Setback for Abiy and his "Medemer" mantra!
After OPDO/ODP central committee members rejected his push to form a unitary party that would have undermined the current federalism, EPRDF is forced to issue a face-saving statement. In its statement, EPRDF chastizes the TPLF for starting the campaign to undermine the "Medemer" effort and acknowledges the federal structure, as well as the rights of Nations and Nationalities, will be respected. Medemer, for now, is dead!
All indications are the Oromo politicians are looking ahead to Abiy-less ODP and for a new coalition of federalist forces to form a majority government in Ethiopia. EPRDF, as we know it, may be dead but there is a slight chance the new coalition will retain most of the current EPRDF principles. The question is will it be ADP or TPLF that will be left out from the new coalition. If you recall ADP/ANDM has said in no uncertain term it will not accept the constitution as is!

The "Medemer" campaign is forcing Oromo Nationalists and Academics to rethink their political stand. Abiy and the Berhanu Nega group were certain they were going to bury Federalist forces with a simple populist slogan and the 'Mama Ethiopia' mantra. However, they have come to realize the Nation and Nationalities are not ready to give up their constitutional rights. Even Jawar is on record he will be willing to work with the TPLF to save the constitution and multinational federation!
With Jawar's departure from the Abiy camp, (Watch TV Tigrai Amharic News) the color revolution in Ethiopia is coming to an end for sure. We only hope it is not coming to an end the same way it has in other countries-with a catastrophic failure.
