What the world communities should know about the war in Tigray BY: W.Yilma April 9/2021 Since Abiy Ahmad Ali came to power, it is hard to record how many times he and his cohorts lies, not only to the people of Ethiopia, but also to the international communities. There is not a single day that Abiy refrain from lying the public. What we know about him is that he is not consistent, and not the man of his words due to lack of knowledge and absence of personal integrities. What is Abiy regime different from his predecessors is that he himself and his entire staff, including his naive supporters, living inside and abroad are well organized to fabricate and disseminate false information to the public. Because of his background working as a security agent, and his Prosperity Gospel belief, Abiy is very effective in convincing people’s minds even they knew that he lied them. He speaks not what he will accomplish, but what his audience like to hear, even though he knew that he will not accomplish what he promised. What is strange in today’s Ethiopia is that his naive supporters too also want to hear what they want to hear, not what actually Abiy can do. It is not my intention to indicate here how many times Abiy has lied to the Ethiopian people as well as to the world communities. My objective here is not to talk about Abiy’s lies, but to give my account on the Tigray war, who started it, who are behind it and why. Right after Abiy declared war on the people of Tigray, November 4/2020, the propaganda campaigns are intensifying through his mouthpiece’s media outlets with the aim to mislead the Ethiopian and the international communities. According to Abiy and his cohorts, the war in Tigray was started because “TPLF was attacked the Northern Military Command”. But this accusation does not hold water and does not help them to justify their genocidal war crime committed on the people of Tigray. Similarly, some are trying to find an excuse by saying that the reasons why the cruelest, and looters of Shabia foot soldiers, and the Amhara “Hutu” militias are involving in Tigray war is because “TPLF has fired a missile to Asmara, Bahirdar and Gonder cities”. Unless they considered that the world communities have a “short memory”, this accusation also not true. I will raise few points which I truly believe that the main causes of the war in detail later, but with regard to the involvements of the latter two unholy actors, the Tigray defense force has fired a missile towards the above 3 mentioned cities only week after the Amhara militias and Shabia foot soldiers are openly and actively engaged fully in the war alongside with Ethiopian defense forces. These unholy allies, together with the Ethiopian government amassed their fighters in four different fronts three days before the start of the actual war. In fact, the role of these two criminals’ groups in committing atrocities against the people of Tigray is by far greater than the crimes committed by the so-called “Ethiopian defense forces”. Unless it is self-deception, the war in Tigray is a result of three years preparation both by the unholy “Trios”, Abiy, the Amhara elites and Isayas of Eritrea. The Nobel prize is not an award to bring peace, but a pact of war agreement between Abiy and Isayas to conspire against the people of Tigray. What should be clear here is that it is Abiy and Isayas who deliberately created the current situation in Tigray to happen. This is because, first for Abiy and Isayas, creating conflict is a means of survival to stay in power, and second, they have deep rooted hate against the people of Tigray, and the reason why they declared war to revenge not only the TPLF officials as they both claimed, but also the people of Tigray.
As we know, war does not mean that two parties are fighting using firearms. The war of words, blockades of roads, unstoppable hate propaganda campaigns against the people of Tigray by the government and its private media outlets supporters, suspension of all budget supports to Tigray from central government, including those subsidies to be spend for health services, and direct support for the needy people is also considered an economic war. When Abiy understood that these measures do not bring the intended results, he decided to declare all-out war on the people of Tigray. The war in Tigray is a war that does not have a clear objective and any kind of law of war and rules of engagements in terms of the weaponries’ used, the actions and the behaviors of the invaders towards the people of Tigray. The war declared against the people of Tigray is the first in its kind in the history of the modern world. No country in the history of the mankind invited and paid foreign mercenaries to kill and destroy its own citizens human and material capitals. This is because since Abiy came to power, he knows that unless he eliminated or totally subjugated TPLF he will not consolidate his power and install one man rule in Ethiopia. To this end, for the last three years, Abiy together with the Eritrean president and with some Amhara elites intensively working hard to prepare for war. Below, I will try to mention few of the speeches made, interviews given, and discussions held by Abiy and his cohorts how they targeted TPLF and the people of Tigray. When the people of Tigray show resistance to all kind of impositions, Abiy chooses destruction and rushed to waged war against the people of Tigray. 1. Abiy propaganda campaign in particular against TPLF and in general against the people of Tigray has started right after he came to power. In particular his propaganda campaigns have intensified after the bomb attack in June 26, 2018 at the rally organized in support of his nomination as a prime minster. As many people recalled, Abiy with no evidence has rushed to blame TPLF by calling “yeken Jibotch”, which means a day Hyena. However, the FBI has confirmed that there is no TPLF involvement in that incidence. After this incidence, unstoppable and intensive propaganda campaigns spread against the people of Tigray. TPLF has singled out and blamed for all wrongdoing that has happened for the last 27 years. The other 8 former EPRDF members parties, including the prime minster himself are considered as free from any kinds of wrongdoing. It is not secret that in multiple times government officials, many opposition party members and activists who have and have not affiliated with Prosperity Party openly encouraged Abiy to declare war on the people of Tigray. For any fair-minded person, taking the current social, political, economic and security issues, there is no comparisons between TPLF and the now Prosperity Party. Currently, Ethiopia is at the verge of total collapse. If TPLF is accusing for any wrongdoing, there is no reason why Prosperity Party is not accountable too. Because Ethiopians ignored this reality, the country is sinking like a ship under rough weather at the middle of the ocean.
