Constitutional Order: Open Question!
In the recent few weeks, we are hearing from several legal scholars and EPRDF members that there is a deliberate violation of the Ethiopian constitution. These violations are expressed in several ways including in the pretext of expressing support for the new prime minister. Top leaders of the government seem to see the other way instead of addressing the violation before it gets out of control. In my opinion, some of the federal and regional leaders are implicitly endorsing these violations (example- the recent Bahirdar rally). Given that the country has been building institutions that would uphold constitutional order and that would enforce the law (when there is a violation), we are not observing these institutions taking any action. My question is, can any of the regional justice departments or offices of the general attorney bring a legal case against those behind these violations to the supreme or federal court? We commonly see this in Western countries - good recent examples are those against the Trump administration. If the law of the country allows, why are such actions missing so far? Please invite legal scholars to provide clarification. Concerned Aiga Reader! July 2018

July 2, 2018. - From the outset, I must say I admired Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for the uniting speech he gave at his inaugural ceremony in the Ethiopian Parliament. The people of Tigrai have said NO to ethnic hatred and retribution others should follow suit. Haile Tessema, July 01, 2018 - When Ethiopians of Tigraian background were subjected to ethnic-based attack in the Amhara Region in the past and recent past, the reasoning (now crystal clear to be just sheer pretext) given by perpetrators, their appeasers and some naïve souls was that the attack was in retaliation to the T.P.L.F. dominated government’s misdeeds. To that end...
