Biden admin authorizes financial dealings with Yemen's rebels
London - The U.S. Treasury on Monday authorized almost all financial transactions with Yemen's Houthi rebels for the next month, effectively delaying the implementation of former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's last-minute designation of the group as a terror organization while giving the new Biden administration a chance to review it.

UAE: Investment or military Interference in the Horn?

Journalist shot dead in Ethiopia's Tigray - aid worker, residents
NAIROBI (Reuters) - An Ethiopian journalist and his friend have been shot dead in the Tigray region's capital Mekelle, an aid worker and a resident said on Thursday. Rights groups say press freedom has eroded since a November war between federal troops and forces loyal to the former ruling party of Tigray, which lost Mekelle at the end of that month. Dawit Kebede, who worked for Tigray regional state TV, was shot on Tuesday night while in a car with friends, one aid worker said. "Both were shot in their head and their bodies were found in a car they were driving," said the worker, who asked not to be named.

The Axum Civilian Massacre of November 2020
M. J. 18.01.2021 - Eyewitness accounts are emerging with respect to the various reports of the Axum city November 2020 massacre of around 750 innocent people. There was/is no clarity about the killing due to the total communication blockage in the region. Diaspora Tigrayans who were in Axum for celebrating Axum Tsion (St Marry's) annual religious event (locally and nationally called Hidar-Tsion) and others who were in Axum at the relevant time, as well as some media have begun sharing their harrowing experiences of and information on the massacre.


Elusive Peace in the Horn of Africa

Dictator Isaias of Eritrea gave Abiy not only logistical support such as transporting huge number of Ethiopian troops to Eritrea from which they would encircle Tigray but sent Eritrean army to participate in the war.


In Memoriam: Seyoum Mesfin, Ethiopian Peacemaker and Patriot
Seyoum Mesfin, who was killed in Tigray this week at the age of 71, was Ethiopia's longest-serving foreign minister. His untimely death robs Ethiopia of a man who exemplified the country's tradition of enlightened and progressive patriotism. Under other circumstances we would expect a national day of mourning and a state funeral, including national and international recognition of Seyoum's exceptional contribution to the norms, principles and practices of peace in Africa.
