DW TV: With Obbo Bete Orgessa, OLF Political Organization Head Officer - Dec 2019

Part II

The OLF may have been branded as a terrorist organization before. To be honest TPLF/EPRDF made a big mistake when it put all its eggs in one basket by choosing OPDO to represent the Oromo people. The schism that developed between EPRDF and OLF should have been handled differently. Today OLF is looking more relevant and matured than the OPDO/ODP. It is sad the Oromo people are not represented by Obbo Bete today. Can you compare Abiy and Bete's political knowledge and discipline? TPLF has called for a public meeting to last two days to discuss current political developments. It is expected the organization will announce its stand on many issues after the consultation. We hope one of the decisions is to work full-heartedly with the OLF and even with democratic Amhara elites to defeat the Derge incarnation holding power in Addis now.

If Baitona is a Tigray nationalist party, blessed be it!
Yohannes Aberra, PhD 12-30-19 - I read Baitona's reaction to some unnecessarily provocative statement made by what Baitona suspected to be a significant personality. Before I go any further on the subject at hand I would like to say a few words about writing anonymously. Anyone is entitled to write with a pen name...

SOME SOLUTIONS TO THE AFRICA'S REFUGEE MOVEMENTS
Yohannes Gebresellasie (Ph.d) Addis Ababa 12-30-19 - Some of the options that help stop or at least decreased the refugees' movements in Africa are Voluntary Repatriation, Organized Settlement in first counters of asylum and Re-settlement in second country of asylum.

Ethiopian Airlines, Boeing partner to help those in need
Ethiopian Airlines and Boeing are partnering to deliver much-needed aid supplies to organizations across Ethiopia. The airline took delivery of a new 787 Dreamliner from North Charleston, South Carolina in December and loaded the jet with 34,000 pounds of books and 5,800 pounds of school supplies, clothing and medical supplies for the flight home to Addis Ababa.

(Mekelle)12-28-19- Concluding Statement from the Tigrai people conference held in Mekelle to discuss current political issues in Tigrai and Ethiopia at large.
Key takeaways from the resolution of the conference participants.

  • Strategies to nullify Abiy's agenda of subduing Tigrai
Berhane Kahsay 12-28-19 - Ethiopia's current trajectory is worrisome and appears to be entering unchartered territories that could tip it to Yugoslavia type political upheavals which culminated in the complete break-up of the East European Country. In January 1992, the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia ceased to exist having fractured into various independent states, and according to International Centre for Transitional Justice, the destructive war that spanned from 1991 until 1995 consumed the lives of 140,000 people.

TDA has to embark on development in an all-encompassing and true sense of the term.
Haile Tessema, Dec. 26, 2019 - I Wanted to write this opinion piece last week, but not to be a "party pooper", held it off till the closing of the TDA telethon. Let me start with my appreciation of TDA chairperson Mr. Taddesse Yemane and his team for their dedicated effort in bringing TDA back to the surface, and making it fairly relevant. Indeed, we have yet to see someone, who is not an elected or public service official, working as hard as Mr. Taddesse has in tackling a social problem on top of a demanding fulltime job.

    Collaborative Path to Enlightenment
Aesop 26/12/19 - The current public-intellectual discourse on Tigrai's interest reminded me of Sowell's "Intellectual & Society"- just the title (I didn't enjoy the content). The relation between intellectuals and society is very interesting. Intellectuals change society by creating and transmitting knowledge. Think of Hamurabi's laws, Euclid's Geometry, ...

Seven Eritrea players disappear after football tournament in Uganda
(ESPN) - A Ugandan official has said seven Eritrean football players have disappeared at the end of a regional tournament.Rogers Mulindwa, a spokesman for a body that organised the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, said Tuesday that a police search for the players continues.
When will Eritreans live in peace in their country? They fought for a thirty-year independence war and they have been waiting for nearly 30 years by now to have freedom and a normal country. Abiy make no mistake, you are dining and wining with Isaias Afeworki at the expense of Eritreans. !

