisters, specially my classmates.
Keep in mind that Europe has attained its current status after sever blood shade.

    • The best scenario on the relationship between Eritrea and Ethiopia is the current situation will continue for decades to come until one of the governments falls apart. Until then more foreign countries will establish bases in the red sea. As time goes by Ethiopia will be further and further from the red sea and Eritrea. So, does Eritrea from Ethiopia. In the End Eritrea will Join the Arab league and break its relationship with Igad and possibly with the African Union. As a result, the Arab world will extend to the Redsea through Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia. If you do not believe what I am writing compare the Red sea between 2000 and now. With the increasing tension between the US, china and Russia, expect what happened in the red sea after 2000 to double in speed and intensity. I know we do not talk about the real possibility much because we are more consumed by our belief that we are in control of everything, although that is not true. From what I have seen in the past I strongly believe that this is what is going to happen in the future. Not Abiy Ahmed or Isaias Afeworki could change it. It is not because they do not want but it is because they can’t. All the cards are stack against peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Both TPLF and Shaebia are very happy with that because they can’t coexist together and at the same time continue to hold power in Ethiopia and Eritrea. They believe for one of them to dominate the horn region one of them need to be eliminated. They will continue to work hard on that until that happens.

    • Dr. Abiye has a choice to make to either be with us, all Ethiopians, or against us ( with the extreme hateful diaspora and sheabia). He can’t have it both ways.

Badme is not for negotiation! If the Eritrean regime knows about the rule of law then he shouldn’t have dared to invade Badme and Zelambessa. When he first unleashed his army with tanks and heavy artillery in to zelambessa, killing 1000’s of our local militia, displacing another 1000’s of innocent farmers from their home and making the city a ghost town beyond repair and then bragging about it on the national TV how many he killed with no decency of humanity, he violated the rule of law. According to the international law, if a country claims a territory from another country, the way to do it is, to file a dispute and follow due process to acquire it lawfully. There are territories in Sudan that Ethiopia claims to be its own, there are territories in Kenya that Ethiopia believes it is its territory but never went to Sudan or Kenya and killed the inhabitants and forcefully occupied it.
Badme has been under Tigrean administration during the Haileselassie regime for 35 years, under Mengistu for 17 years and under EPRDF for 27 years, adding the number of years it was under Tigrean administration during Menilik, we are talking a Century (100 years). We know Eritrea had no legitimate document it can present to claim Badme, except the judges who were bribed by Egypt to keep Ethiopia and Eritrea at war indefinitely awarded it.

If the Eritrean government wants to make peace with Ethiopia, not only, it should never talk about Badme but it should hand us over Asab that we know it truly belongs to Ethiopia

Badme is liberated by our heroic Ethiopian blood and we will keep it with our blood

We have no benefit for making peace with Eritrea, if at all, we should stay with this no peace no war scenario and keep sheabiy at bay. The current no war no peace is a sanction against Eritrea for its people to revolt against the dictatorial regime and overthrow it.

Soon Mekel will be connected to the port of Djibouti with an Electric train so are the rest of the towns in Tigray.

      • But Agazy is not all Ethiopia or even some of Ethiopia. As such Dr. Abiy cannot be with you and with Ethiopians as well. You are going along the same road the Eris were marching on in the 1980s and you will arrive at the same destination. And this time we will not even shade tears.

    • I read quite few remarks before deciding to make this comment. None of the addressed the points the thoughts the admin wanted to gather.
First of all there has never been any power transfer in Ethiopia for the last 37 years, power has been in one party. Of course party affiliates changed roles at different time, none of them are sitting where they were planted 27 years ago. In that regard the premier position has seen the third person coming to office.
With regards to the comparison that the admin wanted commentators to make, yes one can do that but all the three came in to premiership at different times and thus their successes and failure should be judged in relation to the citrcumstances they will deal with. In my view Meles ruled at the time when things were easy, the iron fist he used was intimidating that people were forced to give up on their rights. But that circumstance created a responsive force that was willing to confront brutality and groups bold enough to challenge such extreme dictatorship started to emerge. The coming into political helm of beloved people like Bekele Gerba started while Meles was still around. Even though they quickly rounded up and rushed into jail, that act had a multiplier effect. Qeerroo was created about the same time while Meles is still alive.
At the time PM Hailemariam took over, these forces have gained ground and the quest for democracy, freedom and inclusiveness was echoed by the ranks especially in Oromia and Amhara region. The arrogance of the government in planning to uproot 1 million oromo farmers from around Addis and the stinky and ugly response by some of the TPLF leaders on the matter outbrusted people’s temper and led to what we saw in the last 3 years.
Abiye is coming into the premiership in the middle of a raging fire. Whether he can maneuver the country out of this fire depends collectively on what his party decides. Like Debretsion said recentl the PM is a messenger and can not step out of the party dogma. So Abiye ha nothing to achieve or lose as an individual. If he mange’s to convince his party to listen and respond to people’s question he will will be remembered as one who saved his country and party and can make name for himself. But if he scums into the arrogance of the TPLF both him and the EPRDF will disappear before too long. It is too early to judge him on these matters; the messages he delivered on his acceptance speech are not very optimistic. He should have said something about lifting the current SOE, it clear that like the Ana Hadas said recently, the SOE is destroying peace and security, not restoring it. He also should have talked earnestly about calling reconciliation conference and establishing an all inclusive government. He also did not say a word about the tens of thousands of political prisoners without whose release peace will not be possible. In general the talk was good but missed out these important issues.

  2. PM Dr. Abiy Ahmed today’s speech was splendid.

    I would like to Congratulations him for this important, nice, compassionate speech; and it shows EPRDF’s new beginning;

Congratulations to EPRDF and all Ethiopians!

I wish PM Dr. Abiy, EPRDF, and to all Ethiopians peace, security, and prospority !

It seems EPRDF is ready to working hard to strengthen Ethiopiawinet/ ኢትዮጵያዊነት:: That is, to me, the most news of today’s speech.

I think all Ethiopians living outside Ethiopia (including strong oppositions groups such as Jawar, G-7, ESAT, etc.) will accept this speech with open mind and heart; or at least they will not get any legitimacy from Ethiopians living abroad if they do not accept Ethiopiawinet.

I think and hope Eritrea will also see a good thing on this call for reconciliation.

Again, my advice to TPLF is that Ethiopiawinet/ ኢትዮጵያዊነት is the only way forward for Ethiopia’s peace, security, and prosperity. And I think Dr. Debretsion should be part of this new Ethiopa’s beginning being in his Federal position (and transfer his new Killil position to other TPLF leadership) — this is of course if Dr. Debretsion and TPLF are in good “friendship” with Dr. Abiy, otherwise, probably good for him and for Ethiopia to go to Mekelle (as intended).

His last message of praising God was very good (in my opinion, next to his strong message on Ethiopiawinet), and I think it will be accepted by majority of Ethiopians as a good sign of restoring Ethiopia’s culture and history of peace, stability, love, and reconciliation between all Ethiopians (irrespective of their religious belief and biher-bihereseboch); and I believe this gesture may contribute in making Ethiopian Orthodox Church at home and abroad one and only one.

The only thing I did not like from PM Dr. Abiy’s speech was, his statement about his mother’s “prophesy” (since he was 7) —- it seems to me that he was working day and night with Qeerroo and other external forces to fulfill his mother’s and other “religious prophets” prophesy (that are circulating around). And I hope and wish I am completely wrong on this speculation.

Peace, Security, and Development for all Ethiopians !!!

  3. When an official of a region who was unable to keep law and order in its region either due to incompetence or part of the disorder has been elected to become the PM of a country, there is truly a serious problem. However, as with authority and power comes accountability and responsibility, I am hopeful that he will be held responsible for things happening positive or negative under his leadership. No scapegoat and blame to be directed at anyone but him and OPDO.

I give him the benefit of doubt even though I sense a serious danger for two main reasons:
    1) The Oromo mass expect favor from him as a premier which he can’t deliver as he isn’t a PM of Oromia which will result in buyers remorse and revolt

    2) The secret force in Oromia to destabilize the nation and had a green light from the regions officials including the premier before his election will be embolden and push for Oromia secession. This will probably results in friction among the different forces and impacts peace and economy in the region and the nation.

