Ethiopia passes law to start national dialogue commission amid pressure to end Tigray conflict

Ethiopian lawmakers have approved a bill to establish a commission for national dialogue, amid international pressure for negotiations to end the 13-month conflict in the Tigray region. The Federal Parliamentary Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favor on Wednesday with 287 votes for, 13 votes against and one abstention.
Few things about the above news: First, the fact that the 547 federal seat parliament is reduced to such low active members is embarrassing. Second, the parliament itself is illegal according to the current constitution. Third, if the conflict, as the Amhara elites tell us, is between Tigray and the rest of Ethiopia then any sane person let alone a parliament should know the war can only be stopped if the dialogue is between the warring parties - right? But, we know Ethiopia is not led by a sane person or does not have a sane Amhara elite. Otherwise, no sane person will think peace in Ethiopia is possible without Tigrayan involvement and the proud Oromo participation. The international community has been given ample time to take advantage of the current pullback by the Tigray Army. It will be a huge loss of opportunity if it is not exploited to bring peace. The current military posture in Northern Ethiopia will not last long. In fact, according to our source, there is enough provocation by the Amhara Fano and Abiy/Isaias leftover soldiers that easily justifies a counteroffensive by the Tigray Army. The Tigrayan political leaders are under immense pressure for ordering the halt of the successful counteroffensive that almost overrun Addis in the first place. A new counteroffensive may be a day closer.

Remembering Dr. Mikael Tessema - a unique intellectual of his time

Abrham Berhane 12-26-21 -This short article covers a brief history of Dr Mikael Tessema a Tigrayan who shaped early Ethiopian politics. Dr. Mikael was an intellectual that suffered at the hands of Italian fascists and was also home imprisoned by Haileselassie. It is too sad to see imposters and pseudo nationalist rewriting history hoping to belittle the role of shaping Ethiopia The fact is: Tigrayan elites were at the forefront of the struggle to build a peaceful and prosperous Ethiopia then as now.

Abiy praised for a ceasefire that isn't and continued fighting with the more stubborn proxies

Kalayu Abrha 12-30-21 - UN Chief and US Envoy to the Horn heard what they desperately wanted to hear: the withdrawal of TDF from the Amhara and Afar. They praised the Tigray Leadership just like a good boy and are gone for their Christmas cum New year vacations. Getachew Reda is a genius who could have been a UN chief if not a US envoy. He finds himself in the valley bottoms and mountain tops every other hour not to earn top-ups and allowances in a lucrative UN office...

Pertinent Issues on the War in Tigray

By Tsadkan Gebretensae 12-26-21 -The aims of the leadership of Tigray in the war in Ethiopia are, first, to save the people of Tigray from a genocidal onslaught including forced starvation and, second, to establish an all-inclusive government for Ethiopia as a whole. There is no intention to install a government in Addis Ababa led by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF). Instead, we want the people of Tigray to govern themselves within a multi-national federal system. Read more at:

Peace, or continued war in Ethiopia?

By Kjetil Tronvoll 12-27-21 -Ethiopia is balancing on the precipice - continued war or the beginning of peace talks? The withdrawal of the Tigrayan forces back to their home region has opened a window for political talks, but it is still unclear whether the Ethiopian government and its allies will seize this opportunity to pursue genuine peace negotiations. The alternative might be a prolonged and devastating guerrilla war that would risk driving the country to the brink of political and economic collapse.

The Nobel Peace Prize That Paved the Way for War

NAIROBI, Kenya - Secret meetings with a dictator. Clandestine troop movements. Months of quiet preparation for a war that was supposed to be swift and bloodless. New evidence shows that Ethiopia's prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, had been planning a military campaign in the northern Tigray region for months before war erupted one year ago

COVID-19 AS A WEAPON: the Ahmed Regime's Style of Genocide

Isaac M. 12-27-2021 - It is now an open-secrete that the Ethiopian, Eritrean and Amhara (EEA) allied forces and their foreign backers have used rape, starvation and a siege of the Tigray population as weapons. Despite their attempt to shift the blame to victims of their crimes, it is well-documented that they have perpetrated war crimes and crimes against humanity in Tigray and elsewhere against Tigrayans.

