TMH TV: Getachew Reda TPLF Executive Leader on Current Issues - May 2021

Getachew said Ethiopia was doomed from the get-go when Abiy assumed power. He said it is unlikely that Ethiopia will continue as a country thanks to the Amhara Elite's infatuation with dominance. Getachew in the exclusive interview said he sees no hope for Ethiopia to remain as a country because of the untold atrocities the Abiy government and Amhara forces have unleashed on Tigray. Getachew assured Tigrayans of victory and acknowledged that his organization did not live up to protect the people but is committed going forward to do all in its power to safeguard the people and Tigray!

The Passing of a Genocidal Empire
Mogos Abraham, PhD 06 June 2021 - Motivated by a shear racism or madness, genocide is a systematic extermination of a human group, which is endowed with its own identity of race, language, nationality, faith, culture, history, and territorial distinction. It was first recognized as a crime under international law in 1946 by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/96-I); and codified as an independent crime in the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the Genocide Convention).

Negotiations? What Negotiations?
Alemseged Abbay 06-05-21 - There are three players in genocide: perpetrators, victims, and bystanders. Bystanders-domestic and international- determine whether a genocide occurs or not. Domestic bystanders can be passive onlookers as in the case of the Germans in the anti-Jewish Holocaust, vocal opponents as in the public uproar against the Nazi assault on disabled Germans, or active participants as in the case of the Hutu masses in the anti-Tutsi Rwandan genocide.

UN: Famine is imminent in Ethiopia's embattled Tigray region
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Famine is imminent in Ethiopia’s embattled Tigray region and in the country’s north, the U.N. humanitarian chief said, warning there’s a risk that hundreds of thousands of people or more will die. Mark Lowcock said the economy has been destroyed along with businesses, crops and farms and there are no banking or telecommunications services.

Lost limbs, rising anger as town is caught up in Tigray war
HAWZEN, Tigray (AP) - Shops remained shuttered, some government workers hadn’t been paid and the town’s main hospital was utterly laid to waste. But the Tigrayan fighters still claimed victory, swaggering through the streets of Hawzen with their guns.Hawzen, a rural town in the ethnic Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, is a microcosm of the challenge facing Abiy Ahmed

The Call must be Cease Genocide, not Cease fire.
Gebre Selema 06-04-21 - I think the world is playing word game such as sanction, visa restriction and now cease fire. Before this we had monotonous press releases of expressing concerns, worries, deep concerns, deep worries, grave concerns. Now the word game has evolved to sanction, visa restriction and now cease fire.

Eritrean Army's License for Genocide
Aynalem Sebhatu 06-03-21 - The license of Isaias Afewerki to mow down Tigray to the ground, I submit, is a consequence of a delusional leader of Ethiopia who is totally blinded by insatiable personal power and the mindless Amhara political and intellectual elites who are blinded by hate and vindictive mind set. Even though it is not comparable to the Amhara political groupies, to a certain extent Abiy’s support comes from the Oromo’s political elites too.

John 9:31 We Know That God Does Not Listen to Sinners: Senator Inhofe prays with Abiy Ahmed
Elias Dawit 06-02-21 - As Ethiopian and Eritrean troops ravage Tigray - murdering civilians, raping women and girls, looting homes, and destroying hospitals, schools, and churches - Senator James Inhofe solemnly knelt down in prayer with the perpetrator of these crimes against humanity, Abiy Ahmed. What was Senator Inhofe thinking as he bowed his head and spoke to our Creator? Was he thinking about his granddaughter, Zegeta, born in Ethiopia but raised...

Stick to Principles: Law enforcement action required to spare Tigrayan civilians.
Haki Reteie 06/01/21 - The international community must adhere to just moral and legal principles and take more robust and swift action against the Eritrean, Ethiopian and Amhara leaders/forces, including coercive law enforcement measures, to spare over 5 million Tigray’s civilian population, irrespective of their bogus sovereignty claims and foolish threats.

US-EU plan meeting to keep spotlight on Ethiopia ahead of G-7
Humanitarian and development leaders from the United States and European Union are planning a live-streamed roundtable on Ethiopia next week, as pressure mounts on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed over the Tigray conflict. A draft preparatory note, seen by Devex, lists two objectives: "To mobilize consensus among U.S. allies on the enormity of the humanitarian and human rights emergency in Tigray."