    I

    • Dear solomon you are pointing to some thing ‘ unable to restore peace in his region” over and over said by the same men and women. stop this, this saying can justify his incompetence, those who stick to this point are those who were working hard day and night to destabilize the country! second Dr Abiy is no more oromo Leader, he is an Ethiopian! and an Oromo know this very fact. No more like the past, don’t worry man. Suscction is not an agand of Oromo people it is some others! God bless Ethiopia

      • Of course Abiy qualified to be PM because he is Oromo, not because he is smart. Abiy rheto did not safe a single life in Oromia in 3 years? We never heard self-less Abiy jumping to save lives on his region. For me Abiy came out of the blue of a sudden which I believe he is brought by CIA. I do not care what stories you tell me about him on paper. I did not see anything Abiy did in region in the past 3 years. The only time I heard about Abiy is he was promoted in an expedited drama by OPDO to be the PM?

    • false allegation motivated by corrupted mined with tribalism! Having such outdated thinking, you will cannot be part of dialog the nation needs this time. Please be positive!

    • Did I hear you saying mass Oromo expect Dr. Ahmed to favor them? Shame on you really! Oromo never has such mentality at all. the Oromos need justice, fair distribution of wealth and democracy not getting unjustified favors from anyone. The other thing you said also funny one is that about your imagination so called secret force inj Oromia. There is no secret force there! What is existing with no secret is very high desire for equality and fairness. These desires are not secret. Anyhow, the new prime minister is a genuine Ethiopian who has Muslim Oromo father, Orthodox christian Amhara mother, devoted evangelical christian himself, married to Amhara, educated very well, serviced in military overall a God fearing man. Therefore, the man is timely gift from God to save our nation!

  4. There is no question about the need for the new Prime Minister to be successful. Moreover, the reaction from Ethiopians shows that he made a very attractive speech. However, what he did was a speech. There is a big difference between action and speech. The question is what different strategy do you follow to establish democracy in Ethiopia? What different economic model will lead to more growth in Ethiopia? How do you make Ethiopians to believe the country belongs to them equally more than what has been done? How do you establish peace without the emergency decree? How do you bring Eritrea to peace if they ask you to withdraw from Badme first? So many difficult questions are yet to get an answer. Hopefully through time he will find ways to address at least some of them during his tenure as prime minster. However it is important not to over expect.

  5. As much as I liked his acceptance speech, I’m doumfounded by the enromose support from the youth (35-40 year old and younger). Mostly, the support stems from his mention of Ethiopia, it’s unity and God in his speech. PM Abiy didn’t invent these concepts and he ain’t the first head of state who mentioned these words in such kind of speech. Do students in today’s Ethiopia take Ethiopian history in high school?

If PM Abiy doesn’t register measurable progress in the hot areas and n the next couple of months, Things might come back to square one. Quick progress can be registered by setting up a formidable cabinet, lifting the SoE, release political prisoners and opening genuine dialogue with all the oppositions.

  6. Congratulation is in order to Prime Minister Abiy!

A friend while discussing the pros and cons of the then Dr Abiy told me if Abiy wanted the position this much he should be allowed to have it! This is despite all the negative coverage of his becoming. Apparently, Abiy is number one on the list of the most populist politicians Ethiopia has seen in the last few years. Abiy was not the most popular or desired person EPRDF had sought but he is and was the best among the choices. EPRDF has no other choice better than Abiy for many reasons. One, the Oromia youth has been indoctrinated for too long that the Next PM should be from OPDO.
We can not blame them for thinking that way but EPRDF should blame itself for not grooming the best from its ranks to replace outgoing senior leaders. Second, there is a plus to elect a new face since most people are tired of seeing the same faces at the top! Boy was the late PM Meles so smart to see the coming when he instituted the metekakat!

The bottom line now is to respect the process and allow the new prime minister to carry on with his duties.

Now, will PM Abiy stick to EPRDF policies and ideals? I think he will! The guy is very ambitious and he would do anything to succeed. I see no chance for him to succeed without EPRDF support.

Will Ethiopia be more democratic under his leadership? It depends what Ethiopia ‘s enemies are planning for her! If Egypt or the neo-colonialists have their way Ethiopia could be forced to wage war thus all bets may be off. PM Abiy will have the hard time to lead the country without a deep experience of leadership. Hailemariam failed because he could not arrest the early civil disturbance the way PM Meles!

Going forward Ethiopia will be on a much better footing to build on its current gain but it will not be easy. Abiy should try to keep status quo and finish Hedase Dam and pacify the current tension among the many ethnics! Then and only then he can try to experiment new policies. I like his Ethiopian spirit, but, will OLF and Oromo nationalist a.k.a Jahwar and friends like him?

BTW, what was he thinking when he talked about the Ethiopia our forefathers left us? I am telling you the pitfalls for a populist are too many. He wants to talk to the one man government but at the same time told us many Ethiopians bones are buried in Badme! Let us see if Wedi Afom allows him to keep Badme or allow him to pick our hero bones before he hands it over- God forbid!!!. Too many obstacles await him, I will pray for him but so should you!!!!

    • Remember, Eritrea has it’s hero’s bones in Badema as well. The best way forward is to accept the EEBC ruling and implement with no preconditions. After all, the agreement was final and binding! Didn’t PM Abiy preached on ‘respect to law’?

      • In your dreams. Forget Badme, the Red Sea coast has to be restored to Ethiopia. No other nation was known before Ethiopia and its natural boundaries are historically known.

      • Your understanding of “hero” is not like the true heroism as we know it. There has never been a country called Eritrea either.

  7. PM Ahmed preached about the importance of the rule of law and justice. I must say that the speech was very beautiful. However, does he know that his preaching about the importance of respecting the rule of law is a double sword. Ethiopia signed the Algers agreement With Eritrea to accept the verdict of the international court of Arbitration as final and binding. Later Ethiopia backtracked on the agreement. Does he know that the respect for the court of law includes respect for agreements that Ethiopia has signed willingly? If the guy who preached for the respect of the rule of law fails to respect the law that Ethiopian signed for, how will he be perceived by Ethiopians and Eritreans? Samo, Samo?

  8. Abiy is the Obama of Ethiopia, a great orator, with a sound mind. Finally Ethiopia has a leader who is given the benefit of the doubt from all aspects of the political sphere.

    • Obama? If you think Obama is a great person, research beneath the surface of mainstream media and your eyes will open.

  9. What Abiy had delivered so far is HOPE. So was Obama when he was elected. It is ultimately EPRDF rule, but he can make a difference and it starts with HOPE. Inspiring charismatic leader at a top can help. Why can’t TPLF allow such leaders to grow in Tigray and TPLF? Very sad! The people of Tigray condemned to sacrifice throughout history.

    • This is a very vital question! I thought more and more young intelligent politician would spring out from Tigrai following the foot print of Mr. Meles Zenawi but it is not to be. It might mean that the old leadership has not concentrated on this aspect. We used to hear special efforts to get such young people through the provision of better access to better education. My fear was it would be disproportionate with the rest of the country but it is an erroneous thought. They had better start that job of making young men and women be interested in genuine politics and come forward.

  10. Political stagnation could brings either good opportunity for a better future or lead to unexpected consequences of darkness. For many Ethiopians EPRDF become a party which talk too many” but do nothing or too little. People become tired of this unfulfilling promises, maladministration, unfairness, bureaucracy, embezzlement, and corruption. Ethiopia need real change from within. That is what happened and much is expected from the party if they really changed as a group or from the new prime minster. I really appreciate both his speeches and personalities. I encourage the youth within the EPRDF and beyond to create their own history by avoiding the old venomous politics from the generation of the 60’s and 70’s. These “fox’s” who are near to their grave but spewing their venomous hate politics are trying to continue with their destructive politics to discredit the new elected prime minster Dr. Abiy.
It is clear Dr. Abiy is a product of EPRDF and he will follow his party rules and norms, but I do think the party understood that they can’t be in power with the same statuesque, and internal change is a must within the party. Otherwise history will repeating itself and the consequences will unbearable both for the EPRDf and the country. Beside this there is a dynamic power shift within the EPRDF coalitions. It is unwise to think that this power shift will not bring political changes. Certainly it will bring changes, but the anticipating change should not be expected only from the party in power. All stake holders have a responsibility to participate in helping and shaping the political process of the country. I am optimistic our country will go in good direction. As Dr. Abiy said in his historic speech we should avoid hate politics we advocating almost for the last four decades, in particular the old. Either zip your mouth or change your attitudes, even though it is hard to do so!
Last we should not expect a positive reply from those who are barricading in Asmara! Even now they are pessimistic and addict with the word “Woyane”.

