The release of former derg officials may be a done deal as far as the government of the EPRDF goes. But many questions linger unanswered. We pray hard EPRDF officials are not too happy about the silence of the Ethiopian scholars and constitutional lawyers on this issue. Silence on this issue implies that no one cares about the constitution or simply people have better things to do! No matter how you see it, both cases are bad for EPRDF and bad for the country! We hope educators in many of the top university law schools in the country will raise this issue among their students going forward.
Article 62 says it is the House of Federation that will answer definitively on any constitutional matter. The question we have is who can raise the issue in the House of Federation? Any citizen, an MP or who? Do courts have to see such case before it goes to the House of Federation?
... and you thought Aboy Sebhat was wrong to say "he will fight any aggressor of Eritrea during an online interview a year or so ago!" The future of the Horn is not at the hand of Shaibya/Hegdef but Ethiopians and Eritreans! This news may be out of tune and irritating, to say the least, given Shaibya politics of today but it will be the News of the Future!
