Priority misplaced says Dr Kofi.

(Aigaforum 04/05/10)- Dr Kofi wrote a letter to Trans African Forum one of the hoodwinked sponsors of the upcoming conference on the horn to be held in Washington DC. Since then Dr Kofi has received few emails from the extremist. One particular email got his attention and wrote the reply below. Ethiopia’s transformation cannot be hidden anymore! No matter how much the defeated nay Sayers from yesterday defame the country Ethiopia is moving forward! Thank you Dr Kofi!

Your email below has failed to impress me when viewed from the problems facing our people and their countries in the horn of Africa, especially Ethiopia and her sister Eritrea. 

 

Your timing in mobilizing the forces in America to bring about a change in the horn of Africa is also misplaced, especially in Ethiopia where an Election is taking place next month to bring about democratic change in the very country you hail from. 

 

Instead of you joining one of the 56 or so political parties contesting for the powers in the country, you are diverting the attention of the Ethiopians and the world into a program that should be done after the election in May 2010.  A program that can be used as a yard stick to measure the progress of the party that wins the May 2010 election.

 

You told me that you do not belong to any of the parties.  Your priority is misplaced.  This is the time for you to belong to a party that you believe in and sends them support in whatever way you can. A wise man Minge Negash, Professor wrote:

 

Finally, please also note that the conference will also be addressed by distinguished scholars and civil society leaders from the rest of Africa.  The conference participants would also be keen to learn how countries such as Ghana succeeded in making speedy transformation from dictatorship to democracy

 

When the same situation in Ethiopia happened in Ghana, groups of Ghanaians in different parts of the world, in USA and others, including myself immediately affiliated with different political parties in Ghana and pressed and got our concerns in the platform of our party. This is what you should be doing instead of assembling eminent scholars who may have no clue what the real politics in Ethiopia is all about. 

 

Instead of you mobilizing those Ethiopians in USA who share your concern and getting serious with the people at home to influence them, you are beating the bush in America where problems facing our people in Africa were resolved over 200 years ago and it appears that they never had such problems in America. 

 

I am not ashamed in writing to demand non Ethiopians to stay away from your supposed conference because your timing of your conference is misplaced and I am advising you to do whatever you can to assist is the democratic process going on in Ethiopia.

 

The US State Department is asking all governments in the world to adhered to democratization process or face the wrath of international condemnation for not towing to the principles of civilized societies in the 21st Century: Election as a means of changing national leadership of countries that profess to be democratic. This is what Ethiopian government is doing and I will support the government's efforts in bringing about such a process. Ghana has done it and all the other African countries can do it.

 

Permit me to say that "Africa is the Africans; those at home and those abroad".  One day the children of Africa used by Europeans will come home to build Africa for all of us for none of the countries in Africa can develop properly without the Unity of Africa and the African people in the formation of the United States of Africa; a condition which most of our leaders have taken for granted but the government of Ethiopia has championed and is on the right course in making all Africa stable through the formation of a more powerful government that which can emulate the Founding Fathers of America who dared to write the following in 1776:

 

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,[1] promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America".

We all know that Africa has the resources both material and human but none of the individual states or countries has it all. It is going to take great leadership like the Founding Fathers of America to devise a system to help us and our posterity to live a life that God has endowed us as a people living on contiguous lands. The sun will always rise from the East to the West and ETHIOPIA SHALL ARISE through her sons and daughters despite all the current problems.
