Do as we say, not as we do: The politics of revenge. Gebru Boj'Boj September 15, 2020 - First, I would like to apologize for bringing the following sad news during this happy moment of ours coming from our New Year time and historic election. Hoping that you will accept my apology and understand where I am coming from, let me go straight to the story. The psychological distance between what is being preached and practiced and the discrepancy between recommendations and actions happening in Ethiopia against Tegaru today is mind-boggling, to say the least.
Oromo: The nation in the continuous revolution Assefa A. Lemu 09-14-20 - Ethiopia, with its present-day shape and borders, was createdby Emperor Menelik II who was born on August 17, 1844 in Ankober, North Shewa of the present Amhara State, and died in Addis Ababa (Finfinne) on December 12, 1913 and who was the emperor of Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913. As stated in the preamble of The Transitional Period Charter of Ethiopia...
Ethiopia Premier Abiy Faces Tigray Test Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has won plaudits abroad. He's less popular at home. This week he faces the biggest challenge yet to his authority. At stake is the success of ambitious economic plans that include the full or partial participation of foreign investors in industries ranging from sugar to telecommunications. Edward Hobey-Hamsher, a senior Africa analyst at U.K. risk consultancy Verisk Maplecroft. said "There is no middle ground in Ethiopia. There are these entirely polarized views about its future. Could it break up? Absolutely." What are our Amhara elites who are enabling Abiy to auction the country seeing that Foreigners and millions of Ethiopians can't see? How could they continue to allow Abiy to destroy the country they will call home tomorrow after he is gone? Why can't they smell the coffee and abandoned Abiy before it is too late?
The Long Game Aesop 09/09/2020 - First, congratulations to all Tigreans who made this election possible. Big gratitude also goes to other people who supported Tigrai's election. It is a mystery why Tigrai's detractors hoped people who took bullets to secure ballots yesterday, would back down over infantile ridicule and threats today. It is also a hard to fathom why they thought defamation campaigns might distract battle-hardened leaders from single-mindedly pursuing their goals.
Speaking Truth to Power: The Election in Tigray Elias Dawit 09-07-20 - Democracy is not easy. It exposes the inherent flaws in governance and lays bare the weak underbelly of a country's institutions. Democracy is risky. The people's choices may not match the challenges that lay ahead and can pull a country backwards-reversing hard-fought gains and impeding a progressive way forward. Democracy is messy. It can cause accelerated turmoil and uncertainty. There are no shortcuts to democracy. We could not agree more!! Must Read!

OLF Press Statement OLF 09-14-20 -The Oromo Liberation Front passionately believes that sustainable and permanent solution to Ethiopia's complex political problems could only be attained with an All-Inclusive democracy and participation of all political forces. To this effect, OLF had been working with various political forces including those in power of ruling the country and opposition groups to create a national consensus to solve the political crises in Ethiopia.
ANALYSIS: TIGRAY ELECTION: BEYOND DEFYING THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT Addis Abeba, September 11/2020 - The Tigray Regional State, on September 9, 2020, held its Regional election that many said was an unprecedented act of defiance to the Federal Government while it was also claimed "successful" by the Tigray Electoral Commission. The vote went very well, we assume that the polling was successful with more than 97 percent turnout from the preliminary estimation...
Ethiopian Region Holds Local Elections in Defiance of Prime Minister (New York Times) - The government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed postponed elections this year because of the coronavirus, but the restive northern region of Tigray went ahead and held a vote anyway, escalating tensions. Officials in Tigray, as well as groups opposed to Mr. Abiy's rule, had been infuriated when the federal government, citing the coronavirus pandemic, postponed general elections that were supposed to be held in August. (As you all know New York Times is the Newspaper of record by reputation. New York Times has recorded Tigrai Election 2012 E.C. !!)
The ant, the spider, or the bee? Aesop 09/06/2020 - The debate between political parties in Tigrai was enlightening. The major opposition parties fall into two categories. Some of them sought political ideology from Tigrai's historical and cultural past. Others looked for a suitable political ideology from abroad. The TPLF stood out in this regard. TPLF's political ideology is a product of imported ideology reconciled to Tigrai's reality on the ground. TPLF adopted the developmental state model of East Asia.