    What a Shame!
Leave aside where the logo came from and just imagine what the Amhara politicians like BuaYalew and Demeke see anything useful in this new logo. Do you see the tri-color(red green and yellow) that has become a symbolic flag to the Amhara elites in this logo? Do you see the Ethiopian people face in the three characters to symbolize the individual Ethiopian or the Amhara people? Do you see the rough hands of the more than 80 million farmers displayed? Those hands look more like the hands of a rich metro lady! And why did PP choose their logo to originate from Christian organizations? Aren't Mustefe and the Afar lady a Muslim to say the least? አይ ኢትዮጵያ ይኸው ሆነ እጣ ፈንታሽ?(Zeru Hagos Dec 2019)

Six Things to Know about Ethiopia's New Program
The government's investment in infrastructure and education has laid a good foundation for the transition to private sector-led growth. To generate returns from past investments, reforms are needed.
If memory serves us all, The IMF and World Bank were not generous in their support when EPRDF was building the infrastructure of the country that they now appreciate and want to build on. They opposed most of the Hydro dams and roads built because they thought such investment was a bad investment in a poor country like Ethiopia! There is no homegrown economics today! The IMF is simply lying. The IMF and the Arabs are in control. May the almighty God save Ethiopia!

The Fickleness of Obbo Lemma Megersa
Assefa A. Lemu 12-24-19 - Obbo Lemma Megersa is one of the successful OPDO/EPRDF cadres. He started his service as an ordinary cadre and reached the point of being the President of the most populous and largest State of Ethiopia and then the Minister of Defense. His contribution to the current political change which took place in early 2018 in Ethiopia is also exaggerated by his supporters.

Lost City Discovered Beneath Ethiopia Was Once a Pillar of The Legendary Aksum Empire
Excavations in Ethiopia have uncovered a lost city from one of the least documented major civilisations of the ancient world. Back in its heyday, from 1st to 8th century AD, the African kingdom of Aksum was a force to be reckoned with. Sitting along the northern edge of the Red Sea and encompassing Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Somaliland, this flourishing and complex society played a major role in trade between the Roman Empire and ancient India.

Ethiopia's prime minister wants to change the ruling coalition. Who's getting left out?
In November, Abiy proposed merging the four-party Ethiopian People's Revolution Democratic Front (EPRDF) into one party,...But EPRDF founders - leaders from the Tigray People's Liberation Front - and other ethno-nationalist politicians strongly oppose the new PP.
If a free and fair election is to be held today or next May, regardless of the outcome Abiy would be remembered positively. But if what we read and hear is true, the coming election will be neither free nor fair. Abiy himself is quoted to have said he will win the next election by cheating! It is also a forgone conclusion the Federalists, not the Unitary forces(PP) will have a majority. It is simple math. Westerners may adore and pump Abiy but Abiy is already unpopular in Oromia, Amhara, Tigrai, Sidama and Wolayita not to mention the many other areas in Ethiopia! Abiy's support currently is from the Amhara political groups. That support will eventually evaporate when the issue of Addis Ababa is raised again. Ethiopia can only be saved by Federalist forces. Westerners will help themselves to support a free and fair election on time. Short of that Europe and America should be prepared for a flood of refugees. The country will not be stable without a fair and free election!

Saudi Fund for Development Partnership with International Aid Agencies to Boost Economic Development in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 23 December 2019, (AETOSWire): Within the presence of the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, a delegation from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) signed two loan agreements worth $140 million with the Ethiopian Government to boost economic development, create vital infrastructure and tackle water poverty in the country. The first loan was made in partnership with other international agencies including the World Bank, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and UNICEF
Is the new road project in the Amhara region, supported by Saudi money, connecting the city of Motta that recently saw the burning of Mosques and shops owned by Moslems? If true, then there is something fishy about the recent trouble there!

Chinese Business Delegation blocked in Addis Ababa
(Aigaforum) Addis Ababa Dec 21, 2019 - The Abiy Ahmed government has continued its destabilizing act against the regional government of Tigray. With the knowledge of the Ethiopian Embassy in China, the Foreign Ministry in Ethiopia and the Business and Investment Bureau of the Tigray regional government a working rapport was established with Chinese Business delegation from Shanxi province of China. The delegation was headed by the Deputy Governor of Shanxi province of China.