2. The speech what Abiy has made in Bale zone, in February 10/2020 during Welmel irrigation dam inaugurations was the most atrocious, appalling, and revealing to what extent he is intoxicated with hate not only against TPLF, but also against the people of Tigray. Any person who listens what Abiy has said during that time could easily understood that it is unlikely Abiy have an appetite to work not only with TPLF, but also, he does not considered Tigray as part of Ethiopia. Summarizing his speech (my interpretation) he said that the reason why he dissolved EPRDF and created a Prosperity Party is to kick-out TPLF from the palace and to send them to the place from where they came from. He further said that he prefers death instead of working with them (TPLF); If they (TPLF) want to come to Addis Ababa they should have to get permissions from him; We (the Oromos) are an Elephant. Further he said that he will never sit-down and discuss with them (TPLF) in issues related to Ethiopia. This indicates that from the beginning Abiy is not interested only to work with TPLF, but also, he has a plan to isolate and deprive the people of Tigray from participating freely both in social, political and economic activities in Ethiopia. This is a vivid truth why he declared war and the reason why he invited foreign countries to destroy Tigray infrastructures its social fabrics. Similarly, the speech Abiy has delivered right after the Tigray election ended shows the determination of Abiy to go to war with the people of Tigray. In his speech he condemned the election as illegal and he gave a hint by saying that he will take a decisive measure when needed, children’s and elders will die, mothers will cry, buildings will be destroyed, etc. In both occasions Abiy speaks what is in his mind. As he said, in Tigray private and public buildings are destroyed, and looted, peoples of all age groups are killed, women of all age groups are raped, Fathers and Mothers are crying for the loss of their loved one, and the land of Tigray is burning, and contaminated with forbidden chemicals. Because of the atrocities committed by Abiy and his associates, Tigray at this time is crying bloody tears.
3. After TPLF conducted election, Abiy cuts Tigray regional state budgets, and many projects sized to exist in Tigray in the name of “no budgets”.
4. The road taking to Tigray through Amhara regions were closed for the last 3 years and Abiy has never raised about this issue. However, the minister of industry who is an Amhara, said during one of his interviews with the local media outlets that” closing the road is the least they can do to punish the people of Tigray”. This shows the coordinating efforts between Abiy government and the Amhara region to cause harm on the people of Tigray. 5. Many TPLF members who occupied various positions in different ministries, and military establishments were either fired or demoted from their positions after Abiy came to power, and currently one day before the start of the war, not less than 17, 000 Tegarus serving their country in the military establishments are arrested (some were killed on the spot by their subordinates as a revenge because of their ethnicity) with no reason and languishing in different jails, located in different part of the country.
6. During the Locust invasion that swept over farms of in rural Tigray, the Ministry of Agriculture has denied spraying pesticide to Tigray farmer’s land. As a result of this the subsistence farmers in Tigray losses not less than 40 % of crop production. This indicated that Abiy administration is using starvation as a weapon, even before the war started to subdue the right of the peoples of Tigray.
7. The ministry of education decided not to send COVID-19 Personal protective equipment to students in Tigray. This indicated that it is one of Abiy’s intentions to deny the people of Tigray access to health services. This is why the invading armies are deliberately looted, destroyed and burned down health facilities. According to some sources more than 70% of health facilities in Tigray are completely destroyed.