I hate the notion that to be a Prime minster he/she should be from this or that ethnic group. I hope in the future the party should think seriously about this issue which is a dangerous criteria. No matter from which ethnic group, merits should be a criteria to choose the future prime minster. However taking in to considerations the 27 polarized ethnic politics the appointment of Dr. Abiy is the right choice.
I said this because firstly, if not Dr. Abiy OPDO will not have a place in Oromia politics. And second it will be the end of EPRDF and the fate of Ethiopia would have been in grave danger. Thirdly, the appointment of DR. Abiy will ease the political uncertainties in some of our Oromo brothers and sisters, and it will create a sense of Ethiopiawinet. I truly believe that in future Ethiopia contemporary politics, if we do not considered population size in power sharing, our political uncertainties will continue to challenge us and we should be open in dealing with this objective reality. It will be hard in Ethiopia to change the ethnic politics implemented for the last 27 years and if possible it will take considerable efforts and need to get approval from our diverse societies. I said this because under EPRDF there are tangible socio-economic as well as social, and cultural developments take place (even in polarized politics and political uncertainties) that satisfied large sectors of the Ethiopian societies.
Last are we expect a positive reply from those who are barricading in Asmara! Even now they are pessimistic and addict with the word “Woyane”.
May God help the new prime minster to think positive, have patience, wisdom to fulfill his dream to make real change in Ethiopia!

  11. I congratulate pm abiy for his success pm Halemariam desalng and I believe he have the best speech he can offer ,but having the countries many problems that are facing ,good speech is not going to cut it.the country is a big trouble from un employment,to corapution to term oil different people has different agenda from foreign agents to working on the behalf Ethiopia enemy .the new pm must go back and learn in each step how pm meles handle every suitation and made poverty a single Enmey of the country .as far as the peace as invitition of oppositions ,he should be aware who is inviting for is he worried about jowar Mahamed or birhanu nega here,I would like to conved my massage to him not to let him self to these sold out people so necareful and try to finish 2gdp

  12. Is He Going To Be Another HMD The Woyane Stooge Servant. My Million Dollars Question Is ,,* How Is He Going To Tell The Woyane T.P.L.F. To Get Out Of Badmme. And What Is He Going To Expect In Return From Mighty Of The Horn Shaebia.

    • Mighty? hahaha you just talking about a Mafia governing the Eritrean ppl. Badime is my blood, my Ethiopia. period.

  13. Let’s wait and see how then rest of Ethiopians will act starting now. I wish the best of luck to all people who are honest and fair.

  14. This shows Woyane has changed the history of Ethiopia for good. Power is attained by election and election only and the aim is to serve people. EPRDF won again, Esaias lost forever.
Esaias will never agree to make a dialogue. He intentionally started the war to divert the question of constitution and election in Eritrea to stay in power.

    • The two countries went to war because they could not resolve their difference through dialogue. After all the loss of life and destruction of property, they rested their case thru the international courts. Tell me know, how are you expecting to go back to dialogue? Just respect the rule of law and what comes next will be a matter of dialogue. Do not try to put the cart before the horse.

    • Mr. Tesfay,, History Will Not Lie. You Can Rewrite As You Wish, But The Truth Is There, You Can Not Twist It. Ask The Serounding Of * Adi Murug, Zallambessa, The People Over There Can Tell You, Who Started The War. After How About Retired Colonels, Generals, Will Tell You The Real Story. Good Luck Bro.

  15. Thanks to God, now God give us great leader for our great country your excellency PM you goanna be a leader of peace, love, prosperity and unity movement

  16. Dear Aiga, I am laughing at you. I have to be honest with you. Ethiopia will be in much worse situation. Abiy is set up by CIA. He is going to be a puppet CIA. According my analysis, Abiy’s ascendance to power is like a lightning is scary because as we have seen all the drama and we have seen how USA actively working with Oromos during the protests and how Oromia was rocked with protest, murder, beheading, chopping, burning, road blocking, … which USA came out to defend opposing state of emergency? Abiy stayed away from the voting the state of emergency by the order of CIA and Abiy could not even save a single life in his region when most non-Oromo ethnics were attacked in his region? Why Mr. Abiy could not calm his subjects killing, beheading, burning spree in this region for 3 years? The answer is simply Abiy is the head of Keero which is an OLF. TPLF , ANDM, and others are now thrown into the dustbin of history. Aiga, I am sorry, there is in it for any Ethiopia except for OLF. The rhetoric is rhetoric to realise his vision.
If I was to advise Tigreans, I would say end no peace no war with Tegarus in Eritrea and open Massaawa, Adulis, Assab for business and get ready for all scenario taking into account:
    1. worst scenario
    2. Best scenario.
I have no clue who Abiy is . I just do not know him. But the way he run to be a PM is worrying and I believe with 100% hand with the speed we saw and with USA directly meddling in Ethiopia. Even Mr. Cohen knew three months ahead Abiy will be a PM? How did Mr. Cohen know three months ahead Abiy will be a PM? I never heard of even Abiy before I heard it from Mr. Cohen three months ahead? What did Mr. Cohen know? Well we advises CIA operatives in Africa. He has first hand information. Why did Diaspora accept Abiy? well, they know .
I would just sit down with Wedi Afeworki and free the Tegarus from no peace no war and open the business. TPLF has put Tigreans in the worst scenario than ever before. Meles Zenawi destroyed TPLF and took it to his grave whith him. He left of-handed. He destroyed Tigreans for his personal greed .
    Anyway: I would be on guard and prepare for all scenario ;
1 . Ready for worst scenario
    2. Ready for best scenario
    3. Ready for every scenario. And work for future lasting and durable solution because coexisting with people who threaten your survival is not possible. Exit is necessary for for sake of safety and security. I am not saying bad. I am saying if your house catches fire? You must have an exit strategy. You can not stay in the burning house by hoping the fire will not exist. You must ready to exist if the worst scenario happens.
Aiga and Tigaionline, you are a liability for Tigreans. You have been fooling and manipulating TIgreans and exposed them to all the dangers that exist. You people heavy burden to our people because you think you know how the world runs, but you do not and you have weakened and disempowered TIgreans as TPLF idd.

  17. The truth when it comes to the peace between Eritrea and Ethiopia, PM Ahmed please do not waste your time. It is destroyed beyond repair. Badme has become the Golan heights of Syria. As soon as the war ended there was a chance to repair the relation between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Now with the presence of Ethiopian opposition groups in Eritrea and the Weakening of TPLF in Ethiopia, there is no way peace will be rebuilt between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The only hope is to maintain the uneasy peace between Eritrea and Ethiopia to continue, may be forever, because I do not believe Shaebia policy will change in the near future and Ethiopia will hand over the land of Badme and Eurob to Shaebia. Even when that happens what will happen to the thousands of Demhit, OLF and Ginbot 7 foot solders in Eritrea? This is a lost cause that may one day take both countries to the Drains. The relationship between the two people has been destroyed by design for ever.

  18. Congrats to Dr. Abiy, EPRDF and the peoples of Ethiopia for getting this going. Numerous brilliant personalities have lost their lives and limbs to get this going. It ought to likewise be specified that Metema isn’t the only history made conceivable through the sacrifices of numerous splendid fighters from Tigray. I feel this was not given due consideration in PM Dr. Abiy’s inaugural speech. I don’t know where this trade off will end!

  19. The speech new PM Abiy seems good and I hope he has thé chance to implement the law of accountability and responsiblity in the country. so congratulation to all ethiopians and EPRDF.But do Ethiopia needs attractive speech or attractive fundamental action, time will tell us. As to the Tigary people, need and deserve Peace, security as well as the avoidance inequality , for the rest people can manage their problem by themselve as the late prime minister Meles. Finally I wish a new Peacefully era for Ethiopia.