Amanal Petros: Chasing records in Europe with 'Tigray' on his mind

Germany's fastest marathon runner has broken record upon record. While Amanal Petros' sporting career could hardly be going any better, he finds it hard to keep his mind off a military conflict back home. While he was able to spend the holidays with his girlfriend, the rest of his family couldn't celebrate the holiday in peace this year - something that's been weighing on his mind every day. His mother and two sisters live in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, where a war is currently raging.

For how much comedy do we have to laugh before the war ends?

Kalayu Abrha 12-25-21 - In fact, I have no reason and am left with little energy inside me to laugh at a time when my people are being hunted by human hound dogs from every direction. However, I always untie my knotted nerves thanks to the stupidity of the tormentors of the people of Tigray who either lack the skills or don't mind organizing their official falsehoods in a logical and consistent manner. Making people believe falsehoods requires great skills.

A Gentle Reminder: To the Delusional Ethio-Eritrean Criminal Forces

Isaac M. 12-23-2021 - The Ethiopian, Eritrean and Amhara forces (hereafter 'Ethio-Eritrean criminal forces') have killed, maimed and sexually abused tens of thousands of Tigrayans since November 2020. They have also detained hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and kept them in concentration camps and have displayed some of them in their outrageous media as prisoners of war.

The memorandum "Ethiopia: How a State Commits Serious Human Rights Violations in Front of the World"
If the crimes committed under Abiy Ahmed are indeed war crimes, the UN Security Council could authorize the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an international arrest warrant against him. If the Ethiopian Prime Minister were to be transferred to The Hague in a timely manner, the TPLF and the OLA would no longer necessarily have to march into Addis Ababa in order to achieve their goal.

U.S Terminated AGOA Benefits to Ethiopia.

Pursuant to section 506A(a)(3) of the Trade Act, I have determined that Ethiopia, Guinea, and Mali do not meet the requirements described in section 506A(a)(1) of that Act. Accordingly, I have decided to terminate the designation of Ethiopia, Guinea, and Mali as beneficiary sub-Saharan African countries for purposes of section 506A of the Trade Act, effective January 1, 2022. ...A Proclamation to Modify the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States and for Other Purposes
The goods affected by this proclamation may be manufactured in Ethiopia but most of the factories are either Indian, Chinese and Turkish-owned companies. In other words, it is a double whammy!! Next is to declare Tigray a no-fly zone, unless the international community is ready to see another round of carnage across the Horn Region! There is a window of opportunity that can not last long if the aerial and heavy weapon bombardment continues by the Abiy and Isaias Afewroki regimes.

GSTS Position Statement on Peaceful Resolution of the War on Tigray and the Rest of Ethiopia

The Global Society of Tigray Scholars and Professionals (GSTS), representing more than 3500 Tigrayan scholars and professionals worldwide, expresses its appreciation to the Government of Tigray (GoT) and profound respect to the people of Tigray and the members of Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) for spearheading the popular struggle against the genocidal war waged on the people of Tigray. GSTS supports all peace efforts to end the genocidal war declared on Tigray by Ethiopian, Eritrean and Amhara forces, and foreign supporters of the genocide, and calls for the commencement of negotiations towards peace, normalcy and rebuilding of Tigray.

Tigray Global Chamber of Commerce (TGCC) Calls on the International Community to Condemn and Stop the Ethiopian Government's Continued and Unjustified Mass Closure of Tigrayan-Owned Businesses & the Mass Arrest of Tigrayans

TGCC (December 22, 2021) - Since November 2020, the world witnessed the genocidal war the Ethiopian government declared on the state of Tigray in northern Ethiopia, under the cover of a "law enforcement" operation. The war, waged by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government and its external allies, has been unimaginable. The intensity of destruction, mass killings, torture, systematic rape of girls and women as a means of ethnic cleansing...

