Tigray Government Statement regarding current political developments and on the US Senate Resolution in regard to Tigray and Ethiopia. May 2021

STOP the GENOCIDE in TIGRAY.

Raping Tigrayans and weaponizations of Starvation are Instruments of Genocide and Genocide is happening in Tigray.

-Restore the Elected Government of Tigray.

-Force the immediate withdrawal of the Eritrean Army and Amhara Militia.

-Establish an International Independent Investigation Commission to investigate the crimes committed in Tigray.

(Aigaforum 05/20/21)

Nothing to say except: Glad to be born Tigraway!!- We know Ethiopians of all kinds are dying everyday without fighting against Tyranny but not Tegaru!

The US and the UN have failed Tigrayans so far. They have allowed Abiy and Isaias Afewerki to destroy the livelihoods of many Tigrayans. For the record, the US was the main sponsor of Abiy Ahmed. Without its support, neither Abiy nor Isaias would have caused the untold destruction of Tigrayans and their economy. Be that as it may, Tigrayans are encouraged by the Biden administration's gesture and aid rendered so far. But more needs to be done to avoid a catastrophic famine soon. The US and UN must start a food airdrop before the rainy season starts. It is an open secret Isaias Afeworki and Abiy Ahmed are using food as a weapon. They should not succeed in doing that. Start an Airdrop operation now and save lives.

TMH TV: Getachew Reda TPLF Executive Leader on Current Issues - May 2021

Getachew said Ethiopia was doomed from the get-go when Abiy assumed power. He said it is unlikely that Ethiopia will continue as a country thanks to the Amhara Elite's infatuation with dominance. Getachew in the exclusive interview said he sees no hope for Ethiopia to remain as a country because of the untold atrocities the Abiy government and Amhara forces have unleashed on Tigray. Getachew assured Tigrayans of victory and acknowledged that his organization did not live up to protect the people but is committed going forward to do all in its power to safeguard the people and Tigray!

Does US Resolution 97 Save the People of Tigray from Atrocities? A Reflection
Asayehgn Desta, May 28, 2021 - In addition to tightening the allocation of the federal budget, cutting off supply lines and routes, and failing to provide assistance to the administrative region of Tigray when swarmed by locusts, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy teamed up with Eritrea and Somalian forces, borrowed drones from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and assembled the Ethiopian Federal Forces with Amhara militias and the genocidal Fano youth squad to launch a full blown war to annihilate the people of Tigray on November 4, 2020.

Famine Looms in Tigray Region, U.N. Says
The top humanitarian official at the United Nations warned that parts of Tigray are one step from famine, as the government hinders relief shipments.

The US and UN can not escape blame for this tragedy. The US helped install a despot tyrant by destroying a democratically elected government and the UN is still financing a despot tyrant sham election so that he emboldens himself to do more harm by winning the sham election. History will be very cruel to the US and the UN. Enough is enough save Tigrayan lives now!

Tigrayans told, 'We'll see if America will save you now,' as hundreds rounded up by Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers
(CNN)Days after the United States announced financial sanctions and visa restrictions on Ethiopian and Eritrean officials, eyewitnesses told CNN that hundreds of young men were rounded up from displaced peoples camps in Shire, a town in Tigray, late Monday evening. Witnesses speaking to CNN on condition of anonymity described how Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers invaded at least two IDP centers where they beat and harassed Tigrayans...

Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) on US State Dept Visa Restriction
Like the people of Tigray, the TPLF is a victim and hence there is no rationale for equivalence with criminals. First, the TPLF applauds the decision of President Biden's administration, following Senate Resolution #97, to take concrete economic and diplomatic sanctions and measures against the regimes of Isaias Afewerki and Abiy Ahmed...

The Political Risk of Investing in Ethiopia
Aesop 05/26/2021 - Today, the world commemorated the cruel murder of George Floyd in the United States. The cold-blooded murder of one individual (a minority) moved the entire population of the United States to action. This pushed the government to prosecute and punish the murderer. However, the massacre of tens of thousands of innocent Tigreans did not stir Ethiopians to action. This pushed the junta in Addis Ababa to a frenzy of selling state-owned enterprises to sponsor its genocidal war project. But this scheme, thankfully, is also bound to falter.