Over 90% in Ethiopia's Tigray need emergency food aid: UN
More than 90 percent of people in Ethiopia's war-torn Tigray region need emergency food aid, the United Nations said Tuesday, as it appealed for over $200 million to scale up its response. The UN World Food Programme voiced alarm that the conflict had caused an increase in hunger levels which were already high in Tigray.

Force, not sanctions, stops genocide.
Alemseged Abbay 05-31-21 - If the atrocities in Tigray were ordinary crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Amhara and Eritrean occupiers, the US sanctions (US Resolution # 97) would be commendable. However, what is going on in Tigray is not a conventional violation of human rights. It goes way beyond that. It is a textbook genocide which, obviously, must be stopped immediately and unconditionally, if there is the will on the part of the international community.

Open Letter to President Joe Biden
SJTE 06-01-21 - Eritrean and Amhara forces deliberately disrupting farming operations throughout Tigray, Ethiopia
Dear President Biden: We, members of Security and Justice for Tigrayans in Ethiopia (SJTE), are writing again desperately seeking help for our families that we left behind in Tigray. We are US citizens and diaspora sons and daughters of Tigray farming families fortunate enough to live and work in America but terrified at the deplorable and alarming news coming from the region.

Open Letter to Mr. David R. Malpass President, The world Bank Group
SJTE 06-01-21 - Halt financial support to the government of Ethiopia which is committing genocide
Dear Mr. Malpass: We are writing to urge the World Bank to reevaluate its practices and halt its financial support to the government of Ethiopia which is committing unspeakable atrocities on its own people, the worst of which is in the Tigray region. We as diaspora Ethiopians with Tigrayan origin and as members of Security and Justice for Tigrayans in Ethiopia (SJTE), an advocacy organization, are extremely troubled and dismayed by the Bank’s practices of funding a government widely condemned for committing atrocities.

The Crisis in Tigray: a war covered by fog of lies and the truth behind it
Berhane Gebremeskel 05-31-21 - Ethiopia is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great-grandmother of tradition. Ethiopia has seen all forms of governance, but it has been the land of relative peace and harmony for the last 27 years under the Federal system. It has been a rapture for co-existence, brotherhood, and religious tolerance. The country managed to retain secular values in the face of immense ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity..

Ethiopia: Tigray Schools Occupied, Looted
(Nairobi) -All warring parties in Tigray have been implicated in the attacking, pillaging, and occupying of schools since the conflict started, Human Rights Watch said today.

It's time for Africa to take a stance against Ethiopia's crimes
Alex de Waal Executive Director of the World Peace Foundation at the Fletcher School, Tufts University 27 May 2021 -Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers are killing and raping civilians in Tigray. Millions are facing starvation while the authorities choke off essential relief supplies. The European Union and the United States called for an end to the atrocities and access for humanitarian agencies. Africans should not stand for this. They must stand firm on Africa’s principles: sovereignty entails responsibility, unreserved condemnation of atrocities and starvation crimes...

Does US Resolution 97 Save the People of Tigray from Atrocities? A Reflection
Asayehgn Desta, May 28, 2021 - In addition to tightening the allocation of the federal budget, cutting off supply lines and routes, and failing to provide assistance to the administrative region of Tigray when swarmed by locusts, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy teamed up with Eritrea and Somalian forces, borrowed drones from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and assembled the Ethiopian Federal Forces with Amhara militias and the genocidal Fano youth squad to launch a full blown war to annihilate the people of Tigray on November 4, 2020.

Famine Looms in Tigray Region, U.N. Says
The top humanitarian official at the United Nations warned that parts of Tigray are one step from famine, as the government hinders relief shipments.

The US and UN can not escape blame for this tragedy. The US helped install a despot tyrant by destroying a democratically elected government. The UN is still financing a despot tyrant sham election to emboldens himself to do more harm by winning the sham election. History will be very cruel to the US and the UN. Enough is enough to save Tigrayan lives now!

