World
Bank Says the truth about Ethiopia
Dr. Ismail Gorse 1-27-15
Professor Alemayehu G Mariam wrote an article that he is
criticizing the World Bank that praises Ethiopia has reduced 33 percent of
poverty since 2000. As one
of Ethiopian in Diaspora who follows the writings of Dr. Al I could not figure
out how on earth that he is against anything that put Ethiopia on the limelight
or map. Does he know that Africa is moving in the right direction and
surpassing in terms of growth the European in the last five years and Ethiopia,
Ghana, and South
Africa are the leaders in this economic prosperity?
We are in an era that the world is questioning the inequality that
exists in the planet. China, India, Brazil and Russia are challenging
the Western in cooperating and collaborating with Africa. Africa is not the
land where you can exploit its raw material, but a home of close to one billion
consummers and the fast economic growth in the last decade.
Last week, one of the leading writers in Western world stated that
the architects of the crisis-ridden international economic order are starting
to see the dangers in the west economic system. It’s not just the maverick
hedge-funder George Soros, who likes to describe himself as a class traitor.
Paul Polman, Unilever chief executive, frets about the “capitalist threat to
capitalism”. Christine Lagarde, the IMF managing director, fears capitalism
might indeed carry Marx’s “seeds of its own destruction” and warns that
something needs to be done.
He added that the scale of the crisis has been laid out for
them by the charity Oxfam. Just 80 individuals now have the same net wealth as
3.5 billion people – half the entire global population. Last year, the best-off
1% owned 48% of the world’s wealth, up from 44% five years ago. On current
trends, the richest 1% will have pocketed more than the other 99% put together
next year. The 0.1% have been doing even better, quadrupling their share of US
income since the 1980s.
Moreover, Alemarian
argues that Ethiopians have been the object of a cruel bureaucratic joke by the
World Bank. Last week, an official investigative report surfaced on line
showing World Bank bureaucrats in Ethiopia have been playing “Deception Games”
of displacement, deracination, forced resettlement and a kinder and gentler
form of ethnic cleansing in the Gambella region of Western Ethiopia. Tens of
thousands of Anuaks in Gambella have been removed illegally and in violation of
policy from their ancestral homelands and left high and dry and twisting in the
wind, courtesy and cash of the World Bank!
He has distroted information that the socalled
human rights and NGO's are entertaining in what is going in
Ethiopia, however, he is far from reality in general and what EPRDF has achieved
in the last two decades that they have been in power seat. Having closed your
eyes on the reality at the grounds , Al will not bring solution and perspective
to the oppositions that are competing with EPRDF in the upcoming election ,
but he should advise them
to come up a program that will surpass EPRDF in terms of its economic
achievement, security, peace and
prosperity than sleeping in a bed with the rogue goverment in Eritrea that is
the source of 1000 refugees a month. Then and then only one would challenge
EPRDF in the political arena, the rest of brouhaha is the old music that
mayhem, chaos and misery of old Ethiopia that he left 40 years that ESAT and
ErTV are bombarding and recycling as if they would get to the
Aratkilo.