What the U.S. Can Do to End the War and Bring Hope to the Region
Elias Dawit 05-23-21 - The U.S. has played an outsized role in propping up the Abiy Ahmed government. Despite decades of close cooperation between the EPRDF and the U.S. government in maintaining regional stability in the rough neighborhood of the Horn of Africa, the U.S. remained uneasy with the EPRDF's land policy, banking system and overall approach to the economy within the context of the "developmental state."

The Genocide in Tigray - The Amhara Elites Make It Possible
Aynalem Sebhatu 05-23-21 - The Amhara elites have been actively orchestrating the genocidal war in Tigray for over six months now. All I can say is there are people who clearly did not get the memo. As one explores to understand the war in Tigray, looking for evidence of the different roles the Amhara elites played in the war effort, one finds them playing a central role and are increasingly playing a prominent role in the devastation of Tigray.

UN demands full inquiry after Telegraph reveals potential white phosphorus burns in Ethiopia's war

This young girl's burns are consistent with white phosphorus The United Nation's humanitarian chief has called for a full investigation after The Telegraph reported that civilians had suffered horrific injuries consistent with the use of white phosphorus during fighting in northern Ethiopia. The Telegraph obtained exclusive footage and accounts of witnesses and victims smuggled out of the mountainous region of Tigray showing civilians with burns covering their bodies.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner who's presiding over a humanitarian catastrophe
(CNN) - In 2018, after a two-year conflict, two historically warring nations - Ethiopia and Eritrea - at last signed a peace agreement. The following year, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who brokered the peace, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In the two years since, Abiy joins the ranks of controversial Peace Prize recipients and nominees, as his record now includes overseeing what may amount to war crimes.

Eritrean and Ethiopian soldiers detain hundreds in Tigray
ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) -Eritrean and Ethiopian soldiers forcibly detained more than 500 young men and women from four camps for displaced people in the town of Shire in the northern region of Tigray on Monday night, three aid workers and a doctor told Reuters.

United States' Actions to Press for the Resolution of the Crisis in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia
The United States has deepening concerns about the ongoing crisis in Ethiopia’s Tigray region as well as other threats to the sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity of Ethiopia. People in Tigray continue to suffer human rights violations, abuses, and atrocities, and urgently needed humanitarian relief is being blocked by the Ethiopian and Eritrean militaries as well as other armed actors. Despite significant diplomatic engagement, the parties to the conflict in Tigray have taken no meaningful steps...

MY SCHOLARLY ADVICE TO PRESIDENT MUSE BIHI: Establishment of Somaliland National Institute for Strategic Studies
Mohamed Farah Abdi 05-24-21 - Although Somaliland has achieved good progress in some sectors but still there is limited technical capacity to understand and adopt the best economic strategies and policies practiced by other countries with the similar development background and with the same geopolitical case such as the South East Asian countries

Ethiopia says Eritrean troops killed civilians in Tigray
Ethiopia on Friday for the first time accused troops from neighbouring Eritrea of killing 110[Note:The number is much higher according to Amnesty and Other International Institutions] civilians in a massacre in the war-hit Tigray region. The attorney general's office sharply contradicted law enforcement officials who claimed earlier this month that the "great majority" of those killed in the city of Axum were fighters, not civilians.

An Open Letter to HE Mr. Joseph R. Biden, Jr., 46th President of the United States of America
Goitom Aregawi, MD, 05-21-21 - Mr. President, I am writing this appreciating Your Excellency’s historic decision to recognize the Armenian Genocide and appealing for Your administration to investigate and stop the ongoing Genocide in Tigray with distinctively similar features with the Armenian Genocide.