A must-read to all political parties competing in the Tigrai election. Our able writer Aesop has a question and a word of wisdom you all must answer and heed.
Delight and Burden for TPLF Yohannes Aberra, PhD 09-12-20 - It was quite expected that TPLF would win the election. In spite of the fact that TPLF had acted disastrously by assigning its best to the Federal and its mediocre and less to Tigray, leaving the Region vulnerable, the noble people of Tigray swallowed their anger and disappointment and gave it a second chance to transform itself into a "TPLF proper".
Governing party in Tigray sweeps regional polls The governing party in Ethiopia's northern Tigray region has won all contested seats in elections that have further affected an already hostile relationship with the federal government. "The total seats for all the regional constituencies were won by the TPLF," regional election commissioner Muluwork Kidanemariam said on Friday, referring to the Tigray People's Liberation Front.
Tigray Election: Victory of Good over Evil, and Hope for those Yearning to Breathe Free! Hailemariam Abebe 9-9-20 - If there is anyone out there wondering why the "last twenty-seven years," were in fact years of light and never darkness for Ethiopia, the answer is playing right in front of us and at that, on an international scaleand with international standards. Despite of the enormous security and economic challenges posed by those...
A new era dawns in Tigray! Yohannes Aberra, PhD - The deafening noise, the irritating chatter, the incoherent hate induced mumbo jambo of an "illegal election" in Tigray has suddenly been silenced by no other than over two million people with only a ballot card in the right hands. The success of the election may just be the first step in the march towards mature democracy.
Incumbent vs Challenger: Who would have an Advantage in Tigray's Election? Prof Asayehgn Desta, 09-08-20 - After the "National Electoral Board of Ethiopia abandoned vote preparations in March due to the Arrival of COVID-19" (International Crisis Group, August 14, 2020), embracing their constitutional rights, the Administrative State Council of Tigray expressed its desire to run...
SJTE: Demanding Federal Governmnet to Allow Free Movement of Citizens to and From Tigrai This weekend a number of international and local news correspondents were prevented from boarding their flights from Bole Airport to Mekelle, Tigrai. The debacle at Bole Airport in Addis Ababa Ethiopia is an extension of the aggression Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government continues to inflict towards the Regional State of Tigrai.
Ethiopia bars journalists from flying to Tigray regional vote ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - At least 12 people, including four journalists and a senior think tank analyst, were barred on Monday from flying to Tigray, four of the passengers said. William Davison, a senior analyst at the International Crisis Group, was also stopped from flying, he said. We hope Mr William will report this to his sponsors who are babysitting the Abiy government to prolong the misery of Ethiopians and destroy the Ethiopian fabric. It is cast in stone -Tigrai will vote!
2020 Tigray Election - The Historic Election that Changes everything!!! Tsegai Berhane (PhD) Mekelle University, School of Law 09-07-20 - As I am writing this short article at the eve of the historic 2020 Tigray Election, I am very excited to be part of the history and I have the feeling that this election will change everything. It is a game changer and puts the standard high for other nations and nationalities in Ethiopia. The election underlines that self-determination ...
"The difficulties of peace are better than the agonies of war". Yohannes Aberra, PhD 09-05-20 - Although I can't be sure about what the implications of the decision of the House of Federation, to consider the elections in Tigray as null and void are, I had spent the entire day building scenarios based on the possible decisions the House may reach until the news broke. Today was a tense day for us all because if the House of Federation succumbs to the pressure of the satanic recommendations of some opposition parties and hate mongers...
Why there are fears that Ethiopia could break up The feud between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the ruling party in the strategically important Tigray region is escalating, raising fears of military confrontation and the break-up of Africa's second most-populous nation.
The tensions revolve around the regional government's decision to press ahead with organizing its own election for the Tigray parliament on Wednesday
An Open Letter to PM Abiy Ahmed: Don't let them fool you - again! Haile Tessema, 05 Sept. 2020 - No one in Ethiopia's contemporary history had as widespread public support as you. Upon your rise to power, and following your visits to various parts of the country, Ethiopians of both genders, all ethnic backgrounds, religious affiliations and people from all walks of life gave their approval; wished you the best, and pledged to be by your side every step of the way.