U.S. concerned over Turkey's drone sales to conflict-hit Ethiopia

ISTANBUL/ADDIS ABABA, Dec 22 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities have taken issue with Turkey over its sales of armed drones to Ethiopia, where two sources familiar with the matter said there was mounting evidence the government had used the weapons against rebel fighters.A State Department spokesman said U.S. Horn of Africa envoy Jeffrey Feltman "raised reports of armed drone use in Ethiopia and the attendant risk of civilian harm" during a visit to Turkey last week.
The risk is now a tragedy with many civilians killed by the very same drones Turkey has supplied the Abiy regime. The US should sanction Turkey and enforce a no-fly zone over Tigray to save millions of civilian lives.

SJT Open Letter to: President Joseph R. Biden

SJT 12-21-21 - Security and Justice for Tigray (SJT) and the people of Tigray will always remain grateful to the United States of America for understanding the plight of the genocidal war waged by the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's despotic regime. We recognize and highly appreciate the efforts made by both the US government and congress to date to put pressure on Abiy Ahmed's government to stop the atrocious war and accept dialogue

Ethiopia: UN Commission is a Victory for the Cause of Justice and Accountability

The resolution passed by the UN Human Rights Council establishing an International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia on 17 December will go a long way towards securing justice for the victims of the genocidal war on Tigray by holding the perpetrators accountable.

SJT Open Letter to: Mr. Jeppe TRANHOLM-MIKKELSEN EU Secretary-General

SJT 12-21-21 - Your Excellency, Security and Justice for Tigray (SJT) and the people of Tigray will always remain grateful to the EU for understanding the plight of the genocidal war waged by the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's despotic regime. We recognize and highly appreciate the efforts made to date to put pressure on Abiy Ahmed's government to stop the atrocious war and accept dialogue as the only avenue to achieve peace in Ethiopia.

President Debretsion Letter to Head of States

Tigray Govt 12-19-21 - Excellency, It has been over thirteen months since the Ethiopian government in an unprecedented collaboration with foreign and domestic invading forces has waged a genocidal campaign against the people of Tigray. During this period the aggressors have committed countless atrocities including the use of hunger and sexual violence as an instrument of war.

Ethiopia crisis: Human Rights Council sets up international rights probe

Serious concerns over alleged severe human rights violations and abuses in Ethiopia should be investigated by an international rights probe, the Human Rights Council agreed in a vote on Friday. Addressing the Council, Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Nada Al-Nashif said that it was likely that more than 400,000 people in Tigray were living in famine-like conditions, since only limited relief has been allowed into the region since UN humanitarians raised the alarm in June.
This is a good start. Better late than never, regardless of what the outcome of such a probe will be. It is still mindboggling the international community is still oblivious to the serious crime of humanity committed by the Abiy and Isaias regime soldiers and followers. We honestly thought Rwanda was one too many for this generation!.

History Repeats Itself: Turkey and Tigray Genocide

Haile Kebret 12-21-21 - As they say, 'history repeats itself'. Turkey has just repeated its history by becoming one of the principal actors in the Tigray genocide that has been underway since November 2020. No previous conflicts between Tigray and Turkey, no border disputes, and no ideological factors could explain Turkey's eagerness to shed Tigrayan blood, unless it is a 100-year Turkish anniversary of the 1915-16 Armenian genocide.

Tigray Army announce plan to withdraw from neighboring Ethiopian regions

Washington Post - The spokesman for Tigrayan rebels waging war with Ethiopia's government confirmed Monday that rebel troops would be withdrawing from the neighboring regions of Afar and Amhara, where fierce fighting has displaced more than 300,000 people since July. In a two-page letter sent Sunday to U.N. Secretary General Guterres, the leader of the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, Debretsion Gebremichael, said he hoped that bringing his troops back into the Tigray region would be a "decisive opening for peace."

