DR Negasso former president of Ethiopia and Ato Seye former head of EFFORT, an endowment conglomerate, left EPRDF some eight years ago... Today both have decided to join a little known new opposition block called UDJ shunning other political organizations. Ato Seye joining UDJ is essentially disapproving ARENA Tigrai! Since Seye and Negasso left EPRDF, the party has transformed itself and the country! Infact PM Meles and many senior leaders will leave their post within five years! While PM Meles and others are leaving the leadership role of their party to new and young, Dr Negasso and Ato Seye are clinging to any political organization that may bring them back to power. If you ask us, It seems power by any means is the driving reason for Ato Seye and Dr Negasso wanting to join UDJ! Else, tell us what Ato Seye and Dr Negasso see in UDJ an organization that is formed by Kinjit/Derge and EPRP left over’s? Why was ARENA not good enough for Seye? Have your say!

Alemayehu Fantaw’s piece titled Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs and National Security Policy: The Case for a Paradigm Shift has ambitious and lofty reach. The paper claims that protecting the sanctity of territorial integrity is the fundamental premise of the current Ethiopia’s foreign and security policy. This, according to the writer, relegates non-military aspect of security into a secondary place. The author also charges that the Ethiopian government is spending too much on boosting its defense capabilities taking the nation’s meager resources away

On elders attempt to establish channel between PM Meles and Medrek!!
Medrek has crowned itself to be the main opposition in Ethiopia and is demanding special treatment. And for some reason some folks, like the "elders" have fallen for it and are trying to convince the EPRDF to treat Medrek as such. We are not sure what the elders saw in Medrek worthy of their time but though we appreciate the elders effort to bring a culture of tolerance, it should be understood that not all problems would be solved by elders. Their contribution should be done in such a way that it does not undermine the effort to build strong institutions. Medrek walked out of the code of conduct agreement negotiation and to reward them by opening a back door channel with the Prime Minister or anyone else will hurt the democratic process. The code of conduct agreement includes an avenue for any late comers to join and must be the only avenue Medrek should follow.Aigaforum 11/19/09
