Science in the developing world: Eritrea's shattered science
Eritrea, an impoverished country of 3 million people on the Horn of Africa (see 'A troubled corner'), is not known for its science. It ranks 177th out of 187 countries on the United Nations Human Development Index. It comes in last in terms of press freedom and is the eighth most militarized country in the world. The World Health Organization estimated that there were just 5 medical doctors per 100,000 people in the country in 2004.
Berhanu Nega must be very astonished as we are by what he has accomplished ever since he decided to join the anti EPRDF camp.
May be our memory is failing us but we cannot name one other than Berhanu Nega who has managed to fail in politics, not once, but three times, with three different political organizations!
Berhanu first failed as an EPRP. Second as Kinjit. Third as ginbot 7.
The first and second needs no explanation but the third one does!
At the moment Berhanu Nega and his few associates have commenced the firing and hiring so to speak within ginbot 7.
Nobody knows how many will be fired or when this firing will end but one thing is certain ginbot 7 is in trouble !
In America where Dr Berhanu resides and enjoys the American way of life there is a saying.." three strikes and you are out!" One wonders if Berhanu will ever see the wisdom in this saying and say enough or his dwindling followers will say enough and fire him!
