Who was “defected” to where, and who betrayed Ethiopia?

By: W.Yilma                                                        September, 24, 2015

The recent arrival of some TPDM armed men and women from Eritrea territory to Ethiopia are a main talking issue among many Ethiopians.  This unexpected and remarkable event has created happiness for many peace loving Ethiopians. On the contrary it creates fear and hopelessness in the “Banda’s” opposition groups and shake-up the Eritrean regime, which was entirely relied on TPDM support in subjugating his own people. Whether it is knowingly or unknowingly many people, including the majority of the mass media outlets has characterized the return of the TPDM armed group to Ethiopia as “defection.”  <<According to the Oxford advanced learning dictionary>> defection is: the act of leaving a political party, country, etc. to join another that is considered to be an enemy. According to this definition is it appropriate to call the return of TPDM armed group as defectors?  First, these armed groups have abandoned their cause and return to their mother land in assumption that their armed struggle is out of date.  Second they came back to their own country. Third TPDM keep its independent even after the formation of the so called a fake “National salvation Front“which have only 3 days life span. Forth, Eritrea is a hostile country and hence not permanent place for TPDM. Fifth, their arrival is not spontaneous as we have heard from the returnees,   but (according to Ato Molla, the commander of the armed group) with long term coordination plan with Ethiopian intelligence services. Therefore taking these into consideration, the return of TPDM armed group to their mother land should not be characterized as “defection”

Some even said the decision made by TPDM armed group to come back to their country is a “betrayal… Kihdet”. Really?  Unless we are confused what the word betrayal (Kihdet) mean, to me this word is more appropriate to use for those who are stationed in Terrorist congregation town, Asmara! Therefore calling them as a “collaborators aka a Quisling” is the right word. Those oppositions groups stationed in Asmara are not only doing politically and socially unacceptable, but also acting ungodly to satisfy the demonic interest of Shabia and its lieutenants. Because of the Tsunami created by the TPDM, at this time they are acting like a rabid Dog, and preaching as if “perilous time” is near for Ethiopia. It seems war is a gambling game for them, without knowing its consequences, and they forget “who wishes to fight must first count the cost” , Sun Tzu, the art of war.

What are important to note here is that accepting the reality and change the lane based on your conscious is very important steps, for those who considered themselves as a civilized opposition groups. Leave alone in hundreds, lay down one’s weapon (even one person) have an impact to contribute for peace.  Naming the returnees as “defectors” and sugar coating those “Banda’s defectors” stationed in Asmara as “patriots” is a white lie many opposition sympathizers are now deceptively accustomed to.

Eritrea has been a temporary host country for TPDM. Beside this, Eritrea is a hostile country, and its government, Shabia is an ardent enemy of the Ethiopian people. For many Ethiopians oppositions stationed in Asmara, the unstoppable Eritrean regime efforts to destabilize Ethiopia is a challenge and hard to cope with. It is unwise to ignore these excess hostilities which I believe precipitated TPDM armed groups to take this bold and bravery measures. Understanding this, how can we call Molla and his armed group “defectors”? How can we use the same terminology “defection” both for Molla and Berhanus groups? Berhanu and his cohorts have defected to Eritrea by betraying their country. On the contrary Molla came back to his country from the most hostile country amazingly broke the enemy’s fortified military line. This needs determination, military talent and bravery, and whether we like it or not this is the first military engagement many of us witnessing in our life time. Therefore it seems unfair to call the return of TPDM armed group as “defectors”. Those who are in Eritrea to cause harm to their country are the one who we should call them as a defectors and betrayals!

It is clear TPDM cause harm to their country for many years, in particular to those people living in bordering area with Eritrea. However, if they realizing the overall events, scrutinizing their cause, the past, present, and understanding the motives and intentions of our country’s ardent enemy, Shabia, the decision they made to come back home could compensate what they have done in the past. This kind of approaches helps to persuade others armed groups to lay down their weapons, and encouraging them to start peaceful struggles.   In particular those who are under the control of Shabia one way or the other one day they will realize how wrong they are, and the motives, intention of their bakers and do the same when the time comes. The recent TPDM collective decisions will not be the end, with certainty it will continue in alarming scale!

There are issues that need to be raised here, and need more explanations from TPDM, in particular Ato Molla. What does he observed for the last 13 years from the Eritrean regime toward Ethiopia during his stay? What was the extent of the military confrontation between TPDM fighters and Shabia solders during their evacuation? Does he know more information other than what he has explained in his press briefing, I mean those not classified information? Can he be more specific, let’s say why Shabia is determined to pay such huge sacrifice to harm Ethiopia?  Who are behind them? With which countries Shabia have close military relationship? Does he observe foreign military personnel’s presence? What is the military status of Shabia at this time, including the moral status of his military personnel? How they killed colonel petro’s and other Ethiopians? What are those military officers defected from Ethiopia are doing now? Are they serving the hostile country or already left Eritrea?

Last, what is sad to see for any observer is that while the son of an ordinary farmer becomes aware of the hideous intention of the enemy camp, in particular Shabia, the good “professor”   has terribly failed to understand this by questioning his intellectual and moral consciousness. As long as Shabia is managed to fool us, Isayas have never been shortages of new strategies to destroy the fabric of Ethiopia. Shabia long term aim is to weaken us by creating divisions among Ethiopians, and ultimately create a favorable condition to impose Eritrean geo-political interest upon us. Therefore, now together with Birhanu cohorts, they will let us know soon their new strategies. Among these strategies the first will be narrowing the Birhanu’s circles with narrow ethno-centric chauvinist groups mainly selected from one specific ethnic group and try it if it works.  But I have confidence that no matter the enemies camps tirelessly spreading “make believe” fabricated stories they will never weaken the fabric and unity of the Ethiopian people, in particular when it comes Eritrean issues. Leave alone to the Ethiopian people, Shabia will never be a friend of his own people! It is unfortunate to live with such stubborn, demon and jealous neighbor.  One thing should not be ignored here. The narrow minded ethno-chauvinist groups have influence in the western countries, in the name of democracy, human right and environment, and penetrated to different governmental and non-governmental institutions, and their destructive potential should not be ignored. Therefore, the same as the military front, good governance, and effective diplomacy is imperative to discredit their influence. Peace and democracy are inseparable.

Long Live Ethiopia!
