IT IS HIGH TIME FOR THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL
TO REIGN ON THE BELLICOSE AND NEFARIOUS

One can surmise and indeed succinctly argue that today, the single most, cardinal issue that has captured unanimity in its entirety by summoning onboard Africa, and indeed the world at large, a rare commodity in the global political and diplomatic market; is the clarion expression of concern and worry against the broad daylight acts of brigandage and wanton destruction unleashed by the Eritrean regime.
This wicked measure of vandalism corroborated in no uncertain terms by its actions has been the unabashedly shameful and a perfidious act of destabilization in the horn region and beyond, decidedly and flagrantly championed by the hooligan Eritrean leadership in Asmara.
The despicable and notorious thugs at the helm of the political power embodied in the miniscule nation of Eritrea, have brazenly and blatantly exhibited contemptible posture by confronting militarily all the neighboring countries in a futile bid to demonstrate their paper tiger macho stance and shadow military prowess to the demise and ultimate disaster of their tiny nation.
In a futile bid which is as a consequence of its self-delusionary military adventure, the military junta in Asmara has amassed close to half a million conscripts in the hills and valleys of Eritrea.
This scheme is a smoke-screen to hide its blatantly fragile posture. It demonstrably stands as an apt corroboration of its true self, ie., a hopeless nation that is under the radar screen of humanity that has gathered ample evidence of its violation of international norms and generally accepted standards of morality. Ethiopia has been consistently alerting the world of the satanic deeds of the regime in Asmara.
The Ethiopian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs went on record only recently by exposing the Eritrean regime at the summit of the helm of the Security Council by amply telling the august body to decidedly stand in and swallow the bitter pill and declare its verdict by stating that" the Sanction Committee should ask itself why so many countries and their sub-regional organization are in one voice appealing to the Security Council to help them stop the Eritrean leadership from pushing the region into a more and more dangerous situation.
The brinkmanship and irresponsible act of the Eritrean regime, it should be noted, is sweeping the region into a scenario that could be imbued with outlandish consequences that could imply doom and gloom. The Security Council has the historic duty of accountability and leadership requisite to hold answerable and reign on the regime to desist from its dastardly adventures.
According to the recent report of the Somalia-Eritrea Monitoring Group, a UN Security Council sponsored body said Asmara's continuing relationship with Alshabab, tutelage of Al-Queda appears designed to legitimize and embolden the terrorist group which functions in cahoots and sync with the lawless regime of Eritrea.
Unable to cope up with and shoulder the harsh repression and draconian rule unleashed by the regime of Asmara, braving mines, electric barbed-wires and “shoot-to-kill- on-the-spot” orders by the country’s Gestapo, Eritreans of all walks of life in their thousands are flocking to neighboring Sudan and Ethiopia crossing the borders and risking their dear lives.
They even try to traverse across the vast terrain of the North African desert and the red sea by succumbing to perilous sea voyages often culminating in cap-sizing boats spelling horrifying closures.
It is an open secret that, Africa after having patiently tried all diplomatic and peaceful means to advise Eritrea to stop its unwarranted meddling, intervention, provocation, open hostilities, arrogance and out-right contempt to international, continental and regional organizations and respected leaders, has finally passed a series of resolutions.
Those decrees were to the effect that the destabilizing acts of Eritrea should be halted and all necessary measures be effected to deter such manifestations prompting the UN Security Council to react accordingly in the not too distant past.
It is against this stark backdrop that the Ethiopian government has recently designed a new Eritrean policy to effectively thwart all acts aimed at destabilization and other related terrorist moves against its people and the current multi-faceted development ventures.
Unfortunately this policy has invited disdainful opposition perpetrated by the rogue regime of that country in concert with fringe elements of the dying extreme Ethiopian opposition.
For all practical purposes and intents it is plausible to argue that Eritrea is one of the most militarized nations, vis-à-vis its miniature budget and scanty population, , has literally halted all and sundry attempts to allocate any budget towards the much needed alleviation of the dire economic prerequisites that it badly craves for.
It is for this very rationale that the regime clings to power by condemning the Eritrean citizenry into grinding poverty in direct contradiction to the hard won gains it had achieved by paying dear sacrifices and overcoming critical challenges and surmounting mounds of anguish.
Whatever development aid it acquires and money it purportedly gets through illegal laundering, black market combined with direct financial contributions from ruling party supporters and the imposition of a Diaspora tax, an illicit and illegal measure unheard of in international norm and practice is channeled towards bolstering and beefing up its singular military muscle.
This act is carried on with the express and clear mandate of maintaining the status quo and keeping in power perpetually, the police state of president Issayas Afewerki and his orchestra extend support to recalcitrant elements in the whole East African region with the aim of creating havoc and destruction.
The world and indeed the UN should act decisively by concluding that it is an exercise in futility to resort into a carrot and stick policy as pertains to Eritrea. That is why, the East African group of countries, and the AU and the UN Security Council are ardently wielding the stick.
This sends the message that Eritrea needs to desist and refrain from its evil acts of destabilizing the region by abetting, supporting and harboring international terrorists and wayward regional extremist cohorts and fringe Diaspora extremist elements.
But the UN Security Council should do more and should not be deluded by temporary appearances, provisional make-believe rhetoric by the regime and must pay heed to the behavior and true nature and defining character of the government in Asmara by effecting commensurable and appropriate measures.
The uncompromising stand of the UN Security Council should unambiguously send the real message short of being exposed to the hoodwinking tactics of president Issayas and his orchestra by meting out sanctions against the regime, which has eroded the confidence of its people and is seen as an international pariah.