  20. I wish him to manage the all current crises! However, to manage that he needs more knowledge! Knowledge of the sociology-cultural economic history of the country. Knowledge of the fake News that lead the crisis via SOCIAL MEDIA! AND ESAT. so much more!
as you read your historical background, he has been doing certain Fictitious History, Fictitious Bibliography. But you have to know that fictitious thing could never solve Ethiopian Problems.
hatred speech, ethnic clinician, ethic violence have been the simplest events that seam legally allowed but nationally and internationally issued crime. However, they are acculturated in the last 3 years. Now, Dr. Abiy is advantageous by the evens. However, he never addressed to the martyrs who lost their live to Destroy the Butcher Mengistu H/mariam and create this democratic culture and and those who have killed by the revel groups that course him to stain power. However, he has killed his time addressing his family, his mother and parents.
the current situation is difficult to be resolved by such a little man!!!

  21. I don’t have much hope on Abiy. It is true that he is not the best within the EPRDF circle by any measure. The way he assumed the top post was not also democratic. First, Abiy and his colleagues forced Muktar Kedir (the x-president of Oromia Regional State) to relinquish power. Second, he became prime minister of the country because EPRDF couldn’t contain the street violence in that regional state. His election can be seen as a reward to all destructive forces, including the so called keerroo. Third, Abiy was indifferent, or he himself might have been part of the problem, when it comes to the security threats. He did nothing to stop the widespread violence in his constituency. Finally, many Ethiopians (leaders) are indeed good at delivering beautiful speech. Abiy is not exceptional here. His rhetoric is nothing, if it is not translated in to action.
Abiy didn’t bother to mention the name of Meles the genius even once, during his inaugural speech. His motive was clear to everybody: he wanted to garner support from the toxic diaspora and some narrow nationalists at home. For sure, he is the most populist. He may be an opportunist as well.

  22. Change is always good. It is time that we see change in the country. We shouldn’t rush to judge him. He has good brain and positive thinking. A leader who gives education priority is always good. we have to ask ourselves what percent of 100 million peoples of Ethiopia are educated and understand politics. So lets wait and see. I am happy to see change. We also need to understand he can not bring peace and democracy alone he needs the people of Ethiopia to be behind him and support him. It is also one step that we saw peaceful transition is possible in our country. What we need is equal opportunity for all Ethiopian, to be treated equally and justice for all. It is about time that we stop beating the drum of ethnicity and think of one Ethiopia. We need each other to survive. We are one nation and one country. We don’t have another country. Lets work together and grow together. I am happy for him and he has a lot on his table. May God help him. Peace to our country.

  24. I have an arithmetic problem:
were not these gentlemen prime ministers?
    1. Aklilu HabteWold
    2. Endalkachew Mekonnen
    3. FikreSelassie Wogderes
    4. Tamrat Layne
    5. Melesse Zenawi
    6. HaileMaryam Dessalegn
why the truncated number or am I missing something??????????????

    • all prime ministers including the missed one from your list were not head of State. Head of State & prime ministership started from the 5th one on your list. It is not arithmetic but the power quality makes the difference.

  25. It is a great day for Ethiopia! there is no question that Ethiopia and Ethiopians need a change. A change which is a transformation not a revolution, for the price of the later could be too much to bear considering the vast social changes that this country has gone through over the last 3 decades. The transformation can only come from EPRDF, and there seems to be no one better fitted than Abiy to do the job. My advise for those who are accustomed to amass all the powers in the country is that, he would be also the best that can happen to you as well if you are not short sighted. I also believe that he is the only way to save EPRDF to stay as a viable political party. Therefore, let’s all embrace this guy and help him succeed. He looks to have a heart which is good for all. His success is Ethiopia’s success.
    God help you

  26. First of all I would like to congratulate PM Abiy Ahmed on his appointment to lead our beloved Ethiopia. Second of all, we now need to stop lecture him from distance and speculate whether he is a capable of leading his country. He has a vision and let him go and express it. As a society what we should do is support this young leader in his endeavour to better our country. Ethiopia and her people is his priority not Eritrea. Change starts from with in not from the outside. In fact, PM Abiy has sent out a clear message to the Eritreans that he is ready to talk- loud and clear. The rest is up to the Eritrean leaders. For Ethiopians at the moment, the priorities are our peace and reconciliation among us. We need internal peace more than anything. Our people should be able to travel from North to South, and East to West of the country freely, with out any fear in order to put bread on the table for their family. This will bring confidence to the public. PM Dr. Abiy, mentioned and promised to address many issues and I will go touch every one of them. However, one keynote speech from the PM I would like to mention is his focus on the need of quality education. If PM Abiy and his new cabinet manage to address this issue promptly and implement it throughout the country, there is no question that the new generation owe it to them as well as to the country’s progress big time. Almost all the nation supported the election of PM Abiy so let us stand beside him. Instead of being pessimistic , let us be optimistic and help this young leader to achieve his goal the best we can regardless of our political stand and the narrow party politics.Let us put our country and our people first!

  27. What I observed from his speach is- sign of Wisdom and humbleness. Meles was intelectual. But ignorancy and arrogance behavior was the negative side of him. That’s why posetive and negative side reflects on the country existence right now.
This man looks positive persenality with mixed race and religious family. Which is good for impartiality attitude. But the big question is does he will have personal decision right as leader of the country? ????????
Us we saw in the past experience – H Desalegn wasn’t that much had self decision right as Meles. Does Dr Abiy get different opportunity than X PM HD?
Second the Ethiopians problem is too far from EPRDF principle. The constitution and policy on Eritrea. If not amended this two issue the big and final uprising is to come on the next election. He can do nothing specially if the two old “ignorancy and arrogance” behaviour holders Sibhat and Debresion on throne in the leadership of the country. It’s not the matter of Chairman….

  28. Finally, we have an Ethiopian Prime Minster at heart and we are pleased to see the end of a generation that was obsessed with self-hatred and foreign worshiping and that wanted to renounce self to re-create Ethiopian in the image of Stalin, Chines or Red Army

Finally, after 45 years of darkness people have to touch and shade tears to see someone love Ethiopia and beyond his or her primordial tribal affiliation. Time indeed heals and Ethiopia is out of the hand of the cannibal generation. A guy who is now in the early 30s called me and told me he cried Abiy’s speech over the radio. He didn’t know a lot about Ethiopia, he was born in Asmera before he was deported in 1991. This boy had something in his heart when he was probably 6 or 7 how Ethiopia should be loved and respected and I guess when he heard it for the first time he cried. God bless Ethiopia.

  29. EPRDF is getting stronger than ever. It is day light fact that energetic and better leaders are emerging out of it – out of EPRDF, not out of the vacuum, indeed. But this is half way to meet the assignment. Set aside enough financial budget to build knowledge based institutions to ensure good governance!!!

  30. the bottom line is that TPLF is losing the ground and power is on its way out from their hands. tplf thinks it is paying time but in reality they are on the verge of collapse. Then eprdf together with the said prime minster will be history in due time. not reform but radical change is what the people of are fighting for.

  31. TO ME ITS ONLY tplf who has to change those old gurads to the new one.arkebe was million times beter than Dr,debretsion .why cant he leads the party just wondering?. tigry ppl, deserves better leader than Dr,debretsion .
Look at those TPLF leadrs still the same (aboy sibhat ,abay tsehaye ..etc they r old they should do something else )

    • I agree 100%. Some of The old guards of TPLF must step down. They are safocating the political process. Some of them like Arkebe are moving with the world but some of them are nothing other than either they are so old to the political system or just get As after they read a text book and when the text book is not there they are nothing. Look at “Dr” Debretsion. Follow his answers and the if he is making any substance of any sense whenever he opens his mouth. The worse thing is some including Aiga wants to call him Dr. Debretsion, strictly. Even Aiga and all Tigrai medias like to call the Dr. For Nothing 100% of the time as “Dr.” Debretsion but Aiga even did not put the “Dr.” Prefix when it comes to PM Abiy, according to strict rule of Aiga and others was not he supposed to be called PM Dr. Abiy? Debretsion was asked many times about his education many times about his education, specifically at Horn Affairs, it shame this guy to say “yes, hahaha I am very good at my education…”and in other many interviews. He did not get a slight maturity from his education. He did not, will not understand education means nothing but “change in behavior” What if a journalist from the BBC interview him??? Oh God save as from this happening !!! TPLF must learn from OPDO. Getachew Reda, Arkebd Eqbay, Abraham (Dr.) will do 100% better than Debretsion. My mistake a 5th grade student will do better than Debretsion. Aiga & others would say “it is just a speech problem” NAY MIZRAB KIELET TRAH DYU DOCTORKUM ZEYBLU??? MENM ZEYFELT ZEYTEKEYERE ETRO GABIR EYOU. HZBI TIGRAY AYTEADELEN.

