SANAD AND ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES JOIN FORCES TO CREATE MRO CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN AFRICA Addis Ababa - 05 February 2020: Sanad Aerotech (Sanad), the leading provider of aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) solutions and part of Sanad - a wholly owned subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), ...
Why is Ethiopia all of a sudden interested to make such deals with Dubai based companies? From election ballot to Airplane maintenance Dubai based companies are winning the contracts! Why? We hope the Tewlede's are not becoming enablers of this regime that is short selling the country!
We stand with the heroic people of TIGRAI Milkias mihretab Yohannes (Eritrean journalist WashingtonDC) Feb 05, 2020 - These are difficult and trying times for the nation and people of TIGRAI. Indeed, it is a very challenging and even confusing time for the people of Ethiopia and its neighbors. The past 27 years ,under the brilliant and magnanimous leadership of MELLES/EPRDF was an era of unprecedented progress and stability ,amazing economic and social change ,peace , national pride , national development and poverty alleviation and international respect ...
Ethiopia's economic miracle ride is set to turn into a bumpy road Ethiopia's rapid economic growth is one of the great stories of the 21st Century, but there are signs that the country's boom may not be sustainable. In 2000, Ethiopia, the second-most populous country in Africa, was the third-poorest country in the world. Its annual GDP per capita was only about $620 (in 2011 dollars). More than 50% of the population lived below the global poverty line, the highest poverty rate in the world. What has happened since is miraculous. According to World Bank estimates, from 2000 to 2018, Ethiopia was the third-fastest growing country of 10 million or more people in the world, as measured by GDP per capita. It hasn't just been a matter of the rich getting richer. The prosperity has been relatively broadly shared. The country's poverty rate fell to 31% by 2015 (the latest year Ethiopia's poverty level was assessed by the World Bank). Life expectancy rose from about 52 in 2000 to 66 in 2017
PM Meles used to say Ethiopia has no worst enemy than poverty! And, he nearly succeeded in pulling the country out of its extreme poverty before his untimely death. However, since his death, the country is falling apart. No one left from the EPRDF high men were able to manage the economy and political upheavals. Today, its economy is falling apart and its prime minister is busy counting flower stands on the street of Addis not to mention his obsession with the renovation of old buildings! Abiy has neglected the much talked about industrial park development that could help in earning hard currency and is ready to sell profitable government-owned companies. He is on the verge of signing the Hedase Dam to Egypt. Dear readers, we thought Wuchale agreement was one too many! The Amhara community must demand its politicians to deny Abiy the vote of confidence so Ethiopia is saved for the future generation.
The Abiy Government's Stratagem of Rigging the Ethiopian General Election Makonnen Tesfaye; 3 February 2020 -The Abiy Ahmed Government, working hand in glove with Birtukan Mideksa, the former convicted putschist "Kinigit" leader and current Chairperson of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), have perfected the art of voter suppression, even surpassing that of the racist Jim Crow laws in the US that deterred millions of African Americans from exercising their democratic rights ...
The Fire No One is Watching. Elias Dawit Feb 2, 2020 - Foreign Policy has listed Ethiopia as the third of ten conflicts to watch in 2020. And while most observers are focusing on the volatile ethnic tensions that have alarmingly escalated in the past several years, there is little attention being paid to the creeping embolism of radical Islam. There is a popular mythos in Ethiopia that religious tolerance between Christians and Muslims has been a hallmark of its long history...
FEDERATION IS THE ONLY WAY OUT! TeKa 02/02/2020 - Do you even know that Europe is divided alongside language and ethnic groups? Tell me any country that is multilingual and has a federal arrangement that is not language-based. The EU is kind of based on a federal system that relies on this premise. Belgium has a federal system that is divided along with language groups as well.
EU and UN propping up the repressive regime in Eritrea are morally wrong. Petros Tesfagiorgis 02-01-20 - First of all I express my sadness for the kidnap of innocent Amhara students in Dembi Dolo University, Oromo region. It is a gross human rights violation and should be condemned unequivocally. Abiy Ahmed became Prime Minister of Ethiopia in April 2018 and he wasted no time to announce his agenda of peace. Soon he made peace with Eritrea.
