Ethiopia emergency: How will crisis play out? | The Stream
There is nothing new about Jawar but for Alula to recognize political prisoners were released and for Tedros to play the Amhara card not the Ethiopian card as it is common with people from his camp is news to us! As for Tsedale and Daniel at least they are playing by the rule and functioning in the country as legal media owners and as activist regardless their political inclination. Mohammed thank you for saying it like it is!

Social media from America are stoking Ethiopia's ethnic violence The Ethiopian diaspora in the US uses social media to great effect in shaping coverage of events back home, especially the protest movement that has pummeled Ethiopia for more than two years. During that time, social media has proved itself a double-edged sword in Ethiopia: It’s capable of filling a need for more information due to limited press freedom and frequent blanket shutdowns of mobile internet, but also of pushing the country toward even greater calamity
Dr Abiy Ahmed elected Chairman of OPDO Addis Ababa, February 22, 2018 (FBC) – Central Committee of the Oromo People Democratic Organization (OPDO) has elected Dr Abiy Ahmed as Chairman of the Organization.Lemma Megerssa was elected deputy Chairman of the Organization, according to information obtained from office of the Central Committee of the Organization.
If this change was made taking in to consideration the recent PM resignation, it will ensure the constitution is respected and the next PM will be nominated/elected with out undermining the constitution least! What is left is if EPRDF will respect its own bylaw and finish the deep Tehadeso in time and hold its own congress to nominate the next PM or nominate the next PM soon before the current congress term expires!
Regardless, if the next PM nomination is done by the book by the EPRDF, Dr Abiy chances are much higher now to be the next EPRDF chairman and next PM but there is no guarantee he will be! The stakes are high for any one to become the next PM and Chairperson of the EPRDF!

Ethiopia's Next Leader Could Come From Protest-Hit Region Ethiopia's ruling party could choose the leader of the protest-hit Oromia region as its next chairman a party official said.“Once the council has decided, there will be a vacuum, and that vacuum will need to be filled immediately,” Getachew, who is also a member of the TPLF’s executive committee, said.Lemma is a member of the EPRDF Council, but isn’t a member of Ethiopia’s parliament, the House of People’s Representatives. That means the council could elect him chairman, but a new prime minister “will have to become a member of parliament,” possibly through a special by-election, Getachew said.If no constituency is available, a MP could be removed or stand down to make way, he said.
What guarantee is there the outcome of the special by-election will result in Lemma winning? This may be hoping against hope!Ethiopia shouldn't be in such quagmire!