8. The visit of Abiy to Sawa, an Eritrean military training base, and in return the visit of Isayas the Ethiopian Airforce, and Ethiopian Military Equipment Factory Bases are an indication of their joint war preparation programs against the people of Tigray. It is not secret that Abiy and Isayas together with the Amhara regional state, secretly but vigorously working jointly to launch military assault against TPLF. There are many evidences that the Ethiopian military defense forces together with the Amhara special forces were amassed near the border of Tigray long before the start of the war. This was confirmed by Amhara regional state president in his various public speeches he made. Beside this, Abere Adamu, the Amhara regional state police commissioner in one of his public meeting he confessed that he had close contact with the Ethiopian military stationed in different Tigray border locations, in particular, Humera and discussed with the military officers how to synchronize the Amhara special police with Ethiopian defense forces in time of the possible war with TPLF. Similarly, one of the brigadiers general a member of the Northern Command recently also confirmed during his interview with government television station that they were completed their preparing to attack TPLF officials in Mekele weeks before the start of the war. On the other front, Isayas of Eritrea ordered his defense forces to stay alert after he make a public speech that it is necessary to rout out TPLF from Ethiopian politics. Because of the threat from three fronts, there is no alternatives for TPLF other than preparing itself to protect the people of Tigray from external and internal aggression. For those who have reservation who start the war, how and why, it is advisable to refer retrospectively the International Crises Group reports released in different times to understand the magnitudes of the now conflicts in Tigray. TPLF has requested multiple times to local and foreign entities to settle the problems through dialogue but the other parties were unwilling to accept the call. This indicated that Abiy from the beginning is decided to solve the periblems with TPLF through military force.
9. Multiple secret meetings between Ethiopian and Eritrean (including the Amhara president and the special forces commissioner) defense forces were held in Bahirdar, Gondar and Addis Abeba. The main points of discussions were to plan war strategies, how they will conduct the war against the people of Tigray.
10. Two days before Abiy declare war on Tigray, the Eritrean dictator and the architect of Tigray war Isayas and his spokesperson Yemane Gebremeskel has spoken openly that in Tigray a political cleansing of the population should take place. This serious threat came from Asmara, exposed Abiy how close he is working with Asmara war lords toward making Tigray irrelevant in Ethiopian politics, how they jointly destroy Tigray infrastructures, and economic and human capital. This is why Isayas ordered his foot soldiers to kill all Tegarus male age from 7 years and up. This could be an evidence that in Tigray, ethnic cleansing and genocide has committed by the three evils of the Amhara “Hutu” militias, Isayas and Abiy. Letting Isayas and the Amhara “Hutu” militias in Tigray internal affairs is the same as letting a rabid Wolfe to flocks of sheep. As always, I said the following fact. If Ethiopia disintegrated, it will be because of the Amhara elite’s political anarchism, narcistic, and extremely selfish ambitions to dominate Ethiopian politics. With this situation when you think about the involvement of Abiy and Isayas (when I think about these two evils, they remind me Nero), it is the same as add fuel to fire. It is not only Tigray, but also Ethiopia is burning!
Last, the people of Tigray have only one option. Accept the current realities, and face it, and use maximum efforts to find solution through arming resistance. There are no other alternatives, except fighting the sworn enemies who came to your doorsteps to kill, rape, steal and destroy private and public goods, belongs to the people of Tigray with no mercy! The majority of Ethiopian elites, in particular the Amhara’s and various religious establishments are betrayed you. They both have blood on their hands. When Your sister, mother and other relatives raped, your brother, sisters, mother, father and the people you know killed and tortured inhumanely, your historical places and their old age treasuries deliberately stollen or destroyed by the invader enemies, what kind of alternatives do you think you have other than engaging the enemies with the language they understood? Join the gallants Tigray Defense Forces and fight your enemies until you free yourself, your people and your land. At this time think about Tigray only, and ignore to think about Ethiopia. Because of what is happening in on the people of Tigray by Ethiopians the venue for negotiation or compromise are shutdown. The Appalling and atrocious crimes committed on the people of Tigray is beyond talking about compromise at this point intime. You will decide this issue after victory if the people of Tigray think it is necessary to discuss about this issue. In the history of Tigray this is the second time the Ethiopia government killing Tegarus by inviting foreign countries. enemies to kill Tegarus. Living together with the people who are fond of land than people is a waste of time! Enough is enough! Tigray will prevail!
