Regional power grab attempt causes rare discord in Ethiopia coalition
ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - A failed regional coup in Ethiopia has exposed rare divisions in the alliance that has dominated the country for three decades, with two of the four ethnic parties that form the ruling coalition trading insults in a public feud.
If war breaks out in Northern Ethiopia because the inept federal government failed to uphold the rule of law and its constitutional duty, make no mistake, there will be no stone left unturned anywhere in the country! Those basking in a wishful dream of seeing the Amhara and Tigrai people fighting while consolidating their own power anywhere in Ethiopia are foolish at best! The Abiy government and its western sponsors should be wary about the impending civil war! From what I hear TPLF and ADP leaders will take their fight all the way to Addis Abeba - Zeru Hagos July 12, 2019

Ethiopia's Year of Reckoning
On April 2, 2018, Abiy Ahmed became Ethiopia's prime minister after the ouster of his predecessor, Hailemariam Desalegn, amid widespread protests. Early in his tenure, Abiy promised fair and competitive elections in 2020. As that date nears, however, Ethiopia appears to be in increasing danger of collapse, with a retired general and several others shot dead late last month...

Ethiopia: New journalist arrests put press freedom gains at risk
The Ethiopian government risks rolling back the great progress it made on media freedom last year, said Amnesty International, after the government announced plans to charge journalists and media outlets for their reporting on the armed forces.
The Abiy government should not incarcerate innocent people regardless of their profession. I can not confirm if the people Amnesty International(AI) mentioned in this report are a real journalist or political activist. What is clear is AI's coverage in Ethiopia is very biased. It makes you wonder if AI was all along praising Abiy for a sinister motive! Is AI using a scare tactic to coach Abiy? Why bring 2018 as if it is different than 2013! In any case, AI if you are honest, you should have reported although people were released when Abiy came to power many more people were jailed and uprooted since he came to power. Federation of Nation States: The only viable option for Ethiopia
Mersea Kidan 7-10-19 - In a recent panel discussion held recently in Addis Ababa, one of the most prominent scholars in the horn of African inter-governmental and intra-governmental relations, Professor MedhanieTaddesse, recommended loosening the federal system in Ethiopia as a way out of the predicament the country is in. He declared it as the only way to save Ethiopia as a country..

Calls for unity in Ethiopia's Tigray as anti-Abiy sentiment swells
Mekele (Ethiopia) (AFP) - In his cramped studio, Ethiopian reggae singer Solomon Yikunoamlak plucks his guitar and reads over his latest ballad, a strident call for unity in his native Tigray during a time of national upheaval. It is unusual material for an artist who rose to fame singing love songs, but Solomon expects it will resonate with Tigrayan listeners..

TPLF Statement - July 10 2019 (Tigrigna)
Mekelle Tigrai July 10, 2019 - TPLF CC statement regarding current political developments in Ethiopia

TPLF Statement - July 10 2019(Amharic)

TPLF calls: 1) For EPRDF to announce the organization's stand on federalism and the constitution before the next election
2) ADP/ANDM to take full responsibility for the current sad state and the recent killings and to ask the Ethiopian people for forgiveness
3) For a clean investigation of the recent killings and to bring the killers and sponsors before the law.
TPLF also affirms that it is ready to work with all federalist and those who respect the constitution to save Ethiopia and respects the constitutional rights of the Southern people! TPLF opposes any use of power to suppress the people's demand.

The Art of Compromise
Teodros Kiros (Ph.D) 7-8-19 - In light of recent Ethiopian history and most particularly the youthful visions of the heroic Ethiopian students of the 1960s, rethinking the political value of Article 39 of the Ethiopian constitution which for the first time armed the Ethnics of Ethiopia to determine their destinies up and including the right to territorially separate.,,

Shield Mekele 70 Enderta from St. George's Lance
Guanche 7 July 2019 - Local media reported this week that the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) has awarded three points and three goals to Fasil Football Club (Fasil) after St. George failed to show up for the scheduled match between the two teams in Gondar- the former's home town. The news of the forfeiture was received with disbelief and dismay across Ethiopia. Supporters of Mekele 70 Enderta Football Club (Mekele City) were particularly flabbergasted.

Michael Raynor U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia at the Ethio-American Doctors Fund 4th Annual Conference Tikur Anbesa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa July 8, 2019
I want to express sincere condolences on those attacks, which targeted not only the individual victims, with whom I had the chance to work closely; and which targeted not only the important Ethiopian institutions they represented; but which also targeted, I would assert, the best interests of this country. There's a lot of flux in Ethiopian politics, and Ethiopian life, at present.
The honorable Ambassador should ask if the "six U.S. government agencies" who helped Ethiopia in many fronts also think the last 27 years were dark years for Ethiopia? The Ambassador is right to single out the extremists in Diaspora who are spearheading the mob politics but aren't the same characters leading the sure mutual destruction of the country from Addis these days? Did the Ambassador visit the millions uprooted and displaced all over the country because the 'reformist' government could not enforce law and order in the country? The Ambassador is wrong to think Ethiopia will be saved by a strong Addis based central government - if that is what his mission is doing! Ethiopia's future depends on how well it manages the federal arrangement. The US can help Ethiopia if it can encourage the EPRDF to solve its internal disagreement and also help Birtukan to hold a free and fair election as scheduled. Anything else will only hasten Ethiopia's downfall which will force the US to manage a huge human catastrophe as a global leader.

How the glow of the historic accord between Ethiopia and Eritrea has faded
A year ago Eritreans could hardly contain their joy as Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed touched down in Asmara. The city had seen nothing like it in a generation that knew war rather than peace. With little progress on implementing and institutionalizing the relations between the two countries, an air of uncertainty and suspicion is creeping back. It is difficult to know how relations between Addis Ababa and Asmara will develop. The fear is that Isaias has gone back to his unpredictable ways, making any predictions difficult.
Semi Atan Enji...Ethio-Eritrea relationship will only become fruitful and long-lasting if the relationship is between people to people. In my wildest dream, I would have never thought anyone from a westerndemocratic country and their hired messengers would glorify a relationship between a one-man tyrant government and a populist new prime minister with no credentials! How can Eritrea, a country without a constitution and according to Jawar "with no roadmap" forge a lasting relationship of equals with Ethiopia? Zeru Hagos July 8, 2019!

Hero to Shiro and from Shiro to Hero, the menga/mob culture.
Hatsani Daniel July 8, 2019 - Listen to a video of a Weyannie Afar veteran, speaking during PM Abiy visit and meeting in Semera, When PM Abiy was trying very hard to humanize and improve his Derg, Higdef and EPRP friends image. It so happens that the Afar people, at least the part of Afar kilil that was in Tigray province have experienced all of PM Abiy new friends.