Voice of America Is Accused of Ignoring Government Atrocities in Ethiopia
ASON PATINKIN SPENT the better part of a decade as a freelance reporter, covering conflicts, extremism, and counterinsurgency in East Africa for major news outlets including the Washington Post, Reuters, and the Associated Press. He won commendations for relentless reporting under a repressive regime in South Sudan and broke stories about war crimes that provoked global outrage. But as Patinkin watched a brutal civil war unfold in Ethiopia this winter and spring, the coverage by his most recent employer, the U.S. government-funded broadcaster Voice of America, shocked and unnerved him. Troops and paramilitaries loyal to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed were accused of killing and expelling civilians and committing gang rape, but VOA's coverage largely favored the government...
[I knew VOA Amharic was biased against the EPRDF regime then thanks to the employees who exposed them early on. I am not surprised it is still biased now in favor of Abiy, it's hired gun holding power! Kudos to the honest and professional journalists who quit then and now to expose VOA for what it is. Hiding behind the Sovereignty Skirt: Ethiopia's Foreign Ministry Statement
Fitih Ashenafi 05-21-21 - On 17 May, the Ethiopian regime has issued a spurious statement. The regime pronounces that an 'attempt to meddle in Ethiopia's internal affairs' is not acceptable. The main reason for this is the call by the US (and other) government for the withdrawal of Amhara forces from Tigray's territories

US Senate passes unanimous resolution calling for withdrawal of Eritrean forces from Ethiopia
(CNN)The US Senate has unanimously passed a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of Eritrean troops from Ethiopia's war-torn northern Tigray region, after a CNN investigation revealed that the soldiers were cutting off critical aid routes. A CNN team traveling through Tigray in late April witnessed Eritrean soldiers, some disguising themselves in old Ethiopian military uniforms, blocking aid to starving populations

Ethiopian soldiers armed with guns and grenades raid hospital featured in CNN report
(CNN)Ethiopian soldiers armed with machine guns, sniper rifles and grenades raided a hospital in Ethiopia's war-torn northern Tigray region earlier this week in retribution, doctors say, for a CNN investigation that revealed Ethiopian and Eritrean troops were blocking humanitarian aid to patients there.

Genocide in Ethiopia?
The head of Ethiopia's Orthodox Church, Abune Mathias, recently condemned the ongoing armed conflict in Ethiopia's Tigray region and the suffering it's causing the civilian population. Abune Mathias may be the highest-profile figure to label the alleged criminal acts against Tigrayans as genocide, but he's not the first. In January, the leader of the Tigray People's Liberation Front and former president of Tigray - Debretsion Gebremichael - accused the Ethiopian and Eritrean forces of waging a "devastating and genocidal war" in Tigray.

Pandemic of Hunger Symposium: The Ethio-Eritrean Hunger Plan for Tigray and the Failure of Resolution 2417
Alex de Waalt 05-18-21 - Tigray, Ethiopia, is a test case for United Nations Security Council resolution 2417 (2417). The United Nations has failed that test. Today, between 4.5 million and 5.2 million people of Tigray's total population of 5.7 million are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance. Famine is probably occurring already, and without doubt in the coming months Tigrayans will be...

Livestreaming Genocide
Elias Dawit 05-16-21 - It is perplexing to read the reporting on Ethiopia's war against Tigrayans. The recitation of facts in the dry tones of conventional journalism project almost an ordinariness to the events. The words "genocide," "humanitarian disaster," "atrocities against civilians," "mass starvation" and even "rape" have somehow failed to convey the sheer depth of interminable sadness, loss and utter horror that a people are undergoing.

People face 'horrific' situation in Ethiopia's Tigray: WHO chief
Ethiopia's conflict-hit Tigray region is facing a horrifying situation with people dying of hunger, health services destroyed and rape "rampant", according to the World Health Organization chief, who is from the region. "The situation in Tigray, Ethiopia, is, if I use one word, horrific. Very horrific," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference on Monday

As Ethiopia Fights in Tigray Region, a Crackdown on Journalists
(New York Times) - NAIROBI, Kenya - One Ethiopian journalist was taken away by police officers as his distraught 10-year-old daughter clung to him. Another fled the country after she said armed men ransacked her home and threatened to kill her. And a foreign reporter working for The New York Times had his press credentials revoked, days after he interviewed victims of sexual assault and terrified residents in the conflict-torn Tigray
