U.S. Ambassador Mike Note on Current Events in Ethiopia People need to be free to express themselves peacefully, and to be confident that they can do so. Lethal force to protect the safety of the public, even in the face of violent protests, must always be a last resort. At the same time, people need to demonstrate their commitment to peaceful expression and dialogue. Political engagement needs to be done constructively – through strengthening institutions rather than destroying them, and never through the destruction of property, livelihoods, and lives. When laws are broken, there need to be consequences, but accountability should come through legal mechanisms and constitutional processes.Even the US Ambassador can not understand what is happening in Ethiopia! One wonders what else Angela Merkel from Germany told the PM he is tight lip about the event! What happen to the "habesha aydenachu ferenj aydenachu" self confident adage the EPRDF government is known for when it comes respecting the rule of law?

The federal government of Ethiopia is spending billions of public money to develop the country. Beside the renaissance dam there are hundreds of large scale development works all over the country being developed hoping they will extricate the population from the abject poverty it finds itself in. In the last few years the federal government is spending millions of hard earned money - money that it has borrowed in the open market with high interest, to develop these industrial parks. These parks need peace and uninterrupted access to workers and market destination to work. It will be of unimaginable dereliction of duty on the part of the federal government to allow hooligans and extremists from the diaspora to disturb the unfettered access. The road closure to Hawassa is unacceptable! The federal government must help any weak regional government unable to police civil disturbance or take over the responsibility of keeping the peace! Ethiopia's development should not be held hostage by such forces. Democracy and development go hand in hand!If marching along the development and democratic road is not the spirit of the developmental state what is a developmental state then? What is happening in Ethiopia today is not acceptable! PM Hailemariam wake up! Zeru Hagos Feb 12, 2018

Even though the complaints are heard from north to south and east to west, not all complaints are leading to mayhem and destruction. Some are determined to exhaust the peaceful avenue! Kudos to them!
