Diaspora Ethiopians raised funds to help Adey Amete, mother of Martyr Haileyesus (Dambush).

(Aigafourm April 04, 2008):- The listeners of Dimtsi Woyane and readers of Aigaforum in the Diaspora organized to raise fund for Adey Amete, who is the mother of one of the martyrs who lives in the hearts and minds of Ethiopians.  The story of Woyane Tigray was told by Ado Woyenti from an interview by Dimtsi Woyane.  Aigaforum posted the interview and listeners were moved and inspired to raise over $20, 000.00 birr to support Adey (mama) Amete. Adey Amete is a blind patriotic and courageous mother of Haileyesyus (Dambush).

Hailyesus also known as “Dambush” was a commander and member of the TPLF.  He was revered and loved by all.  He was martyr during what is now considered to be a watershed mark battle against the Derg with the plan to capture the strategic place Guna.  The battle of Guna had the TPLF/EPRDF fighters navigate the hard and rough terrain of Guna Mountain and defeat the Derg.  These fighters demonstrated skill, efficiency and unflinching bravery! It was in that intense fight that the prelude to the defeat of the Derg came about.  The battle for Guna was very critical and decisive and the steadfast skill and military ability maneuver and strength of the TPLF/EPRDF was mesmerizing.  It is when the TPLF/EPRDF fighters brought Guna under their control that there were whispers of the mountain speaking.  It is at that time when people started talking about the profound dedication and commitment of the fighters and from then on people referred to the mountain as the witness.  Soon after a song came about and the lyrics started off with "..... Guna Mountain speak up" and the song was to commemorate the vigilant and committed bravery shown by t he fallen martyrs. Dambush happened to be one of the martyrs and to this day one could feel the story of Guna’s battle from Guna Mountain and it is truly a living legacy to ask that the Guna Mountain speak “Guna Terarra, Tenager Sele Jegna” because there are so many stories that ought to be accounted for and told.

The story of Adeye Amete can be retold by many other Ethiopian mothers if the story is only about bravery and courage.  But the story of Adeye Amete is not just about being a mother of a martyr it is indeed special and in the future will be told.  It is the unique story of a woman with much stamina and dedication.  It was told by her with such vigor.  It is her heart warming story that triggered the Diaspora Ethiopians to take the initiative and raise funds for Adey Amete.  Adey Amete has been blind for over forty years.  Haileyesus “Dambush” was her only child. She lost her one and only child Haileyesus and yet Adey Amete as you can hear with her own voice did not complain.  Please listen to her own narration of her life via this link.

The legacy of our martyrs such as Dambsuh ought to live for ever.  When thinking of our martyrs it is a glorious consolation to know that they gave their life while discharging the highest duty as citizens and to create a foundation for the democracy that is taking place in our country Ethiopia today.  It is the voices of our mother Adey Amete that re-invigorates us and propels us to continue to work hard to give life to the legacy of those freedom pioneers.  Aigaforum believes that helping Adey Amete is a noble cause and salutes the organizers.

Adey Amete will receive the donated money soon and we hope Dimtsi Woyane will cover the event.