  32. I read all the comments, and found out that some are encouraging and some seem to carry doubt. I like to point out that, in spite of the opinions, I think it is important to keep hope and become optimistic about ones own country. I have no doubt, if people understand and respect each other, I do not see why people should not work together in unison to bring about relevant changes to their common interest and to their own country. So first, let us be optimistic and not be disempowered by our self-doubt. second let us not restrict gazes of other optimistic people from what is possible in a better world. I think the changes that are happening now in Ethiopia, including the smooth transition of power portends and reflects understanding which will eventually develop into mature and progressive ideas that will take and leapfrog the country economically, politically, and socially. I see future Ethiopia from onwards a country of prosperity and exemplar, as has always been in so many ways, to Africa and beyond. This is not, on my part, wishful, but given the right conditions, atmosphere, more importantly peace, it sure can be materialized. So my friends, and all Ethiopians, my advise to you and specially to those that carry negative and self-doubt, have confidence and positive attitude of having to conceive the will-happen mind set. Then you will also find yourself part of a solution in one way or another, directly or indirectly. As for me, mark my word, Ethiopia is on the right trajectory and will catch up with the developed countries sooner than anyone can think. Take care

  33. TPLF NEEDS TO GIVE UP ITS PLACE TO THE NEW GENERATION .LOOK NOW DEBRETSION ? NOT FIT .TEGARU HAS A PLENTY TO FILL TPLF POSTS .THE NEW PM ,I AM OPTIMISTIC ,HE MAY CHANGE THINGS FOR GOOD .GIVEN ALL EPRDF MEMBERS RENDRED FULL SUPPORT ,OTHERWISE IT IS GOING TO BE THE END OF EPRDF .

    • Listen Abraha. I think this is one of the very backward, toxic, and venomous politics from the 50s and 60s. Your politics is always hatred, enemies everywhere, and so on but you do not understand and will not even if u have to live for the next 100 years that change is always there, now politics means “democracy, election, education, exchanging information between OROMOTAY, AMHARAY, TIGRAWA, AFAR etc Not between Atse Yohanes, Minlik, Tewodros, etc TPLF-EPRDF has created the new Ethiopia with the young equipped with education not with HELIK. The only reason the Quuerro changed into destruction was just because of people like u at the top of the power try to answer questions from the youngsters by force. I have the following question for Mr. Abraha and the likes… if OLF or Mr. Jawar can lead millions of oromo from the U.S. why is the reason the OPDO can NOG do that??? I mean make the Quuerro movement and youngsters their own movement??? OR make them the Woyanay/OPDO movent the only reason of answer is just because people like u who see any opposition as an enemy r at the top of the power then instead of organizing Quuerro and make the young members of OPDO they alienate them. I am sure if Mr. Lema or Mr. Abiy get the opportunity they will make the Quuerro their own supporters if people like u, specially in the TPLF like debretsion becomes an obstacle to Lema or Abiy. 36. …. looking at the face of Dr.Abiy , I see a reformed ,reborn EPRDF… & I think situations in the country for the new PM will be much mercy full & easier than they were for the last PM Hailemariam or the late PM Meles for that matter . Let us wait & see.. and be very hopefull…

  37. I believe we have a winner. This fellow is another Meles Zenawi. It looks like the vast majority of Ethiopians like him. That is what matters at this moment.

  38. Dr. Plagiarism gets elected new prime minister. It’s amazing how much he lifted from Dr. Kissinger’s book. A friend of mine was gushing to me about how Dr. Abiy speaks fluent Amharic, Oromigna and English. And how smart he sounds when he talks. I was like, “Hmmmm! How much do you really know about Abiy Ahmed?” I proceeded to show my friend how much Abiy Ahmed plagiarized his responses from Henry Kissinger’s book. Needless to say, my friend was SHOCKED! Shocked I tell you.

I want to give Dr. Abiy a chance but I really don’t respect a man who cheats just to sound smart. I understand he is young and all, but still. It’s not cool to plagiarize like that. I feel like the country could have done so much better. But it is what it is.

    • people are inspired by reading what is wrong with quoting someone here and there. This is not something particular about the new prime minister all leaders are measured by how much they gained from the exercise of readingአቃቂር ማውጣቱን ትተን አወንታዊ ገትታዎቺን ማበረታታት አየሻለም-

    • Abraha, it is NOT uncommon or not a crime or not a sign of inept for someone to follow and inspired by someone’s speech, specially in politics. How about the following info: Abiy did his research in his birth place about conflict & security and change science into practice by going to his woreda and sat down with the elders and apply the science and solve the problem. Change what is in textbooks into practice. Emo Debretsion DodiA Yibelts A ab Bet Tmhrtk F ab tegBar???

      • Nayhasab Lielina: On this issue I am with Abraha; we Ethiopians have whish PM Abiy and EPRDF (under his leadership) nothing but to succeed — for the sake of Ethiopia and Ethiopians; otherwise, regarding your point of “his PhD topic”, to me he was worried about him being a “Dr.” (hoping it will help him for his political career, and it did) while his Killil (Oromia) was under chaos for the last three years; and had he learned anything from his PhD thesis how to solve conflicts he could have stopped the problems in Oromia long time ago; in fact, to me, he was working day and night (with Qeerroo and other internal and external forces) to fulfil the prophesy of his mother (as he told us yesterday in his beautiful acceptance speech) and other “Christian Prophets (you can see a couple of video on this)” that — he will be a PM. PM Abiy said, his mom knew since he was 7 that he will be the PM of Ethiopia (if I understand his speech correctly).

  39. As the saying goes a well informed pessimist is an optimist. I am an optimist he will not walk the talk because there is nothing from his CV to substantiate his performance as a leader. Preaching and leading are quite different

  40. Remember Tigray people,
Abiy appointment to the PM is not the lasting solution for all ethnics of the country but a temporary bandage to hold the shacking trees across the country and provides ample time for the wise leaders to plan for the next move.
This man deleted his biography 52 times in Wikipedia and he told the world his mom is from Amhara, now she is oromo ?
The other most disturbing is he arranged an interview to depict himself as intellectual elite and he pre-arranged interview and knew all the questions ahead of time and researched all the answers from Dr. Kissinger the 19th century foreign policy and affairs expert and lifted paragraph by paragraph without changing any word .
You can see the video the Amhara extremists and Eritrea posted a new video as PM that is Plagiarist Prime Minister, a liar in chief, you can’t trust a liar, once a liar always a liar, it is a habit, he should apologize to the Ethiopian people.

    • The most scary people for me is those who sugar coat . Let us wait and see what he has to offer. Then we take it from there. I do not care if he is Oromo or alien as long as he does the right things.

  41. WIle this is a great start and a new chapter in Ethiopia; Ethiopians from all walks of life must stand behind the new leader in order to overcome the obstacles that lay ahead.Very often we forget to realize despite Ethiopia’s effort to make good on the diplomatic front there are those who don’t wish her .well.1-There is a developed world out there that is so eager to keep the status quo where it is in control of the economy and the third world at the receiving end using all means to advance its goals.2-There are also countries in Ethiopia’s neighbourhood that wrongly believe that Ethiopia’s progress is against their national interest.3- Last but not list you have the social media that spreads all kinds of fake news to destabilize the country-Ethiopians should wake up and say no to all those adversaries and stand the new leadership., Racism, and bigotry should be banned by law and those who advocate them harshly punished. This is the way forward Long live the people of Ethiopia long live the people of Africa.Like always Ethiopia’s leadership is vital to the whole of Africa

  42. Another brilliant move by Genius EPRDF with its card to bring Abiy to the helm for its survival and Ethiopias.Part of the deep Tehadso ,I believe which started with release of all prisoners etc. Brilliant because it puts the current Oromo extreme in an awkward position .What is the deep seated agenda here? Pro Unity or Anti Unity A foreign force behind it or not?.I want to be the Silent Watcher .Fascinating times Ahead.

