Ethiopians worldwide raised funds for Mekelle Public Library!

(Aigaforum 05/03/09): -Ethiopians world wide raised close to $55000.00 US dollars to help the City of Mekelle build state of the art library.

During the weekend marathon online telethon, sponsored by gezategaru online discussion forum, supporters worldwide raised close to $55000.00 US dollars. Donations came from all walks of life including people within Ethiopia. Leul Ras Mengesha former Tigrai governor gave his blessing to the project and donated financial and moral support to the project.

The mayor of Mekelle Fesseha Zerihun in an online interview at gezategaru pal talk room officially sanctioned Habbo project fund raising campaign. The mayor promised the city government help all the way to the end and also announced that the Tigrai regional government is fully behind this project. The city has already identified the lot.

The fundraising will continue all over the world until the total sum ($300, 000.00) is raised. Iyassu Berhe renowned artist and businessperson said he is fully behind this project and will use all his power to raise awareness and organize fundraising campaign within Ethiopia.

Project Habbo started when Ethiopians in Germany went in force to lobby the city of Tubingen to select the city of Mekelle as sister city when they heard some anti peace and former Derge remnants in Germany were lobbing the city of Tubingen not to establish sister city relationship with Mekelle.