Joint Statement of Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, the United States and the World Bank Washington, DC- The Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Water Resources of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan and their delegations met with the Secretary of the Treasury and the President of the World Bank,... Nothing in this press release assures us the agreement reached is anything but good for Ethiopia! It mentions a lot about transboundary and filling of the Dam but little of the Dam significance to poverty reduction! Worst, it talks about how to manage and that Egypt has a right to monitor and control the flow of water! In normal circumstances, we would have lobbied the parliament or the PM not to ratify this agreement if written as alleged. But Ethiopia does not have a normal government. The current government is illegitimate. If the US has any interest in maintaining peace in the Horn region it should convince Egypt to wait for any agreement after the coming Ethiopian election. If everything fails, we ask the TPLF to do something to stop this madness. The Ethiopian people deserve better.
SOUTHWEST ETHIOPIA INDIGENOUS PEOPLES MOVEMENT(SWE-IPM) SWE-IPDM 01-31-20 - In realization to the call made to all the opposition parties in the diaspora by the New Ethiopian Prime Minister in 2018, it should be reminded that the Southwestern Ethiopia Indigenous Peoples Movement (SWE-IPM) amended its original designation from peoples movement to political party called "Southwest Ethiopia Indigenous Peoples Democratic Movement" (SWE-IPDM) in order to participate in the upcoming election in Ethiopia. However, being skeptical to the reform and the Ethiopian centralized political tendency and behavior which has persisted and defied the existence of the Southwest indigenous Nilo Saharan peoples in Ethiopian society, SWE-IPDM...
The color revolutionaries are at odds with each other. George Soro, Facebook and all Birtukan pals from Uncle Sam Camp will have to choose between Jawar, Abiy and Eskinder soon! Who do you think will win? Birtukan let us see what Harvard taught you when it comes to building democratic institutions. How you handle all election issues now will be used as a yardstick to measure the nature of western democracy. Two years into the color revolution Ethiopians have been killed, raped and displaced. Yet, the West and all the enablers of Abiy can not see the flaws of western democracy in Ethiopia. Zeru Hagos Jan 31, 2020
Should Oromo Go to Election or War? Assefa A. Lemu 01-31-20 - Like any other area of life, politics also requires knowledge, wisdom, discipline, strategy, and tactic to achieve intended objectives. There are numbers of Oromo political movements that were aborted because of either lack of knowledge, or lack of wisdom, or lack of discipline, or usage of flawed strategies or faulty tactics.
River Nile dam talks extended
Talks to resolve a long-running dispute between Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan on the fate of Africa's largest hydropower project are continuing in Washington, US, a day after they were initially supposed to end. The negotiators are still deadlocked over the finer details on how the $4bn (£3bn) dam will operate, sources have told the BBC
At last, the truth is exposed. Abiy is negotiating how and who to operate the Hedase Dam! Expect Egyptian personnel managing/operating/monitoring the Dam! እኛው በኛዉ ህልም ሆነ!!
Hunger, fear and death: an Ethiopian migrant family's story TULI GULED, Ethiopia (Reuters) - First, drought in Ethiopia's Oromiya region destroyed Asha Khalif Ali's crops and animals. Then her husband and brother were killed in ethnic violence. She fled with her seven children, the youngest on her back, and watched their small faces grow gaunt with hunger as they sought safety. Ethiopia has transformed back into the future. The late PM Meles fought hard to end famine and stories like the above in Ethiopia. and he almost succeeded! Although Ethiopia faced many hurdles during Meles's EPRDF time, it managed to withstand the effects of multiple drought period and avoided the side effects of civil unrest. Today, the lords of poverty have won and Ethiopia is becoming a country where civil unrest, murder, rape, and unlawful unrest are common. How sad.
Ethiopia: Authorities crackdown on opposition supporters with mass arrests I guess Jawar and Dawud honeymoon period is coming to an end. What we do not understand is why do people forget that there is only one PM Chair In Ethiopia? Lemma, Jawar, Gedu, and Dawud must be foolish to think Abiy was going to share his chair with them once he is comfortably settled! Asafariwoch. They sold Ethiopia for this!
Ethiopian government silent as hate crimes flourish In Ethiopia, an environment of fear prevails amid ongoing religious and ethnic conflicts.Political experts and residents of the East African country told Anadolu Agency the government has remained silent amid a spate of hate crimes.Idris Yeba, a political analyst living in Turkey's capital Ankara, believes the government is busy focusing on secondary issues when its primary function should be maintaining law and order
Open Letter to President Issayas Afewerk and President Debretsion Gebremichael
Gebreselema Hailemichael 01-26-20 - I am writing this letter to appeal to you for a generational appeal. This is an appeal to you that request you to do something different that will benefit the coming and future generation. I am someone who grew up in a war zone. I have lost relatives in the war waged by both Shabia and Woyanes against the DERG. I was born into the war, I grew up ...