  43. I have seen the ex prime minster of Ethiopia meles zenwi !who has done his best for newly built Ethiopia ! every body should remember the interest later then turned to beg to transfer power peacefully & the party (eprdf) decided to continue his as premire of the country!! he was the person who can change his promises to practice!!!But the new prime minster who gives trash evidence in the time in which the state of emergency declared by house of representative ! he is preaching about unity (addition) but SOE was one measure to resolve the conflict that arise here and there but he failed to support !so he is a good orator only !this is also nothing for unity(medemer )

  44. I am bemused by those who try to paint the event as a loss for TPLF/EPRDF, I think if anything it is just a triumph for them. You can actually notice from the live transmission of the power transfer how the old TPLF guards like Seyoum, Arekebe and Dr. GTSion were elated and how ex-PM HMD was jubilant. Many think PMAA came to power because he has garnered support by igniting fire aka Qeero, but I think this doesn’t hold water as EPRDF wouldn’t have bowed for such intimidation, to the contrary I think PMAA is able to assume the power because out of the present EPRDF leaders Lemma or PMAA are the viable options. I actually expected Demeke to resign too as he was part of the PMHD administration, he is equally to blame for leadership failure, thus the competition was between Lemma-PMAA-Shiferaw Shigute, so the rise of PMAA is no surprise.

As to his speech, I think we listen what we want to listen. Yet compared to PMMZ and PMHD, PMAA is welcomed by overwhelming opposition voice, he should maximize on this opportunity, unlike his predecessors he is lucky to receive such welcoming vibe. If PMMZ and PMHD brought such immense change with constant negating voices, PMAA is expected to go even beyond what they managed to achieve. But for Woyin this is her fruit she should be proud.

  45. Like all of you, I like to congratulate PM Abiy Ahmed.

Here is my take: a) it is a good start for EPRDF to elect a willing leader. Dr. Abiy as most of you mentioned is a man who wanted this position and that is very good. That means he knows what it takes to do the job. As young leader, he can also be instrumental in changing the status quo thereby motivate young intellectuals in the EPRDF circle to run for the position within their parties and the country. I am hoping that will transform EPRDF. b) He along with many younger leaders in the EPRDF are understanding the need for creating a conducive political atmosphere that is inclusive. This is a key to our stability. The Oromia issue can’t be resolved by EPRDF’s reform because opposing ideologies are involved. The Amhara movement won’t subside because of the election of Dr. Abiy because there are many political actors on the ground. The dissatisfaction of the Tigray people and others won’t be addressed by EPRDF no matter who leads it. Therefore, the only solution for Ethiopia is for the reform minded EPRDF leaders to create a genuine democracy where every political party will have equal opportunity to participate. c) There is so much hate in our politics. Dr. Abiy sounds the man who can talk tolerance and brotherhood via reconciliation. All opposition forces, including Ginbot 7 should be invited to go to addis for a peace and reconciliation. I don’t believe there is an Ethiopian political party with the purpose of destroying Ethiopia. If there is reconciliation and genuine democracy, I am convinced that everyone will take part.

The Eritrean issue should come second after addressing our own, and there is no fear of external powers if we are in peace with ourselves.

  46. Yes, hopefully Dr. Abiy will systematically lead to Make Ethiopia Great Again, as he spokes indirectly at his inauguration time!

  47. Abiy seems to be a naïve Menilik admirer. He shocked millions of Oromos for admiring Menilik repeatedly. This will instantly isolate him from Oromo youth leaders and our popular politicians like Jawar. It seems his inaugural speech was directed to Amaras and Tigres rather than to Oromos and other oppressed nations. I’m disappointed by this guy. The revolution will continue with or without him . THe only thing we need him to do is lift the state of emergency. We will bypass him if he fails to do so.

  48. I congratulate Dr. Abiy Ahmed on his election to the premiership of the FDRE and wish him all the luck in his future very difficult and challenging job. I listened to his inaugural speech last Tuesday in the Ethiopian Parliament which I found very promising provided off course that he could translate the beautiful wards into deeds. I believe he must be given the chance and adequate time to prove himself that he has the competency and the maturity to lead the huge and complex Country of 100 + millions Ethiopians and that he would be able to become the Prime Minister for all Ethiopians.
    May God bless Ethiopia.

  49. I am Eritrean , i congratulate Ethiopians for the new prime minster, the young leader remind me of Obama ( based in his first speech). My advice is not to waste time to try to engage dictator Isias afeworki, unless the new prime minster is willing to withdraw from Badme.

  50. I can see a bright future for Ethiopia and EPRDF. However, the principle of EPRDF democracy, development, and peace focusing on fighting poverty must be sharpened. PM Abiy must show his dynamism on translating it to reality uniting with the many on common agenda and solving differences through dialog and contention of ideas. Wish PM Abyi success

  51. I am Optimistic by the appointment of Dr. Abiy as a PM but unless he gets full independence as a prime minister nothing is going to change . I fear that there are powers in Ethiopia that won’t give him full independence :
    1. Corrupt officials in the government who have amassed so much wealth do not want change as they will be held accountable . Instead they will force him to follow the so called ” group leadership ” that has been practiced in Ethiopia for almost 27 years now
    2. Parasites of the corrupt officials – there are millions of followers / supporters of the regime in Ethiopia who are attached to this corrupt officials in the government or either are rewarded financial as well as other assets like land, condominiums do not want change again as they will be held accountable.
    3. Prison officials who are running a Nazi like torture chamber: It is not a secret that prisoners are tortured even killed. The officials running this prisons have had no accountability to anyone even to the courts. They don’t want change as they have blood in their hand.
Group number 2 will also be liable for evicting people from their land, homes and even for jailing and killings by government agents . These group of people , especially the parasites have done so much damage to the regime. I know some of them here overseas . They were recruited to support the regime but their objective is to just amass wealth, with no use to the regime. They live in developed countries washing dishes but they boast about their wealth in Ethiopia.

I think Ethiopia is stuck – there are probably a dozen corrupt government officials, but unfortunately because of these corrupt officials and their parasites the people of Tigray are seen as enemies by other underprivileged people. These are the same people who have surrounded the current prime minister , directly or indirectly . They don’t want change and I don’t think Dr Abiy has so much power unless these corrupt officials and their parasites stop their cycle of corruption . But the corruption has so many tentacles feeding millions of parasites . What about the killings, tortures..and injustices that has happened for so many people not because of hate but to continue the corruption in the country ? I think the only solution for Ethiopia is reconciliation and forgiveness including accountability or else Abiy won’t have any power to change ethiopia for good

  52. I am glad to see the end of TPLF with out much blood shed. The new PM spoke of our bonded history- Amhara to Kara mara, Oromos to Adwa. That son of devil, melese, he disconnected us. I recall him telling us what the oromos has to do with axum. Sad he could have seen this day of Ethiopiawinet if he was alive

  53. Congratulation to Dr. Abiy. He desserve to be the leader of Ethiopia. And in many ways he is by far better than the late Mr. Melese.
I am so happy, EPRDF didn’t choose Ato Shiferaw Shegute, whom could not lead properly the Ministry of Education. And most of all, Shegute has no his own stand point. But just a condom for some of TPLF gangsters, like Abay Tsehay and Debretsion and alikes.
I hope Dr. Abiy includes in his come cabinet, like Dr. Arekebe Equbay from TPLF, Ato Negussu from ANDM, and Ato Redwan from Debub, a smart personalities whom can lead the country at this modern era of the world.

  54. I congratulate Dr. Abiy as Ethiopia’s new PM. I am confident he will be impartial in his governance, and I am confident he will use his constitutional authority to the fullest.

