Gov't officials, businesspersons arrested on suspicion of corruption reach 42
Addis Ababa, July 29, 2017 (FBC) – The number of government officials, businesspersons and brokers detained on suspicion of corruption has hit 42.Some 34 suspects were arrested last Tuesday and 8 more were added to the list since then, Getachew Ambaye, Ethiopia’s Attorney General, told Journalists today. Three of the additional suspects are from the Addis Ababa housing development project office- namely Saba Mekonnen, Shimeles Alemayhu, and Tsedale Mamo.

The collection of a 2% income tax on Eritrean nationals living abroad violates UN resolution 2023 (2011) which condemns Eritrea’s use of the tax to “destabilise the Horn of Africa region and to violate the sanctions regime”. Addis Ababa, July 27, 2017 (FBC) –Some 34 of the 37 senior government officials, businesspersons and brokers who were detained last Tuesday on suspicion of corruption, appeared in court today.The charges were read out to them at the second criminal bench of the federal high court. They are suspected of embezzling over 1.1 billion birr.