Tigrayans told, 'We'll see if America will save you now,' as hundreds rounded up by Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers
(CNN)Days after the United States announced financial sanctions and visa restrictions on Ethiopian and Eritrean officials, eyewitnesses told CNN that hundreds of young men were rounded up from displaced peoples camps in Shire, a town in Tigray, late Monday evening. Witnesses speaking to CNN on condition of anonymity described how Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers invaded at least two IDP centers where they beat and harassed Tigrayans...

Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) on US State Dept Visa Restriction
Like the people of Tigray, the TPLF is a victim and hence there is no rationale for equivalence with criminals. First, the TPLF applauds the decision of President Biden's administration, following Senate Resolution #97, to take concrete economic and diplomatic sanctions and measures against the regimes of Isaias Afewerki and Abiy Ahmed...

The Political Risk of Investing in Ethiopia
Aesop 05/26/2021 - Today, the world commemorated the cruel murder of George Floyd in the United States. The cold-blooded murder of one individual (a minority) moved the entire population of the United States to action. This pushed the government to prosecute and punish the murderer. However, the massacre of tens of thousands of innocent Tigreans did not stir Ethiopians to action. This pushed the junta in Addis Ababa to a frenzy of selling state-owned enterprises to sponsor its genocidal war project. But this scheme, thankfully, is also bound to falter.

What the U.S. Can Do to End the War and Bring Hope to the Region
Elias Dawit 05-23-21 - The U.S. has played an outsized role in propping up the Abiy Ahmed government. Despite decades of close cooperation between the EPRDF and the U.S. government in maintaining regional stability in the rough neighborhood of the Horn of Africa, the U.S. remained uneasy with the EPRDF's land policy, banking system and overall approach to the economy within the context of the "developmental state."

The Genocide in Tigray - The Amhara Elites Make It Possible
Aynalem Sebhatu 05-23-21 - The Amhara elites have been actively orchestrating the genocidal war in Tigray for over six months now. All I can say is there are people who clearly did not get the memo. As one explores to understand the war in Tigray, looking for evidence of the different roles the Amhara elites played in the war effort, one finds them playing a central role and are increasingly playing a prominent role in the devastation of Tigray.

UN demands full inquiry after Telegraph reveals potential white phosphorus burns in Ethiopia's war
Experts say injuries consistent with white phosophorus, which is banned for use against humans. Kisanet Gebremicheal. She is 13 years old. The mother's name is Genet Asmelash. This young girl's burns are consistent with white phosphorus The United Nation's humanitarian chief has called for a full investigation after The Telegraph reported that civilians had suffered horrific injuries consistent with the use of white phosphorus during fighting in northern Ethiopia. The Telegraph obtained exclusive footage and accounts of witnesses and victims smuggled out of the mountainous region of Tigray showing civilians with burns covering their bodies.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner who's presiding over a humanitarian catastrophe
(CNN) - In 2018, after a two-year conflict, two historically warring nations - Ethiopia and Eritrea - at last, signed a peace agreement. The following year, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who brokered the peace, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In the two years since, Abiy joins the ranks of controversial Peace Prize recipients and nominees, as his record now includes overseeing what may amount to war crimes.

Eritrean and Ethiopian soldiers detain hundreds in Tigray
ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) -Eritrean and Ethiopian soldiers forcibly detained more than 500 young men and women from four camps for displaced people in the town of Shire in the northern region of Tigray on Monday night, three aid workers and a doctor told Reuters.

United States' Actions to Press for the Resolution of the Crisis in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia
The United States has deepening concerns about the ongoing crisis in Ethiopia’s Tigray region as well as other threats to the sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity of Ethiopia. People in Tigray continue to suffer human rights violations, abuses, and atrocities, and urgently needed humanitarian relief is being blocked by the Ethiopian and Eritrean militaries as well as other armed actors. Despite significant diplomatic engagement, the parties to the conflict in Tigray have taken no meaningful steps...

Ethiopia says Eritrean troops killed civilians in Tigray
Ethiopia on Friday for the first time accused troops from neighbouring Eritrea of killing 110[Note:The number is much higher according to Amnesty and Other International Institutions] civilians in a massacre in the war-hit Tigray region. The attorney general's office sharply contradicted law enforcement officials who claimed earlier this month that the "great majority" of those killed in the city of Axum were fighters, not civilians.