Having said that I want to point some misrepresentation of facts. Eisa wrote, “ I think peaceful transition by it self should be given credit to the EPRDF flowering democracy unlike most African leaders who are holding power for ever.” That is not an honest statement. PM Hailemariam is simply a condom and is a PM in name only. We know that, you know that..It is no good to be hypocrite. Our problems worsened because of lie and lack of willingness to be forthcoming to solve problems like this person. Sure EPRDF deserves credit, especially the rank and file foot soldiers but there is plenty EPRDF spoiled that need fixed for the next one century

The visionary leader, Meles created biher-bihereseb system of governance and party system, and developed “Tigray Only” mentality which is now backfiring. It is now clear that the chance for an intelligent Tigre to be a PM is permanently sealed as a no situation case in the existing system. Only an Oromo or Amara ethnic member can do it. It is straight forward in that game rule of Meles. This was not what Amaras want to happen. Amaras fought against Haile Selassie simply to give away their parents land for the oppressed although in return they got persecution, eviction and death.

The general principle for a minority leader in power is to make democracy practical and design a system in which extraordinary people from any ethnic group can be PM. For that to happen, a multi-ethnic party system is the only path. Tigre intellectuals are now in chest beating mood. Actually it is not the TPLF fighters that do not want democracy in Ethiopia. It is the Tigre intellectuals who live in the western world that do not want democracy for Ethiopia although they are the beneficiary of democracy in the west. I applause Dr. Debretsion. He is a reformer. I heard him saying, “It is not right to think and speak we Tigres fought the Derg and won, and we alone get the greater share of Ethiopia’s resources.”

Not all Tigres but only Tibitegna Tigres are the sources of all evils in Ethiopia. Meles is the head of that Tibit philosophy that blinded him to the extent of giving away Ethiopia’s sea outlet. Now we pay 2 billion dollars for port service per year and not only that, our security in the red sea zone is at stake. all this happened simply because Meles hates Amaras for no reason. No single Amara went to Mekele to open a shop. In fact Amaras are the vehicles for Tigres to come to the rest of Ethiopia to live and make money. Is there an honest Tigre intellectual to see this? . Yes, but only Gebremedihin, and two other guys who I read their article on Aiga Forum website.

  55. EPRDF has once again proven that it has the capablities and experiences to truimph over challenges ; and as well , assured Ethiopians that Ethiopia isn’t a Banana Republic and Eprdf isn’t a House of Cards. It has been and is in good hands to be rest assured of its hopes and vision to continue unabated as well if not better under the premiership of Abiy

  56. EPRDF does not exist from now on. TPLF should have purged ANDM and OPDO from the agents of G7, OLF, Egypt and Shabia before the voting for the PM /chairman. TPLF should also have stopped the election process when Demeke suddenly withdrew as candidate and offset the balance in favor of Abiy, the opportunist who co-organized and led the bunch of unemployed kids called queero in order to save himself and his friends from being purged from OPDO for being corrupts, traitors, and tribalists. There was no reason to rush to vote when the playing field was purposely changed suddenly like that after the Demeke intentionally withdrew his candidacy. I think TPLF’s new leaders were either naïve or they were secretly cheated by the traitors in OPDO and ANDM who were plotting for it for a long time probably with the help of HMD to land us in the current unstable Ethiopia that is hanging on the precipice. It is fishy to see pentiew HMD pushing for pentiew Abiy unless they were up to something sinister orchestrated by our external and internal enemies. This should be investigated very quickly and action taken to reverse the damage thereof.
TPLF is the essence in and the force of EPRDF, in the face of that reality, we shall see what those traitors like Nigusu, Gedu, Lema and Abiyot will do when and if TPLF pulls the rug from under their feet provided TPLF itself is not infiltrated by them. Getachew Asefa should do his home work from now on and forge strong relationship with the Armed Forces leaders. I was happy to see the graduation of new intelligence leaders recently. Never give chance to traitors like abiy to destroy Ethiopia by openly betraying the legacy of the father of New Ethiopia and the liberator of Nations and Nationalities of Ethiopia, PM Meles, and instead publicly admired the mass killer of oromos and breast amputator of Anole, the nafxania Minilik, the original traitor, literally the brother, role model or father of the new traitor in aratkillo, terawetader Abiy.
Hailemariam should have stayed in his place until the next Gubae.instead of what has happened.. He is probably blackmailed by the Oromo protest leaders like Lema and Gedu in the absence of TPLF support. This should never happen again! And I think we need to have a better chairman/ new PM in September after the clean up of EPRDF before and after the coming general assembly /Gubae unless Abiy stops being an agent of those who dream to dismantle TPLF?EPRDF. Let us give Abiy a chance to become the defender of the legacy of the great leader, PM Meles Zenawi, otherwise he should be kicked out very quickly and even arrested and tried for treason for organizing the queero whose dead he used s as stepping stones to enter 4killo.
    God bless weyane and Ethiopia!

  57. Abegaz,
U like or NOT the BeherBireseb is going to be there as far as time eternity. U might curse on Tigre million times but it is just natural to be yourself. I have auditory nerves in my ears, u have those nerves in your ears too, Oromo has them too… all human beings naturally have auditory nerves inside their ears, the nerves are exactly the same in all human beings but these all nerves DO NOT work the same in all human beings. All auditory nerves in the world do not listed Amharic. Even if it is extremely hard for a chauvinist person to grasp it, nevertheless, what Weyane did was this natural staff. For centuries Ethiopia was prison of its own ethnic groups but all fought for their basic, GOD given right for centuries but the Tigrians with the help of progressive Amhara, progressive Oromo, progressive Afar, progressive Benshangull, progressive Hadiiya brought an end to the oppression. That is what happened in Ethiopia. Again u like it or NOT the other ethnic groups Iin Ethiopian are going to protect this right forever. ይኸንን ተፈጥራዊ እዉነታ ኣሜን ብለህ ተቀበለዉ።

  58. He is good catch in the eprdf arena. I think there are many such talents within EPrdf who should be given a chance to lead the nation.

  59. USA asks Abiy to remove SOE? Why? USA demands speedy reform ? why?Why is USA involved ? Ethiopia Banana republic ? Why is USA meddling from day one? Something deep fishy has been going on?

  60. Dr Abiy has delivered a good speech that any Ethiopians coming from different corners cannot criticize or oppose the content of his speech. The prediction of how he is going to implement good democracy & governance has a lot of uncertainty due to the complexity of Ethiopia politics in the past 26 years. Especially EPRDF top leaders like Melese & Sebhat did a lot of blunder on most of their speech usually deliver to trigger anger on the majority of the people who listen to them, this was a reflection of their arrogance. In Politics not only action, the speech is also important to get trust and confidence in the people. Meles did a good contribution to the economic growth but none of the speech did have a strong tone of nationality and respect to all in common ground.

  61. I think the biggest losers are we the Oromos who had lost thousands of our youth for change only to bring a nafxania admirer to beta mangst by steeping on our dead body. I do not trust this guy, he betrayed TLF after all these years, he will betray even the Amxara tribalists l who are rooting for him because they knows he is one of them and not an Oromo. No oromo muslim becomes a pente. That says it all. The struggle will continue, and the good thing now is that most Tigrens are wide awoke sensing their nafxania mortal enemies are back in Mnilik beta mangist.
Tigres and Oromo should never have missed the opportunity to forge strategic relationship for their struggles are identical.

  62. Hope springs from faith and love. Both faith and love are innately expressed through one’s living act. For those who know Abiy personally his characters are very far below stately stature. Delivering a speech is one thing. Authenticity and depth of the being of that tone & note of the speech is another thing. It is not that Abiy will stumble in the democratization process. It’s the inner being of Abiy that will determine his contribution. Aigaforum is obsessed with Meles’ legacy to the extent of being blind of Meles’ contribution to the current quagmire, least of all he cribbled TPLF to the levels of Haleka Tsega and Abay Woldu’s levels.

Abiy is not new to EPRDF. Along with Lemma and Demeke and co. they have created an Ethiopia intimidates and kills innocent Tigrayans and EthioSomalis. People wake up. Aigaforum wake up. Expecting hope from Abiy and Demek’s platform is naive.

    Egiabhier mis hizbi Tigray ykun.

