Revisiting Chinese Transportation Projects in Ethiopia Our opening lines last year about the Light Railway system in Addis were about the uniqueness of the project in sub-Saharan Africa – probably the reason why Addis officials decided to implement the project from Chinese money with Chinese companies. On the surface nothing has changed with the two lines (the green East–West and the blue North–South), but underneath there are a few things worth mentioning. (In due time unless Ethiopians rise up to the challenge facing them, all of the development will be for nothing. The country will not manage to pay its debt due to the insecurity and ill-advised policy the neo-liberals are sanctioning on the country!)
Believe You Me, There is no Conspiracy against The People of Tigray Ababiya Abalafa 1-25-19 - To read articles about the alleged marginalization of TPLF and the people of Tigray by the administration of PM Dr. Abiy has now become daily news. Those who write the articles seem to be sympathizers who strongly feel and concerned about the people of Tigray. There should not be any ill feelings about that. However, in so far as I am concerned, none of the articles, I would with all earnest say, convincingly...

Soft-Targets: The Predicament of non-TPLF member Tigreans in Ethiopia outside Tigray Dr. Yohannes Aberra Ayele 1-23-19 - "Soft-targets" are people and things that are unprotected or vulnerable and "hard-targets" are those that are protected from attack. In the history of conflicts the enemies are more inclined towards attacking innocent non-combatants such as children, women, and the elderly rather than face the enemy head on in a hardware battle.
The Real Outrage EsaTed 22/01/2019 - In the summer of 2012, I travelled to Ethiopia. I was in the country a couple of days when the passing of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi hit the airwaves. Investment in irrigation is paying off for Ethiopia’s fast-growing economy After rapid economic growth averaging 10% every year between 2004 and 2014, Ethiopia has emerged as an engine of development in Africa. This is clear from the government's blueprint to achieve middle-income status-or gross national income of at least $1006 per capita - by 2025. This would see a rapid increase in per capita income in Ethiopia, which is currently $783 ... We hope the rapid growth is still continuing and not undermined by the ill-advised new ruler's populist policy! We are really afraid come next year Ethiopia's economy will shrink not grow!