Ethiopia: New wave of atrocities in Western Tigray

Amhara security forces are responsible for a surge of mass detentions, killings and forced expulsions of ethnic Tigrayans in the Western Tigray territory of northern Ethiopia, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch said today. Tigrayan civilians attempting to escape the new wave of violence have been attacked and killed. Scores in detention face life-threatening conditions including torture, starvation, and denial of medical care.

Update From the War Front(12-19-21)
According to our reliable source, the recent Tigray Army realignment and repositions of forces away from Afar and Amhara areas was done to enhance the peace process. The international community is showing heightened interest to resolve the conflict peacefully and the Tigray government has decided to encourage the process by taking a unilateral steps. According to our sources the Tigray Government is willing to give peace a chance and will closely monitor the process if it materializes in to a serious discussion. As you recall Tigray government has put forward key demands for any peace process to succeed. If the international community fails to move forward the current peace process initiative then all options are open for the Tigray Army to finish the war militarily. Our source told us, every step taken militarily and diplomatically so far has one important reason that is foremost - that is, it is to protect and keep our people's safety and security. Our source told us, Tigray Army is fully intact and it is more than ever well-armed. All efforts are being exerted to build its capacity also. Tigrayans and supporters in diaspora should remain united and steady.

EUNF 12-17-21 -The Eritrean United National Front (EUNF) founding conference was held on November 18 -20, 2021 and subsequently issued a conference concluding statement which can be found here. This is an enormously good news for the Eritrean people both at home and in diaspora that struggle to bring a long overdue and badly needed change to our country. We commend each and every one who worked tirelessly to make the EUNF a reality.

Has the Pandemic Become an Excuse for Curbing Visitors from the Global South?

Prof. Mehari Taddele Maru - Restrictive policies introduced to contain the spread of Covid-19 may now be conveniently applied to contain mobility from the global south to the global north. These Covid-19-related restrictions should have been reviewed pari passu with vaccination and infection rates, and with other mechanisms employed to slow down the spread of the virus. However, in many countries, the revision of laws and policies still lags.

What do Tigrayans Expect from the UN Human Rights Council?

Isaac M. 12.16.21 - Following the request made by over 50 countries, including EU states, the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), will convene a special session on the situation in Ethiopia this Friday. What do Tigrayans expect from this Council's session? 1. They expect an explicit denunciation of the mass arrests, searches, abuses and terrorizing Tigrayans in Addis Ababa and elsewhere in Ethiopia. Why? In the last three weeks alone...

Massacres, Rape, Siege: Why Israel Must Stop Its UAE Ally Aiding Ethiopia's Atrocities
The UAE is running a huge airlift arming an Ethiopian regime committing mass atrocities in Tigray. That inhumane adventurism is a strategic problem for Israel, too

From Our Archives: Exclusive Interview with Author Memhir Gebrekidan
"(August, 2013) In an exclusive interview for Aigaforum and online readers. Tamrat Yamane sat down with Memhir Gebrekidan, the Author of the history of Atse Yohannes. Memhir Gebrekidan explained why he wrote the book and who Atse Yohannes was and how he died and more... You must listen!!!"

( Interview )

(Pls do not call the telephone number as it is not in service due to the siege of Tigray by Abiy Ahmed regime)

Note: Long before Memhir Gebrekidan became popular and became an idol for millions of Tigrayans, Aigaforum was fortunate to see how Memhir was a very important person to teach the young generation about Tigrayan history. Memhir wrote a very telling book during the Ethio-Eritrea(the Year 1998) war about how Menlik sold Eritrea and sow the seed for the future war that the country was fighting. Aigaforum carried the book despite the uneasiness of the then political leaders about publicizing such a book! May his Soul Rest in Peace!