  66. The reason why HMD failed was not because he lacked good intention but he never had a full grasp of power and he was not able to penetrate through rank and file of EPRDF. EPRDF lead government is so divided , the security and the military generals hold the power base and unwilling to respect the power structure of the federal government which lead to chaos and anarchism for the last two years. I am afraid no matter how democratic and a person with good intention Dr. Abiy might be , if the military and security is unwilling to obey the constitution and stop serving to keep the interest of certain groups ,his dream will collapse and he will follow the same path and share the same fate of HMD .
Dr. Abiy, should make clear to the old guards that he will not follow the same path his predecessor traveled and keeping the statuesque is not an option. He has to change the whole approach , devise his own way to get out of the current quagmire and completely replace those who are not or not willing to follow him.

  69. A hell of parochial sentiments reflected in most of the articles in this website show what level of intellectual culture we have reached. With this mind sets, bet, poverty and bad governance would prevail in the country endlessly. Like it or not, we are our own enemies for not learning from our history and the open world as granted to us. With all his qualities and humanly limitations, Abiye is an Ethiopian with every right to ascend to the level he is now. He has really done it! To be sure, a lot is expected from him than ever before he has come up to this demanding post. The more he makes efforts towards systematic changes in the political, economic and legal institutions in a way that they create fields in which all citizens run with minimum or no impediments to win their daily lives, the less would be the burdens to shoulder.

  70. Guys as tigraway let’s just work all together to demand the substitution of his excellency Dr.debretsion with Dr arkebe equbay, or Dr, tekeste Abraham. We are becoming the laughing stock of the new Ethiopia.wit all due respect and admiration to those old guards,it’s time to exit. It’s the time to give the torch to the new blood. Dr,debretsion, aboy sight and bitew belay.. etc..please million people are laughing at you guy’s.. You guy’s sound as of living in another planet. Please… Please… Please. Step a side. Enough is enough

  71. TPLF/EPDRF is now being forced to leave the stage. This should have happened much earlier. Squandering national wealth, ethnic division, and most of all unimaginable loss of lives as result of war with Eritrea en ethnic clashes are issues which will remain engraved in our memory as features of Weyane ‘s era.
For those of you who still feel that you have an axe to grind with Eritrea :
wake up,………..fool you twice shame on you.

  72. Abdela (Kahsay)

When King Minilik says ,” gallam bihon sEw nEw”: he meant to say even if not a Christian. You are not insulting him when you quote him like that. At that time being Christian was the preferred norm within the ruling class. King Minilik insisted fair treatment of humans despite not being a Christian. At that time our great king Yohannes thought the best way to unify Ethiopia is to turn Muslims to Christians. In that doctrine, he went to Harar and killed thousands of Muslims who refused conversion. He also went to Wollo and killed many Muslims. Amaras never wanted to build monument for the loss of wollo Amara lives. When Minilik became king of kings of Ethiopia, he made a proclamation for every Ethiopian to retain their/her own religion and see each other as citizens of one nation and live in harmony. You see the superior mind of Minilik? He thinks like 21st century man. That was the time blacks were treated like animals in America. But you Tigray intellectuals (not ordinary Tigres) think like medieval period warlords in 21st century. You come to the west and speak English and make your children to speak English. You do not complain for this; but you complain for speaking Amharic coming to Amara land. Language is not an issue for Amaras . They can speak any language. They mix with anybody. You guys are unable to do that. You think you are the Jews of Africa. For that reason biher-bihereseb is your every day crying slogan. Come on, change your attitude. Believe in hard work; compete and make money like the gurages of old Ethiopia; believe in individual rights than in collective identity. The Tigres I know in the past (pre 1991 A.D.), were hard workers, yet most nowadays (after woyanes came to power) insist to gain by cheating and favoritism. Worst you act like beasts toward other Ethiopians. If Ethiopians demand equality, freedom and democracy you kill them like animals. You do that coming all the way from Tigray after you asserted in your doctrine that Amara land is for Amaras, Oromia is for Oromos. This is a contradiction to your doctrine. If you do not like our request and do not like with equal status, all you have to do is to pack up and go back to Tigray, and not killing us.

Having said that I have not lost hope on my Tigre brothers and sisters since I see reasonable voices coming out recently. With the election of PM Abiy, I sincerely hope our wounds will heal and we can live together in peace where everyone’s right is respected, and people are equally treated.

  73. I am happy with the peaceful transition of power
Let us support the new government and let us all stand for one Ethiopia
    Long live Ethiopia!!

    Tesfay (From Tigray)

  74. One of the Question of instability in Ethiopia is the high unemployment of the youth and specially the University Graduate . I believe this can be alleviated by opening up the Agricultural sector to employ millions of youth. . It is fact that 85% of the arable land is not utilized in Ethiopia and under the Auspices and direct Control of the Federal Government if this idea is launched and if Share holders can be organised to fund this Farms from the Urban Middle class and high Class and if thousands of Modern Equipment of Farms like Tractors bulldozers are availed for these youth along with land that could be utilized by irrigation and other wise it could ignite many towards this Project

. The World population is exploding and there are countries who can afford to pay who need food these Countries should be idenitfied and Cash Crops and other could be exported There could even be ways that this countries could finance this Farms. Cities could be formed along this Farms. I believe the Current Government could work this along this line I believe we will be ok

  75. At least he abandoning the invisible agenda of Oromos! What I mean for invisible Oromos agenda. Oromos came up with different agendas. They tried to expand their territories toward other regions. They have unsuccessful plans to split Oromia map from other regions. Oromos rebel must come home. From there he will be a great Prime Minister like Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. Long live EPRDF!

  76. It is sad to see a gallant front that has accomplished a lot deteriorated this fast and succumbed to intimidation and blackmailing. The passing of PM Meles has damaged the party. Meles was no angel but also no one is. He nonetheless has done a lot of good things. His successors in EPRDF particularly in TPLF have done a lousy job. We should wish success to the new PM, no doubt, for the sake of our country. Yet, we should not lose sight of the fact that he is installed because of the Oromo region protests. One of the Oromo leaders in the recent peace conference unequivocally stated that if Abiy had not been elected, the land would have been lit with fire. Here you have it. What a sad statement! I did not know all the protest was waged to have an Oromo PM. The ‘activists’ are now demanding that the PM fires all security, military and other high ranking officials which they deem unacceptable. I am all for accountability but not by ‘activists’ with a remote control. For those of you, who might think, I am some hard core supporter of TPLF, I invite you to read my commentaries I wrote in the past.

  77. Only a new EPRDF with a new name, structure , ideology and operational method in the place of the current one ( which has its origins at the time
Ethiopia was disintegrating not uniting) would do the miracle and solve the
crisis and break the vicious circle.
The problem is how the current EPRDF originated and metamorphed thru
time. It was all a default mode or riding with some of its wheels out of the rail
causing it too much exhaustion and loss of energy along the way. For some
reason the leaders held on to it even though they saw signs or knew about
it and its journey……always lagging behind even behind its opponents train.
The only mission of EPRDF at this time should be to kill/ finish its opponents
( the CUD & derivatives ) and then kill/ finish itself for the rise & with better
future Ethiopia as a country. Then a new party forms out of the winner orgs.
the EPLF, the TPLF & the APLF in the right order of their seniority in the struggle
over the Dergue as Republicans with a republican agenda all their origin and
history based on Ethiopia or that extends to the Ancient Ethiopia.
On the other hand those late comer to Ethiopian union or history the OLF, ONLF
& SLF can for an opposition party to challenge the Republic & republican party
by rallying for democracy and thru democratic opposition calling themselves as
    Democratic party of Ethiopia.
    Hence the moving gets started……………>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Note :
APLF = Amhara People Liberation front formed in 1989 previously ANDM.
SLF = Southern Liberation Front…previously SEPDM.
Others it is obvious to All.

  78. We Need Pure Election Not Hand Picked CIA Or Woyane. The Postest Will Start Soon. And Woyane ( T.P.L.F.) Must Go Back To Tigrai & And Let The Oromo, Amara,Tigrai, Ogaden, Benishanul & Gambella Decide Their Minister By Voting. The Tigriayan Armies Must Be Disovled & Construct New Armies From Every Ethnic Ethiopian People. With Out These , We Are Going Back To Square One, Which Is Violence & Protest ( Killing & Burglary) Business.
